Some copies of The Raven: Legacy of a Master Thief Digital Deluxe Edition have been revoked. Since quite a bit of them made their way to SG, thought it was best to warn: if you won one of those and it was revoked, it might be wise to uncheck the received mark for now, if one of your winners won it but it shows an unactivated, it might be because it has been revoked and they didn't unmark it yet, not necessary that they broke the rules.
It seems the games were purchased from some traders. I don't know excatly where from. You probably weren't affected in any way. Most of people are unaffected. There is a reason I started with "some copies" and not a "multitude of copies". No apocalypse is coming, you can stop the panic -.-

Ouch i am sure many won't just be able to afford new copies (not the cheapest), unless they accept the not marked received. For him it's alot eitherway.

Well, it is clearly an evil plot devised by the mischievious Fnord to have all of us banned from SG for not activating our copies of "The Raven", so he can be the only user left, and thus win all the giveaways!

Alas, none of us will be here to witness his evil grin slowly turning into an expression of utter discomfort the very moment he realises he cannot enter the only giveaways this website will be able to offer - his own.

Yeah, we need some context that explains WHY they were revoked, and we need to know what place they were purchased from. In other words, are these purchases direct from Steam, from Humble, from somewhere else? When were these purchases made, just recently, or from long ago? Give us the FULL story and not just random anecdotes.

As you know Steam doesn't provide more info than this, were the keys are coming from seems to be traders..

I get it now, these were giveaways that had been purchased from traders. Well, unless you can verify where these "traders" got them from, that would explain things. Probably stolen/fraud/g2a or some such.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

I don't know the full story. This is not some kind of news report. This is just to remind the winners to unmark as received and to inform the giveaway creators that they might get a fake unactivated when checking their winners (and to don't bl/kick them out of group/report to support/etc).

Several months ago there were some copies on plati.ru dirty cheap, buck or so (I was considering getting it.. I think that same seller had also uber cheap moto 14 ), iirc they were also something like that on g2a in the same period (less, they sell much faster than plati).. if something is too good to be true, usually it is ^^

Plati.ru is not even a store, its a market, almost anybody can sell stuff there. There is some official resellers, some "official like" resellers (those who ordered 200 dvd-boxes of some game from publisher, for example), and others, bundle guys, alienware/promo/free keys guys and those who obiously tries to scam you (these are getting banned quite fast)

If it helps, imagine Agathe Christie somehow mixed with the Italian Job (and maybe a little Lupine as well). It has very distinct chapters that may be a little unbalancing, but about as much as the different stages in Broken Sword 1. (Also, the game is a gamble a bit, since it can have game-breaking glitches. So… be a little cautious.)

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

That does help, one of the reasons I bought the game was because it reminded me of Murder on the Orient Express and really liked the art. The game-breaking glitches are a concern but hopefully won't have to deal with them.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

Oh, the first chapter is a HUGE homage to that book (and the original movie). It's not a rip-off, as the plot is entirely different, but the entire atmosphere is recreated so perfectly, it got me within the first few minutes.

I would need more facts before I decide on how I feel about this.

Now if said game purchases were actually fraudulent (stolen credit card, chargeback), then I'm ok with them revoking it.

On the other hand, if the ONLY reason they were revoked was because someone re-sold the product, then I would be really upset.
Because, the publisher still has the money they made from the inital purchase, unlike if it was a stolen creditcard or chargeback in which their money would be withdrawn.

People, you have the right to do whatever you want to do with something after you buy it. (and in video game lingo, you bought the rights to a single transferable lifetime license, not the game code, so no copying from you!).

Permalink

Single non-transferable license…

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

Its like a car or house, it is transferable. (or even book/music cd/movie dvd/etc.)

Just steam/gog/uplay/origin/etc, have no implementation of how to xfer digital ownership.
Maybe after a huge legal loss on their part, will they be forced to enable such a feature.

Go out, buy a playstation2 game. (you get a ownership of a license [not the rights to the actual code/ip], that just happens to be in physical form).

Comment has been collapsed.

Actually the European Court of Law has already decided that Steam has to allow reselling used games from your Libary. Valve apparently just doesn't give a shit about it.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

It's non-transferable by contract. Yes, any product can be sold in theory, but legally, these are not. So by accepting the contract at buying the product, you accept the legal confine of not being able to transfer the license to anyone else.
It would be interesting if they made a system where you can transfer the license key from your account to another one. It is possible in a system, if they code it. I doubt they will ever do it. Them or any other similar service.
Although, to add something to the latter, I'm surprised Sony didn't switch to mandatory online activation by codes even with disc-based products.

Permalink

The thing is that many of those "contracts" are not valid, at least in many countries. A contract can't go against the law.

True. Would love to see Valve Luxembourg enforced to implement a pre-owned market. I have a few games on Steam I would sell as I would probably won't replay them again (or have them on GOG anyway).
