Bought myself a new watch - Garmin Fēnix 7X Sapphire Solar - "only" a 1000 euros. Am I crazy? I mean 1000 euros just for a watch? Yeah, having it gives me better intel on my day, sports etc. I also bought this to finally make use of my bike over the winter.

P.S. Previously had Garmin Vivoactive 4 which I will give to my sister who is using my old Vivoactive 3 now :)

You're not crazy. Congrats on the new fancy gadget :)

Personally, I wouldn't spend that much on a watch.

If it is something that gives you joy or improves your life and YOU feel like it was worth it, then I think it was.
It's very subjective. It does sound like a lot of money, but like someone else said, people spend money on their hobbies all the time. So that shouldn't matter. If you are still able to live a good life (have food and such) I don't see a problem.

I hope you can enjoy it for a very long time!

It depends.
Was it worth it for You? I mean, I would like to buy a Huawei Band 4 Pro as it would be much more comfortable to run with instead of gripping my P30 Pro in my hand, and it would show more data of interest. But I would never purchase a smartwatch for 1000 euros. xD Its just me though, findng it too costly for my needs. Your needs and/or wants are clearly different, but there is nothing wrong with that. Let me put it this way:
Am I crazy for buying a Canon M50 for approx 421 euros? I recently did just that. Many around me would call it a waste of money as I am not a professional photographer, just a hobbyist. I likely wont make any money out of this "investment", on the contrary, I am continously spending more for lens and other accessories. But this was my dream-machine for a few years now.
Finally being able to afford and unbox it felt amazingly good and while I still have a long way ahead of me, learning the ropes, I wont regret this. This is important to me. A hobby that I wanted to elevate to the next level. And I know I made the right choice. Everyone can think of it whatever they want. I wont care much. I have too much fun exploring new possibilities with the new gear. :)
Not to mention how many spends unholy amounts on booze and cigs to temporarily satisfy their unhealthy addictions. Compared to that, your watch and my photomachine are really innocent choices!

Obviously not crazy, your money, your decision what to spend it on, but personally I would never ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

My judgement would depend on your income.
If it is half your monthly income yes you are a little. I say a little, because if it covers your needs, there are no alternatives and you are going to keep it for some years, it is a good choice.
If is less than half of your monthly income, you are normal. You saw something, you want it, you can probably afford it.
If it is more than your monthly income (i find it unlikely since you play golf), it was a bad choice.
But hey, this is my reasoning. I buy things as well when I want them. I work for them darn it.
I have every right in the world. ( This is my reasoning for the Steam Deck :D ).

i usually buy things i like from my extra (kinda savings) money not from monthly income. every month when i get paid, i send the leftover money from previous month to other bank account for safe keeping and operate next month with only what i got paid. that way i can see if i can get something i want or i need to wait

Yes, that sounds exactly how I also do it! :D
I still try to apply this rule of thumb in my needs though. It makes me avoid purchases I would do just for the heck of it.

As expensive watches go, it's on the less crazy side of things. Can never understand people dropping hundreds/thousands on a vanity watch that just tells the time. But I can understand a gadget watch like that and looks nice too.

Personally not a watch guy but would love one that made phone calls like some secret agent. In fact that's all I want from a watch, doesn't even need to tell the time.

If your money, you have to do what you want.

I use a watch also. Most people around me just use the phone. But I really like the feeling of having my own watch.

i believe that if you need a tool to solve tasks you need to acquire it
and if you need confort and you can afford it i don't see why you shouldn't

at least you didn't spend 2000€ on a toaster gaming pc

If your crazy, I am a well. Enjoy the watch, It looks good.

I have not worn a watch in many years. I have my iphone, I'm always near a computer in my work so never really had the need. Or so I thought.

We decided to look into the apple watch fall detection stuff for my dad as he is getting a bit unstable walking around. We also wanted him to be able to call someone if he had forgotten his phone as he often does. We decided to get them about a month before the 7 came out so we waited for the new 7 to order. Both my parents and I all got new watches. This is my first smartwatch. We all splurged and got stainless steel. This is by far the most I've ever paid for a watch but I love it. I find myself using it more then I figured I would. Its not a phone replacement but it sure is nice to have the apps handy for small quick things. Kinda nice to start my car from wherever I am instead of going back to my office to get my phone (it was very cold last week). I like seeing my important notifications on the watch. All others just goto the phone.

I wear bone conducting Aftershokz headphones all the time at work to the point I forget I have them on. I"ve taken a few phone calls via the watch when I left my phone behind in my office while out in the rest of the building. It just rang on my headphone and I picked up and was talking before I realized I never had my phone with me. Pretty nice.

Enjoy your new watch. We are both crazy, but that's OK.

Asking the internet if you are crazy? I think by definition that would be a yes...
Seriously though, no and I hope you get great use out of it :)

For a fitness tracker, I've been thinking of getting the Whoop strap. Not sure if it's a better alternative, but it ticks off all the needs you listed.
