Recently I rapidly get friend requests from mostly Lvl 2 private profiles. I don't know any of them (they also have generic names and pictures)
Why is this happening, and what should I do?

Edit: I normally block them immediately, but they keep coming.
Will remove some of my groups and hope they stop.

Probably is for the best just ignore them for now, if someone write to you for explane who he is or if in the future you see the accounts level up and/or become less shady you can accept the request -maybe.

I've also been getting a bunch of those, nothing new, they're just bots trying to scam you. They used to be way more common a couple of years ago and then valve implemented the restrictions on trading and their numbers dwindled, I guess the scammers are giving another shot at it, just block them and ignore them untill they go away.

Is your inventory looking "tasty"? Or maybe you are big time trader, any indication that you might be worth trying a scam makes them come like flies.
Just keep bouncing any suspicious account and leave any questionable group that could atract them, there's no way to permanently get rid of them.

Yesterday I was getting 1 every 2 minutes. I blocked around 50-60 in one day. As someone else suggested I left all the shitty groups I was in on Steam, I will see if it will help.

That sounds annoying as f*ck, leaving any shady group does look like a good idea.

Just ignore/remove them. Phishing and scamming comes to mind.

I usually ignore all friend requests, except if I met that person already (e.g. having had a good time with someone in Rocket League), it's someone I know personally, or it's someone from SG (winner, GA creator etc.). No need for anyone else to acquaint, really.

jshackles (the dude behind SteamIdleMaster and Enhanced Steam) did a program to auto reject those invite. I don't use it, but could be useful to some people.

I got one myself a couple of weeks ago. It was also a level 2 private profile. I ignored it at first, but then I blocked it.

Reporting each profile by clicking a few times will help if everyone does the same.

Getting this a bit myself. Started about a month ago. I do chase free keys so it is probably the groups I have joined. Could also be my public inventory is fat with cards just waiting for the next lot of holiday cards to start dropping (when i can craft them). If you report them what reason would you put? Have never reported anyone on steam before, never needed to. Just block these ones but am finding they seem to reappear after a few weeks. (how is that possible when I blocked them?)

Just block them immediately and they are most probably coming from your groups.

Never happens to me, apparently I'm not at all popular (my 96 blacklists will attest to this).

Last night, I saw that Steam Inventory Helper for Chrome has this neat feature.
I was tempted to use it, but was too busy playing Factorio.
