Emailed gifts not received by winners

I had a few gift copies of RPG Maker VX Ace to share. Obviously, I don't have random Steam users in my friends list, so either I have to wait for the winners to accept a friend request, or send it to their e-mail. Except after my last post, I got in touch with one of the winners after all, and the gift was nowhere in their email. They both used hotmail accounts, so that might have been why... still, I would like to know why this happened.

From your post, I assume that you mean you have gift copies in your inventory from back when we could buy and store games to gift later?

I had the same issue with some of my early giveaways, when I tried to give away some leftover gifts in my inventory. I recall at least one user receiving it via email, but most of them said they didn't get it. I imagine that Steam might have issues delivering the gift emails (and likely has no motivation to fix it), given that the whole inventory gift thing is no longer supported. Easiest solution would be to send them a friend request (and maybe notify them of it on here so they know it's you), then gift them the game via Steam directly.

As long as you didn't get a notification yet that your emailed gift was received, there's no need to worry that the wrong person got it, either.

Yeah, that's what I'll (try) to do. Unfortunately, one of the winners has yet to accept my friend request. Do you know a way to contact them directly through here?

If they ever made a giveway themselves you could send them a message on that, if they never made a giveaway the only way is to reply to a message they send either on a giveaway or on the discussions.

What maruten said. Also, my advice if you decide to comment on one of their giveaways would be to pick a GA that's a bit older, to make it less likely that someone else sees it. Either way, when adding them as a friend, double check whether it's really them. (Especially if, for whatever reason, they send you a friend request.)

I once had the experience where I agreed to trade with someone, and got a friend request from an account that looked almost identical: Same profile picture, name, description, background... But of course, there's things like Steam level and games that aren't as easily copied, which gave it away.

^^^ never use your main email here that is linked to your steam account. people will try to steal your steam account with it.

could be a 2nd less used email account.
im gonna say this again NEVER USE the same email you use for your steam account on steam gifts
this lets people know what email they need to hack to get your account
