I assume there's a reason this isn't a thing already, but since I've mainly been entering giveaways for games on my wishlist lately, I started wondering why there isn't an option to set the "who can enter" to only people who have the game on their wishlist. It would increase the likelihood of the game going to someone who actually wants to play it rather than someone just entering every giveaway they can, which is a big deal to many gifters, considering the groups like Playing Appreciated that have been created.

I assumed that like invite only giveaways, the general public would not be able to see what the game is, therefore they would have to add a bunch of games to their wishlist and hope for the best.

Clever. But could also check the date that the game was added to the wishlist.

I mean, if there's a way to do it, SG could -at least- only show the giveaway to people who had the game wishlisted before the GA started.

People are lazy. :P Not everyone would go around adding a bunch of games to their wishlist.

There are scripts for it.

If you don't know it yet, SGTools provides a wishlist criterion, additionally one to set a limit for the amount of wishlisted games.
Not saying it wouldn't be a great addition to SG itself.

Thanks, I don't actually use SGTools much myself though. I'm still fairly new to SG. I was just wondering why it isn't a feature really.

As Myrsan said, there's already an option to do on sgtools. But, if you're creating a giveaway and start thinking about how many rules you should implement to it, then just please give it to a friend of yours, since it's much simpler this way. And anyway, don't think that people can't trick this wishlist rule. There are people that practically wishlist everything.

Oh, I know. I have a few friends who have very, very long wishlists. Like anything else, it would hopefully decrease the amount of leechers or people who don't want to play the game. Other methods gifters use for things, such as increasing the level minimum, SGtools, etc., they aren't perfect either.

sgtools also lets you check the size of a users wishlist.

If you add such a feature, people will be encouraged to go around adding almost everything to their wishlist, deflating the value of current giveaways demanding wishlists on various forum events and SGT checks. This would also destroy the point of having a wishlist in the first place as it'll just be a chore to add games to it in order to occasionally access bonus giveaways. And people could easily use scripts to add thousands of games automatically.

"This would also destroy the point of having a wishlist in the first place as it'll just be a chore to add games to it in order to occasionally access bonus giveaways" I don't quite understand what you mean here, but fair enough about the script thing. I forgot about scripts.

The point is that every user would have a very strong reason to start adding games they don't actually care that much about to their wishlists because it will allow them to enter more future giveaways for that game. Since adding games to wishlist costs nothing (except time, which can be bypassed with scripts) everyone will have to do it in order to increase their chances. Most people will always want to maximize their own returns. In the end, it leaves a random amount of people behind, and since all the games will have lots of people wishlisting them for no specific reason, the odds will end up being almost just as bad as any ordinary giveaway.

This could be implimented by only taking the first 100 (or any other arbitrary amount of) games into consideration when checking for eligible giveaways.
