So, this is a newer one, maybe not a lot of people know about it, and I am not sure if this counts as a fact, but here it goes:

So in my country of origin (Venezuela), we have our own kind of chinese food, which is different from traditioanl chinese cuisine. We have our own way of making chinese rice and chicken. The thing is, since dictatorial goverment and emigration, there is a lot of venezuelans living in other countries craving for what a lot fo us thought it was the traditional chinese cuisine. So now there are places where I live now (Argentina) that are chinese restaurants, but "venezuelan chinese" and not "traditional chinese", which is very odd but fun :)

Anyways, I thought I would make it more interesting by telling a fun fact that I have witness instead of just googling and posting.

Hello, I'm italian and I really like food and me and my girlfriend try to cook something new everyday (we're opening a blog for our recipes.
The interesting fact I want to share is that last year I met a foreign who didn't knew that spaghetti is a kind of pasta, when I told him so it blew his mind, I have no idea if it's common knowledge elsewhere but the fact that some people don't know that blew my mind as well.

My wife got sourdough starter from her cousin.
She obtained it by "capturing" the yeast from her yard. You can capture your own yeast from nature.
I never knew that but wow is it yummy!

A package of shredded cheese contains up to 10% of cellulose (wood pulp) so that the pieces don't clump. That's why it's always better price/health wise to grate your own cheese block.

Did you know that the concept of fortune cookies, often associated with Chinese cuisine in the United States, is not actually of Chinese origin? Fortune cookies were likely invented in California in the early 20th century and are more closely tied to Japanese immigrants. They gained popularity in Chinese-American restaurants and eventually became a staple in Americanized Chinese cuisine. In China, fortune cookies are relatively unknown, and you're unlikely to find them in traditional Chinese restaurants.

This is our (Moldova) traditional food:

Regional specialties include brânză (a brined cheese) and friptură (a lamb or goat stew). Local wines accompany most meals. Traditional Moldovan dishes combine diverse vegetables, such as tomatoes, bell peppers, aubergine, cabbage, beans, onions, garlic, and leeks.

While flying, you may have noticed that some flavors don’t taste the same as they do when you’re on the ground. That’s because altitude changes your body chemistry and decreases your taste sensitivity.
