Hi

I have a decent PC but unfortunately an old laptop that i take away with me and i'm not likely to upgrade it anytime soon.

Can you recommend me quality games that would run on the old laptop (preferably in Steam sale)

Spec:

Intel Core i5-2520M @ 2.50GHz
8GB RAM
Graphics is Intel HD 3000 (what let's it down)
Windows 7 Pro

Appreciate any game recommendations, currently thinking Ghost Master @ £0.29, Plight of the Zombie @ £0.99 and maybe Age of Empires Legacy Bundle @ £6.37

Cheers All

If you didn't pay it yet, Half Life 2 and the 2 episodes. Classic that is still amazing.

wut, that's not too old
just 3 years ago I had to play Half-Life 1 at medium settings on my laptop (totally worth it though)

random from my library:
AoEII, Medieval 2 Total War, Fallout 3, Fallout New Vegas, Portal, This War of Mine, Super Motherload, Left 4 Dead 2, Magicka Wizard Wars (F2P), Mount & Blade, Kingdom Rush, Star Ruler (maybe?), Sunless Sea

Have you played Dust: An Elysian Tail? Its pretty good 2D platformer.

Hotline Miami is pretty great. Age of Empires 2 should run on pretty much anything, and really so should most "classics", like Max Payne or Hitman 2 or Gothic 2. Shadow of Chernobyl is also great and is a very light game.

Other than older games, you always have indies, most of them don't require much of a PC to run, so just check the indie page on steam.

What sort of games are you into? Will you have a controller?

Mentioning new things: Rocket League (might not max out but you should be able to run it no issue), Binding of Isaac Rebirth, Plague Inc is a fun strategy game.

Just bought Rocket League in the sale. You really think that will work, even on low settings......only one way to tell i guess, cheers

I imagine it will. A friend of mine has run it on an older laptop with minimal issues. I think he had the minimum settings, but his specs were well below yours. Hope you enjoy it!

Zork.
But yeah, age of empires 1/2 should run well, as well as age of empires 2 star wars edition (Star wars galactic battlegrounds)
dooms, duke nukems and wolfensteins should too (not the new ones though) As well as the jedi knight stuff.
the kotors should work as well. if you like the style of game robin hood the legend of sherwood is pretty much guaranteed to work.
rise of nations should work too, as should age of mythology, total annihilation probably as well.
vice city will prolly work too, as will battlefront I & II (the only true battlefronts), the bfme series might as well work too.
I suppose most if not all indie 2D stuff will work fine as well. Rogue Legacy, Crypt of the Necrodancer and Limbo come to mind.
I'll add more as I think of them, can't really focus right now :)

LYNE
Banner Saga
Party Hard
Bastion

If you consider Age of Empires, take a look on Cossacks series too;)
You can try XCOM: Enemy Unknown , may be running on Intel graphics. There is DEMO in steam, so test it)
And my first association with "old PC" will be - Heroes® of Might & Magic® III :)))

Had a laptop with Intel HD 2000, here are some games I can recommend:

  • Dead Space series for horror, all parts should run fine. The 3rd part is only available on Origin though.
  • Older Need for Speed games for racing. My favourite one is the original Need for Speed Most Wanted from 2005.
  • Mount & Blade: Warband if you're looking for a medieval fighting / strategy game. Other M&B games are quite similar, but this one has the most content and even online multiplayer. Will run just fine on your laptop.
  • I found the original Far Cry (first part) pretty fun. It looks great for a game so old and should run on ultra. Note that Steam version is unplayable. Enemies see you no matter where you are and shoot through walls. The bug is not present in CD version, so if you really want the game, look for a physical copy.
  • Nuclear Throne, Crawl and The Binding of Isaac are all great top-down shooters / rogue likes. I absolutely love them and the system requirements are really low for each one. The first two have local co-op, Binding of Isaac Rebirth has local and online co-op, I believe (only played the original one, so not sure).
  • Terraria for 2D sandbox game. Focuses on mining, crafting and slaying monsters.
  • Risk of Rain is quite similar to Terraria, except there's no mining and no crafting. Rogue like, local and online co-op.
  • Left 4 Dead 2 and Contagion if you want to slay some monsters. Online co-op.
  • Project Zomboid for top-down co-op survival. Another game with zombies (pretty obvious). Played it for a couple of hours on friend's PC and can easily recommend it. Will definitely work for you.
  • Don't Starve / Don't Starve Together seems to be fun, can't guarantee that it will run properly though. Similar to Zomboid, thinking of buying it now.
  • Loadout was a very promising free to play game without any pay to win aspects. I was a beta tester for it myself. You make your own guns to fight in 4v4 multiplayer shooter. There are 5 game modes, not counting "ranked" which is never available due to lack of people playing it. Co-op is also available, but it's the same as multiplayer except with bots on enemy team. The PC developers lost their jobs, thanks to the publisher deciding to switch focus to Playstation port of the game. That turned out to be a bad decision and now neither of the versions receives updates.
  • Team Fortress 2 is a lot like Loadout, except the weapons can't be crafted and it still receives updates.
  • Older Grand Theft Auto parts. Vice City is my favourite, the second being San Andreas. GTA 3 will run as well.

I just got this game, Toy Soldiers and its super fun so far. It has 3D graphics and looks kind of good looking but it runs on my laptop just fine and I think our specs are kind of similar.

I already tried it on Intel HD 2000 and it run smoothly 25 - 30 FPS. My setting all low except vsync - On and Antialiasing - On.

As I thought. "smoothly" not equals 25-30fps) And all low settings(
I guess for low pc optimal games are pointnclick, turnbased RPG/Strategies, indie games, puzzles)

Ah that's a shame, i think you were right. It will run fine but not smoothly. Something like Battleblock Theater or Castle Crasher will run smoothly on his laptop.
