I'm sure the nickname would stick even when you removed someone from your friends list but apparently the nicknames I have used have vanished from people who are not in my friends list...

I have an option on the Steam profile page now to add a nickname; I believe I used to do it directly from my friends list... The popups look exactly the same.

So yeah, anyone knows what that is all about?
And is the current "Add a persistent nickname to this player to keep track of who they are." a persistent Steam feature or maybe something added by Enhanced Steam?

Within the Steam client at least, I think it's related to your friends list. I.e. you can add a nickname directly from your friends list, or the profile page of someone on your friends list. For people I'm not friends with, I can go to their profile page, but there is no option to give them a nickname.

I just gave you a nickname - don't worry, it's not a bad one :D
In the client friends list I can add nicknames, and I'm quite sure that's how I have always done it; given nicknames to people on my friends list, and I'm also quite sure they remained on the profile after I removed people from my friends list...

Hmph, I have another complaint!

I used to be able to ninja-add people to my friends list, invite them to my group and remove then remove them from my friends list again before they had a chance to accept or decline... now I can't invite to group before they accept the friends request...

What is going on!? Is my memory that bad or have these things actually changed?

they fixed that so people don't annoy others with their useless groups.

That was some nice exploit lol. I remember when you could just invite ppl to groups without friending them. It was changed to avoid invite spam (I didn't mind though, but the trend is to avoid all disturbances at all cost, even if the cost is a completely locked down "Internet"). Obviously it wasn't meant to still allow inviting pending friends to groups 🙃

About the nicknames, yeah it sucks that you can only add those to friends (or blocked ppl). But I guess they do that to avoid having to deal with hundreds of millions of pretty much unused nicknames ^^ So even though I miss that feature, I can understand their choice there 👀

Edit: lol did you just ninja-invite me? :D :D

The group invite never reached you though, did it...?
Which means I need to wait for friend requests to be accepted before I invite to the group... oh well.

Nope, I just saw a notification that was categorized as an invite, but when I clicked to go to my invites page it was already gone ^^ I assume that was the friend request, that you withdrew right before I checked it

Yeah from the group history I can see that the invite didn't go through even if I got a confirmation that it was sent.
Randomly adding people to the group now requires patience and work over time :(

Oh, that's why I've had so much peace from those terrible CS:GO gambling groups.
