Just noticed a deal (here) for extra $25 Humble store credit if pay up-front for 12 months subscription, and can pause any time to skip a month & extends when subscription expires. Also, your friend gets $15 credit for referring you. Wondering if this is a good deal, based on everyone's experience?

Is the Humble Bundle Subscription $132 for 12 months + $25 credit a Good Deal?

I'd pretty much say it is a very good deal. Also, you can find people that'll pay you for a subscription if you don't have anyone to refer yourself from. :)

Yeah, this comment is a bad idea. Asking to be added on Steam for the purpose of information is fine, but arranging a transaction is moving into the realm of Trading. The SG forum is not to be used for trading. Consider yourself warned.

That is a good deal, IF you think you were ever want to spend $25 at the Humble Strore.
Store Credit is not good for any bundles. Just games solely from the Store. So keep that in mind if your a sales watcher.

The total monthly cost comes to $8.92. That is a steal for a years worth of games. 8x12= 96 Games. Assuming there are at least 8 retails games per montlh bundle...

Imoho, Humble Monthly is a great deal, even without the bonus store credit and extras.
If they would let me renew with this bonus, I would. :)

Pretty sure they do let you renew with the bonus - you'd pay now, and it would just add a year on to your current subscription (so may not want to do it if you've got several months or more to go).

Does it not say this time that previous buyers are ineligible?

I know when I took the 10$ offer last year and two weeks later they offered 20$, I was not able to tack on another year for the extra wallet credit -- and ever since then, the 20$ offers always specified "Not if you already took one in the past".

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

In current offer they don't mention previous buyers, so maybe it will work even for those, who got bonus credit before (like 10$ or 20$ offers).

Current offer:

Limited time offer, available for upgrading and new customers for June only. Promotion ends May 11 at 11:59 p.m. Pacific time. $25 USD wallet credit granted after annual plan purchase. Wallet credit is only available to customers who purchase an annual subscription between May 4 at 10:00 a.m. to May 11 at 11:59 p.m PT. Promo subject to Humble Bundle Terms of Service. Promo is subject to change.

Previous offer (1 month ago):

Limited time offer, available for upgrading and new customers for April only. Promotion ends April 6 at 9:59 a.m. Pacific time. $20 USD wallet credit granted after annual plan purchase. Customers who have previously received Humble Wallet funds for subscribing as part of another promotion are ineligible. Wallet credit is only available to customers who purchase an annual subscription between March 30 at 12:00 a.m. to April 6 at 9:59 a.m PT. Promo subject to Humble Bundle Terms of Service. Promo is subject to change.

Note warning "Customers who have previously received Humble Wallet funds for subscribing as part of another promotion are ineligible.".

Someone is needed to check it out or to ask support for clarification.

You just have to remember to pause each bundle month you don't want.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

It's the same with a recurring, month-by-month payment as well

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

With recurring, I just end up cancelling altogether so I don't have to remember to pause each month because I forgot to pause once.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

Can you pause after you've learnt what the games are? I assumed you go in blindly, when they reveal a set then you can only pause for the next month (that you know nothing about yet).

This whole approach really turns me off, as I am not prepared to pay for the unknown. But that's how their business model works, I guess, more money from selling a cat in a bag.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

Pause only works for the early unlocks, and assuming you haven't activated any of them. Even then it has to be done before the payment date at the end of a month.

It's true that the business model works on the concept of blind purchasing for the most part (early unlocks aside) so it wouldn't make much sense for them to let you skip on a month you know all the contents of.

I feel it's best to treat the bundles as assuming the early unlocks are the only things you want from it and treat anything else as a bonus.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

So let's say I took the 12 month subscription in January.
Can I pause it right now and not get Destiny 2?
And if the next reveal is a game I want, can I unpause it and get this month bundle?

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

if you took 12 month subscription in January you can pause it and didn't get destiny 2, and you can unpause if you changed your mind.

Comment has been collapsed.

Thanks for the explanation, it didn't really register with me that early unlocks show what is coming (plus the unknown, which I can't care less about), and I can decide to stop at that time.

Still, paying for 12 months up front, and then deciding to only unpause it 3–4 times as year (looking at their history) doesn't make any sense β€” even if it is cheaper. I'd rather pay $12 here and now (if I like the early unlock, I agree with your approach), than effectively give them lots of money and use it up over 4–5 years (who knows if Humble will exist then? who knows if I'll even be interested?)

With my rate of playing even one new game per month is too frequent :D

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

I'm inclined to agree with you. I prefer opting for a "pay by the bundle" option so you're not essentially locked into it.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

Actually it's not hard to remember. You got mail with information about the unlocks of previous bundle and the new bundle, right? I actually never paused before, but this is the first time I will... unless some cool game will be added. And They should really chose better game than Destiny 2... it's not a good game at all.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

The difference is that they bill recurring members 1 week before the monthly deadline. For example, people had until May 4th to decide whether to buy last month's bundle. However, they billed recurring members on April 27th for it. So for those that want to wait to pause their subscription so that they can still get a discount from the store, they'd have 1 week less to decide whether to pause or not.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

I mean rather...

There is June Bundle with just early unlock. Mayb Bundle is out. You got e-mail that June Bundle exist. So You check it and cancel if You don't like the games. I paused as soon as I realized this is Destiny 2. If they will give the cool games... I will unpause. If I remember (so for me more to remember is to unpause than pause). But I got bad feeling about this bundle.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

Yeah, I get what you're saying. But once paused, you no longer receive the 10% Store discount. So I try to pause later in case I want to buy a game from the Store during a future sale. Hope this month has some early Steam reveals...

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

You can still unpause later.
Also, what? You really want this 10% bonus? Humble has really high prices. I haven't bought anything from their store but one game. Even discounts don't make those game cheaper than in other stores.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

That really depends on the individual games, their sales on some games can be just as good as other sites'. It's not automatically the worst :)

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

I never said it's the worst. But it's too rare that there are any good sales that make games cheaper than on other sites. Not on my overburdened wishlist at least.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

As adam1224 mentioned, Humble prices can be the lowest with sales. For example, 3 weeks ago Humble had Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain for $4.49 with the discount. No other site could beat this all-time low price (G2A, CDKeys, etc). Also, where else are you going to use the Humble credit most people have from referrals and if they subscribed for a year?

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

Bought MGS: The Definitive Experience for like 8$. And I get more thn just TPP. I got GZ and DLC's.

I'm not going to use credits. Not unless they give proper sale of proper game. I'm using IsThereAnyDeal and I never get prices lower on Humble. Maybe some base games like TPP had... but why even thinking about buing TPP without GZ? And with GZ + DLC it's 8 dollars. Maybe more than 4,5, but I got more. If You tell me that Definitive Experience was cheaper on Humble, then ok. But I never seen any game from my wishlist with better price on Humble. Just one, I think.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

Some folks already had GZ and didn't care for any of the cosmetic dlcs. For them, the regular TPP was a better choice than Voidu's DE package. It's true that Humble can't beat most of the third party reseller's prices on popular games. However, good deals can be found where ppl with $25+ credits can actually use them without feeling ripped off. Everyone can choose whether to not use their credits, use it on good deals, use it on bad deals. It's all up to them.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

It's weird to buy GZ without TPP tbh. And if someone did that, it was probably preorder. Such people don't even care if they pay 2 or 200$ as long as they give everything asap. I never even thought about buing one without another.
But even so, it's really rare that Hubmle has something on sale. Unless someone doesn't wait for the best price ever happened. I bought Cuphead when the price wasn't that much off, so I can understand that. But generally i prefer to not use credits to buy whatever, if I can wait and buy sth good with good price.

Please correct me if I'm wrong but for your friend to get the extra $15 referral your humble account must not have ever been subscribed to any instance of monthly (month by month, 3 minths etc) Double check that just in case

If I wasn't already prepaid through like August 2028*, I'd probably do this!

*This may be a slight exaggeration, but I swear they ran at least 2 of these "prepay for 12 months and get a bonus" deals last year, and I did them both, and they stacked, so I'm prepaid for a long time.

People have been saying that these deals don't stack. Do you have a trick or were there some exceptions, but now they fixed it?

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

I checked my history to see the details. My subscription was up at the end of August 2017, so I renewed. That extended my subscription through August 2018. Then in February, I renewed again because of the $20 wallet credit, and that extended my subscription through August 2019.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

Right, but did you get TWO wallet credits? That is what I thought you were talking about in terms of stacking. Yes, you can extend your yearly subscription as many times as you want, but you can only get the wallet credit once.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

I didn't, because in August 2017 I don't think there was any such deal (I was renewing just because my original subscription was up).

So I'm not sure.

EDIT: I just went through the process to renew, and it offered me the $25 wallet credit. Now, I've already spent the $20 wallet credit, so perhaps if I had that available the new one wouldn't be an option... not sure. But it looks like I could get the new deal as long as I am willing to extend through August 2020. (Which I am not).

I'm probably going to pick it up because I buy all of them anyways. Also, the $25 refund basically and the free month isn't bad. The only problem is having that much disposable income to spend at one time.

This is generally good value. (But...)
But you end with more games than you can ever play.
With money from yearly subscription you could cherry pick games you really want.

ALSO: They are lately offering more and more incentives to get people subscribed to yearly plan...
This will somehow affect future bundle quality.

Why would there be no pausing allowed? You've already paid for 12 months, so they already have your money and you should be allowed to pause whenever you want. You pay for 12 months and you get 12 months, it shouldn't have to be 12 consecutive months.

If you're on the fence, don't do it. I was on the fence and decided to do it back when they offered $10 and have regretted it ever since.

(Not so much for the games, they were for the most part still fine -- although many will be rebundled in the weekly eventually -- but everything else around it. I'd have rather been buying it on a month-to-month basis than being stuck with it for a year - or longer if I skip some - before I can get out.)

Copied form humble support.

You can earn Wallet credit by referring signups to Humble Monthly! Here's how:

First, you're going to need a Humble Wallet. You can set that up with just a few clicks from your Account Settings page. Just click Create a Wallet and pick your currency.

At this time, Humble Wallet is only usable in the Humble Store. It can't be used on bundles or the Monthly. For more information, please see Humble Wallet FAQ

Once you have your wallet configured, go back to your Account Settings page to find your unique referral link:

You can copy and share this link! If a new subscriber signs up for a personal subscription (non-gift) by following your link, you'll get an email automatically, and applicable wallet credit for the Humble Store!

This bonus is only applicable to BRAND NEW subscribers. If they've been subscribed in the past, no credit will be applied.

How it should work:

  • You take a ref link and give it to your friend
  • Your friend uses your link^(1) and subscribes to annual (12-month) plan
  • You get 15$ wallet credit^(2)
  • Your friend gets 25$ wallet credit^(3)

(1) It's recommended to clear browser cookies or open incognito mode before using link.
(2) Your friend should subscribe to Humble Monthly first time. For example, if your friend was subscribed on any Monthly plan, including just 1 month, in past and later canceled subscription, then you will not get ref bonus credit.

Direct links make sense though:
for current subscribers (to extend your current plan on 1 more year), if you didn't use "year plan + wallet bonus" promotions before
for new subscribers or those, who subscribed before, but not used "year plan + wallet bonus" promotions

We are sorry, but this promotion is not available for gifts.

Note about referrals:
SteamGifts by default modifies all Fanatical.com, HumbleBundle.com, GamersGate.com links from all threads, adding the SteamGifts referral code. Whenever a user click or shares a link to one of the sites listed above, SteamGifts will earn a commission.
