Is this a Viral Otaku Bundle?
I happen to have tried a few of their games. Most of the time, neither the game content or polished graphics can justify the asking price which can be pretty absurd in some cases.
Take "Forestation" for example, which is a game that can be finished in around 1h (well now 2h since they basically duplicated the game, giving it an option to enable a retro look). It was released on Steam at no less than $15.99 (good thing that they dropped the price to $3.99 after a while) and not even the achievements were working until recently. Last I've heard, the devs managed to fix them but I am not sure if their fix is backwards compatible with the people that managed to partially trigger these achievements in the past - my case. The devs are pretty non-responsive, I've written them emails in the hopes of establishing some sort of contact but they seem to be focused on producing new releases rather than fixing / improving their old ones.
"Who's in the Box?" is another story of high price ($4.99) for little content (20 minutes).
The reviews seem to showcase these issues pretty well. Nice-looking games, but buggy, with not fully working achievements and with little content. Still, I'm surprised that they accepted to have their games bundled for just $0.60, considering how greedy they are with their prices :D I don't know if they're THAT desperate to get new players (I assume that not many people fall into the trap of buying their games full price from the store), or they just like Otaku that much :)

As far as I know, the devs set the prices as they want.

Yeah bunch of short (unfinished) games at prices you expect full games for, making them greedy.
Maybe they expected to get cards out of it eventually, and now as a last effort milk it when they still can.
But hey what else can you expect from otaku bundles? :p
Comment has been collapsed.
A lot more interesting that the bundle is the mention of groupbundl.es in the OP, hadn't seen that one before. Anyone use it? Tell us more?
Comment has been collapsed.
Yes I've used it several times by now, but not with Otaku / GoGo, therefore I can't tell you how long you need to wait until the bundles are delivered. I bought some IndieGala bundles and they were delivered during the happy hour. You have 1 or 2 days to pay for the bundle, after which you will be able to find the links to the bundle on your profile section of the website. The links are removed after a few days, to keep the database clean.
Its pretty much the same as the classic Group Buys group, but with an easier to use interface. There are group buys for every bundle and also bundle splits, individual buys, the vast majority of all these being organized by the owner and developer of the website, Alexandra. Since for Otaku / Gogo there aren't any hosts for US, I have been asked to add her groupbuys to the list.
There's a Discord channel for announcements about picking up bundles. You'll also be announced via email.
I think that one of the major differences between the website and the group is that on GroupBundl.es there is no restriction about the number of copies that you can reserve from a specific bundle, no matter the bundle site (only one reservation per person for IG / Fanatical / Humble Bundle is allowed in the group).
Apart from that, the prices for IG on the website were at some point slightly lower than in the group because Alexandra doesn't consider the first bundle copy needed for HH (hers) in the total calculation. I haven't bought from her in a few months, so I don't know the current situation.

asking a favor, here, Lilly:
even in groupbuys they quite often forget to mention the hoster PayPal country account. and, beside if any copies are left, that's the info i first need. so, Kenshin (asia) is not that good for me, but Prinz and Manuel (eu) are :D
can i ask you also if you know if groupbundes has eu PayPal?
thanks for everything

Most of the payment system, at least for Alexandra hosted splits, is automated. When a split ends, you'll get a message telling you how much you owe, and instructions for methods of payment: PayPal, gems, or site credits.
Groupbundl.es has a credits system built right into the site. You could deposit $20 or whatever with Alexandra, and then just use it up as needed to pay for bundles and splits you like. You can also deposit gems and CS keys as credit.

thanks, dys
i usually buy, on groupbuys, what's already there, what's left. don't like much "reservations" for happy hours, nor subscriptions.
PayPal, still, is my preferred method. So, if the difference is not huge, i buy bundles directly at, say, otaku.
it may sounds spoiled, but i like to get a game i want quick, so i can pay it and forget (to have just bought something i'll never play :D)

I'm a bit late with the reply here, since dys seems to have explained it already.
Right now, all the bundle group buys are hosted by Alexandra, but I think it's possible for anyone to host something if they want, since I've seen bundle splits hosted by other members too. GroupBundl.es is always a work in progress, it has been improved a lot over the past months and it grows exponentially. I am pretty sure that in the future there will be bundle hosts from other regions too, but before that she might need to set up some automatic ways to deliver bundles or the ability for everyone to receive credits instead of Paypal (those two features come to mind first, but there might be other things too).

thanks again, Lilly.
dys exlained already but you've made me think about that not only Alexandra will host, so more "PayPal regions" will be available. didn't thought about this, neither:
...automatic ways to deliver bundles or the ability for everyone to receive credits
...
i really hope the site will grow and succeed.

Hey, I'm Alexandra!
To clarify, bundles are delivered Automagically when I have keys and when paying with credits with automatic payments on. GroupBundl.es is a buy-on-demand service, so I usually wait a few days on OtakuMaker bundles (OtakuBundle, Go Go Bundle) to allow all of those that want a specific bundle to reserve. Payments via PayPal and Gems are unfortunately not processed automatically currently, but I'm working on fixing that at least with the Gem option in the future.
Credit deposits via PayPal are restricted to users who have paid for a bundle at least once prevent targeted attacks from malicious actors. However, I'd be more than happy to lift this restriction for anyone who signs up - just let me know on-site and I'll remove that restriction for you.
And I'd like to say that anyone can apply to host group buys, bundle splits, auctions, etc. regardless of region if they have some reputation on a trading site or within Group Buys. Applications are always open and are occasionally automatically approved depending on your reputation.
Thanks for the interest. <3 We'd love to hear from you if you have any other questions, comments, or concerns.

Thanks for the detailed information! I'll certainly keep an eye on it in the future.
A suggestion, maybe mention the paypal host country next to the groupbuy links in the OP, if possible?
Comment has been collapsed.
You don't need to send 0.70 or 0.88 or 0.92 for bundles, you can save those 0.30, 0.40 or 0.48 pennies for another one.
I've been her customer for the past two months and till now the bundles have been timely delivered
Besides it's simple, easy to use and the host is trusted and her Paypal is of US. So no G&S problem and you can send it via F&F.
And i really like the idea of organizing group-buys in a website rather than groups, and all other reasons have been mentioned by lilly(sensualshakti) above.
If you've a US paypal, go for it, you will surely love to be a member, and instead of hesitating (like once i was), you'll be a frequent user.

hope you'll take these words as friendly as much as you can:
i don't think that is a "fair" use of H1. i do use it a lot, not for commercial things, tho.
that said, abrix, noticed groupbund.es too, and also sounds good, here... i may take a further look.
also, don't worry about that: if it's useful, handy and cheap, we (sg) will use it :D
Comment has been collapsed.
Hey there, it was not my intention to commercialized anything or promoting anything.
If as a gamer i can help someone save a few bucks then it's all good.
And to the extent, i think that's the fair use of H1, because many people don't really know that there's a groupbuy in the US too
Comment has been collapsed.
Hey, I'm Alexandra - would like to clarify that I don't take a commission on group buys I host on GroupBundl.es. Other hosts are permitted to take up to 10% and hosts are not permitted to charge for the first bundle e.g. with Indiegala unless it is going to a reserver.
Comment has been collapsed.
EU paypal here and I have a groupbuy host I've been going with for years, but thanks for the first-hand information!

Well lemme tell you,
There are different types of bundles, GOGO MEGA, GOGO LIMITED #NUMBER, etc., that have a down value of $0.60 per bundle or $0.30 per bundle if you buy 50 or 30 or 20 or 10, it really doesn't matter in groupbuys as the individual count will be either 0.60, 0.45, 0.30 if you buy the maximum allowed copies in that bundle.
So, for a US citizen, who buys from another trader OUTSIDE US, the F&F fees are high as fuck, and unreliable, plus you're investing somewhat double the money that's required.
Check this paypal caluculator here
Now, check the following table. If there are 50x copies of bundle with individual prices below
Bundle price per individual in USD | Price user will send as G&S in USD | Price the seller will receive in USD | Price you're paying extra in USD |
---|---|---|---|
0.60 | 1 | 0.61 | 0.39 |
0.45 | 0.80 | 0.45 | 0.35 |
0.30 | 0.63 | 0.31 | 0.32 |
So as you can check above, per bundle you're paying literally double the money, therefore it's advisable to buy from her, ONLY IF YOU'RE IN US, as the F&F option will not concur shitty fees paying to PAYPAL
So, as you can easily see, you can save at least 40% (max is 50%) in bundles. if you buy from someone who's hosting a groupbuy within your same region :)
Comment has been collapsed.
Check the table, you'll know.. and this applies to G&S and as you know it very well, G&S payments can be easily charge-back.. I've personally tested this and literally G&S sucks. so unless you really don't trust the other person, G&S payment isn't the best option out there in the market.
EDIT - No, it's not a special case, as it applies to the amount we're paying PER BUNDLE, i.e. 0.30, 0.45, 0.60..
Comment has been collapsed.
I checked the initial table which only showed saving of 37%, which is not AT LEAST 40% in any case. Why are you arguing about PayPal fees that you would be paying at your own choice? You can save a lot by just not choosing to give PP a tip.
Comment has been collapsed.
I'm talking about a case in which there was NO REPUTABLE GROUPBUY ORGANIZER in US. You can even check the usual GROUPBUY group, their is one from VIETNAM, and other from EU but there ain't a groupbuy organizer from the US. that's reputable enough, and groupbundles is an awesome solution to that.
Earlier I'd to pay hefty fees and therefore literally i was paying for 2 bundles for the price of 1, but now, I'm happy
@starwhite, please read this, i guess NOW you'll know what I'm talking about, the target audience here is a gamer having a US paypal.
PS - if i increase 1-2 cents in each, it'll be 40%, which i reduced intentionally.
Comment has been collapsed.
Lol, i already told you, the fees are based on the price, and the price is set on the number of bundles. simple.
For example, in this current bundle, if you buy 10 copies, you'll pay total 6 USD
Now, assuming that you'll keep one copy for yourself.
So, the remaining 9 copies you can sell max at $0.60 each.
So in order to get 0.60 in your paypal account, if someone is outside from US, he'll have to send $1+ using G&S [ and there's a drawback and huge risk ] or F&F which is hefty, as you'll have to pay additional $2 per transaction on F&F
So as you can see, F&F option is the best for having groupbuys that'll save for the next bundle...only if you're in the same country as host
Comment has been collapsed.
Since when does F&F have additional $2 fee when before it had none? And why would you ever sell the 9 copies needed for a level 5 badge to anyone. The crappy shovelware games not having cards is a reason for not buying them at all, not for buying just 1 copy. :)

How is that promoting a business, what business are you talking about, if i take your sense then all these threads by shakti should be deleted, as she's promoting a website, OTAKU, HUMBLE, GOGO, etc.
You should really clear your conscience and literally take your mind a little bit higher, than digging it deeper.
Comment has been collapsed.
You're the one who gave me a table first that showed only a saving of 37% while claiming it to be at least 40%. What I said was it not being 40% IF YOU BUY 10 COPIES YOURSELF. That is still true no matter what % you come up with next.
You are the lost one here if even after all this you don't get that the only point was and is THE HUGE TEXT.
Comment has been collapsed.
lol, I've double checked the amount and then i changed it, you can see the change was before your comment,
Lemme break down the percentage for you
0.60 -> (0.39/1) multiply 100 = 39%
0.45 -> (0.35/0.80) multiply 100 = 43.75%
0.30 -> (0.32/0.63) multiply 100 = 50.79%
Formula = (Excess amount / Total Amount Paid) multiply 100
Comment has been collapsed.
You changed it while I had pressed the reply button already even if it was before I pressed submit comment button. The original numbers still were $0.63 and $1.00 which is why I commented about it. Also 39% that you're now telling me isn't at least 40% either. You're the one giving me these numbers so it makes very little sense to argue about them being wrong.
Comment has been collapsed.
Well if you're arguing about 1%, then i can understand the misery in which you're currently in, I do have my sympathies with you and i will pray for you too, so that your intellectual conscience will do something better than this.
May the force be with you son.

I was too lazy to read the manual for how to use H1 here so I just used ALL CAPS instead. Also what I said about buying 10 copies is true unless you can buy 10 for $3.60 or less from elsewhere. And since when did people stop getting that :P implies it being not so serious? You then proceeded to give me wrong numbers and kept arguing about them because I pointed out that they are wrong. I wouldn't even had commented if you didn't so desperately want attention to your post by using the HUGE TEXT. I wouldn't have commented about 37% or 39% if you didn't keep telling me these numbers which also were irrelevant in the case of buying 10 yourself.
Comment has been collapsed.
Also what I said about buying 10 copies is true unless you can buy 10 for $3.60 or less from elsewhere.
I guess 0.60*10 = $6, not 3.6 USD, but i think you like to have 10 copies for 3.6 USD, and to be frank, that's a complete BS, and by making the above comment, you just proved my point..
Comment has been collapsed.
You are the one claiming that you can save 40% in all cases by just having US PayPal. I simply made a humorous comment about one case where you can't save anything and used ALL CAPS as a reference to your unnecessarily HUGE TEXT. Everything after that is you giving me wrong numbers and arguing about them.
You claimed people can save 40%, which would make 10 copies cost $3.60, not me. I don't want any copies of this useless trash. So you are still only arguing against yourself, which I agree is complete BS. Stop reading so much hostility into where there is none, take a deep breath and read what I wrote again. I think I'm done explaining the same thing over and over if your next reply will be more of the same.
Comment has been collapsed.
First and foremost you really don't know a single thing about groupbuy, what it means and how it works
I've already stated that
Besides it's simple, easy to use and the host is trusted and her Paypal is of US. So no G&S problem and you can send it via F&F.
Do you know what's G&S and what's F&F??
Besides i don't think that you've ever participated in any groupbuy running in the steam group, otherwise you won't be making BS here and saying this
You claimed people can save 40%, which would make 10 copies cost $3.60,
I guess at this time you really need some help. Because there ain't a groupbuy known to the US, otherwise the OP would've mentioned that in the previous post, it's just you completely misunderstood the point what i wrote and perceived in all the wrong ways. Even though i clearly explained how the process work, still you're arguing a complete BS about how things work.
And right now, in the above comment, i already explained everything regarding the savings.

Hey there! I'm Alexandra. I develop and run GroupBundl.es. I'm sure Lily and others have answered most of your questions by now, but if you have any other questions or need any more help, we have a couple of handy articles here describing how the site works, and we can help with direct questions or clarifications here or on-site.

bought just because I missed most of the games, I'll try and review everything at my best when I'll have the time to play them.. let's see, some games at 10€ are somehow scary.. I reviewed 5€+ games similar to these ones that gave like 2 hours of playtime or less in total xD Yeah they definitely decide the price.. of course, zero cards..

I wish the bundle script included a "hide on SG" button that displayed next to each game in the bundle :)
Comment has been collapsed.
What some find to be trash others don't. There are times where I find an indie gem or two gets put into bundles surrounded by things I don't care for, mainly in the IG bundles. So adding what you suggested might work for some, but probably not for me.
Comment has been collapsed.
What your stating isn't really making sense. You mentioned that there should be a default list where people don't need to click hide 10k-20k times. As I've stated each person is different and what they consider to be trash so putting thousands of games on a default list to what someone else considers trash wouldn't be something I use.
Comment has been collapsed.
There are plenty of users who want to hide lots of games. For them it would be less work to unhide the ones they like from bundles like this because for every gem there are dozens of trash. I guess it's not very practical for most but maybe the couple people who hide 99% would like it. You wanted a button to hide games one by one, I came up with an idea to require even less clicking. :)
