The Latin I learned in school is the reason why I can read some Spanish (there were times when I could even understand it when listening) ... Italian is harder, but Portuguese ... as a non Neo-Latin Speaker I don't see many similarities between Spanish and Portuguese ... and they sound completely different to me

Ehhh. I live in Bavaria and honestly, I never understood Bavarian. I mean, I can read it and may understand it if I spend a few minutes on deciphering a sentence but.. no thank you. Bavarian is evil.
