Do you think we will get anything?
What game(s) do you think they will give us?
Maybe we will just get hats for TF2?

Edit: Steam Didn't even send me an email about the hack. So if it wasn't for video game websites posting it I wouldn't have known.

I wonder what they will do if they steal money from people's credit cards or games from their accs since it's totally their fault..
And yeah they should give something for free instead of a useless cheap apology! Hats for tf2? no thanks lol!
I don't think they'll give anything expensive, but something like dungeon defenders could be great! Well.. even if they give something it'll be a valve game, maybe then dota2? :)

you will get nothing... this is valve we're talking about here, and steam fans are rabid in their love for the company... its not like sony where they feel they might have upset or offended their customers... valve completely knows that its customers are blindly loyal and they can do whatever they want without losing them :)

now EA... oh man, i hope EA gets hacked. they know they're not loved, so im sure they'll give out free stuff... dear hackers, when you've had your fun with steam, go after EA please :D

When MW2 players where falsely VAC banned they gave out Left 4 Dead 2.

Although, Steam hasn't been down for one and a half months, I am already neck deep in games, I can't afford to spend time on ANOTHER game.

ROFL. No way in hell that EA would give out free stuff for getting hacked.

I think Valve might do something like that though, maybe make L4D2 free for a while like they did with Portal. Why? Because when they wrongfully banned 12000 MW2 players for cheating everybody got L4D2 for free.

where was the break given when other companies got hacked. no one gave a crap... in fact people were even harsher than theyve been in this case. But just because its valve, suddenly its 'oh its not their fault, cut them some slack'? this is what i was talking about by rabid fanboys... just how big does valve need to screw up, or just how evil do they have to get before its fans start thinking valve isnt that great?

and no, im not someone expecting or demanding valve give us treats for their screwup... in fact im positive we wont get anything, even an apology for their security lapse.

It's not about 'being hacked', that can happen to anyone - it's about what they do later, when they discover it.

Sony decided to hide it. Got a shitstorm.
Valve decided to tell everyone "hey, shit happens, we fucked up". We go easy on them.

Simple as that.

Regardless it was plainly obvious they got hacked when all you could see on their boards was join fkn0wned. I'd love to have seen how they would have attempted to cover it up.

didnt they get hacked days ago? i only hear about this TODAY - and through OTHER forums... valve didnt even bother to notify me themselves. once again, its up the community to inform the public rather than the company... i just cant get my head around all this blind love for valve... its like theyre the gaming equivlient of apple, where their fans are just so loyal it doesnt matter what they do. but in that respect, i do ADMIRE valve for being able to get to that place.. it IS a great accomplishment to get to that apple level of blind fandom, so good on them for that... shows they wont have any trouble with customers in the future no matter what happens :)

Actually, when you start up steam you get a message telling you exactly this. So stop complaining and bitching about everybody else being a retarded fanboy.

And why did they only say that other stuff got stolen today? Well, maybe because they investigated and had to figure out what was accessed before they say something?

We're not fanboys, you are a pointless hater.

did not stop everyone holding sony accountable though did it. only reason im even posting about this is because i just wish people would be a little less hypocritical about these scenarios. hold all companies to the same standards, not just one for valve, and unreasonably high standards for everyone else. people should be upset about this, rather than just shrugging their shoulders and saying 'nevermind, its valve, so ill let it slide'.

i for one, agree that this shit happens. but what i get pissed about, is that suddenly no one cares PURELY because its valve... if im sounding pissed, its purely because i am pissed about the hypocrisy shown by valve fanboys. valve is just a company like any other. they care about their customers as much as the next one... they screw over customers as much as the next one... and theyre as kind and generous as the next one. its just that have a damn good public relations team... which seems to be well worth the money in this case.

I don't find it all that ridiculous that someone might want compensation for Valve being at fault for allowing hackers to potentially gain access to users account passwords and credit card information.

It's Valve's responsibility to maintain their security. If their unable to do so, then people are going to be rightfully angry. I have no sympathy for Valve, I have a great deal of sympathy for anyone who may have issues with their account details/credit card information being stolen.

They are encrypted, and judging by the fact that the passwords were encrypted and salted valve know how to secure their shit in case anything leaks out. (Unlike Sony)
Cracking the encryption would probably take really really long so i guess the ones who stole it wont really bother.

No free stuff. Shit happens, and they where completely right in their attitude to tell everyone about it (not like Sony, who just tried to keep it hidden until a lot of its customers started complaining about cc problems). It'd be nice, though.

Anyway, it's a good thing not to let your credit card information stored on any website, really. It's stuff you're the only one supposed to know.

It's not a pipe dream either since their security simply wasn't up to snuff and iirc Valve has given out free things in the past as compensation for their blunders. Guys are getting greedy. Valve is one of the most generous companies I know. Several free Portal events, free TF2, and all that stuff. Heck, most of the updates for TF2, companies like Capcom would make you pay for.

sorry but that is not generosity, thats clever marketing, nothing more. the fact that its worked on you and made you so docile and starry eyed is proof of how well it works... you know the saying... theres a sucker born every minute :) valve is like every other company out there, dont believe any differently.

We are not entitled to anything, wishing/hoping so is the wrong attitude to have towards this situation. What good is a free game if our accounts get hacked, wise guy? Your concern should be with security, not consolation prizes.
