I got Haunted House (wishlist game) for 2080 gems. At their current rate I would have made a bit under $2 by selling them so that's an effective 90% off for me. (Plus I got the badge as a bonus.)

Won Fading Hearts with 9600 gems. That's about 50% off atm. Not bad, considering i made most of my gems with those 3 cent wallpapers :)
Edit:
More: Winged Sakura: Mindy's Arc + OST - 8100 gems
DreadOut - 5700 gems
Flower Shop: Winter In Fairbrook - 3600 gems
Disney Extreme Racing Pack - 8100 gems
All of them were on my wishlist, so i won't buy anything this sale.

This is how the Christmas profile looks, it's also animated, seems the most or only ppl who get it are like this user, who have tons of money just by seeing his Gaming setup of 3 Gaming PC/Laptop/Tablet specs. Another example

I really don't understand all the hate / jealousy / whatever "normal" people have towards "wealthy" people.
Also, in my opinion, your post seems like calling out this user, since you used "just look at" what's he's done, basically...

It's not calling out, because this users didn't do anything wrong, and didn't break any SG rule, and I don't hate it, I was just posting what I found interesting and saying that this user bought it because he clearly has too much money, just by seeing his PC specs for example. But imo this profiles look awesome.
Anyways I edited that "just look at", since it doesn't looks good like you said.

I don't know... When you have the items and Steam funds already why are you a retard/moron for spending it? And to be perfectly honest, if I had 3000 games, 8000 items and full Steam wallet myself, why should I sell emoticons for 3 cents each and... then what? Hoard forever? I know it would be nice if rich gave the money directly to us instead of VaLVE but is that behaviour really something new and Steam exclusive?

Oh, do you know him? How's he doing?
By the way, who do you think is the "moronest of the two"? The one who spends a large amount of money for - call it that way if you want to - futile things, or the one who complains about one's way of spending his money? Yeah, think about that...

Your post: "Those guys have more money than I have, I have to find some way to comfort myself. Uhm... I know, let's call 'em morons! YAY!"

I won 4 different games one of which is Eufloria. I spent less then 100 Gems for all of them :) (it was just the beginning of the auction). So I like the event :)
To sum up everything written here already:
- the chances to win must be better at the middle of the event (for example, from 30th to 60th round)
- most of the games are too overvalued for current gems price. So it may be much better to get money from emoticons, bgs and sacks
- you have to be patient

I just snatched Descent. Strangely enough, the games are not tradable but you can send them as a gift.

The only thing it says is:
"This gift was won in the Holiday Sale 2014 game auction".
For games bought as gifts:
"( Not Tradable )
Gifts become tradable 30 days after purchase. This gift will become tradable on 31 Dec. You can still send the gift at any time by clicking the"

Got an adventure game I´ve been curious about for a while: Lost Horizon for 2405 gems

Additional games won as I slept:
MotorSport Evolution (This one surprised me as I was in 95th place when I went to sleep)
Codename: Panzers - Cold War
Starion Tactics
(all from my wish list, not 1 cent spent (used trash cluttering up inventory that would not sell for even 0.03), and over $2 profit and a few gems left)

Nothing and I'm not GOING to win anything even though I'll enter.

BTW I think it was masterpiece by Valve with this sale, according to their profit.
Every game, according to:
"Thank you to all the awesome developers and publishers who generously donated copies of their titles to the Holiday Auction!"
was for free for them. Moreover all fees goes to Valve:
"Subtotal 0.45 EUR
Steam fee 0.04 EUR
Steam transaction fee 0.02 EUR (fee charged by Valve S.à r.l.)"
So it's not even sale and they profited like hell just thanks to idea, good leverage on developers and people who likes to gamble or like some purely digital addons to theirs profiles.
Hope that person who come to this idea will be given big bonus.

I spent about a buck (plus using stuff already in my inventory) and won HTR+ Slot Car Simulation for 5,000 something gems. Not a bad deal, considering retail is $20. My strategy was trying to win a game not many people wanted.

What did you win, if anything?
What's your tactics to make sure you win?
I'm in line to maybe, potentially, if all goes well, win something in round 10 or so... let's see how that goes :-)
Update: pulled my gems out and sold 1k yesterday, and just put another 1k on the market, I'm left with 122 gems now... meaning I didn't win, and will not win, but would've won if I had left my 2k on the game I was originally bidding on (Prophour23, wishlisted).
I see lots of you were luckier, or just simply better at it. It's amazing what you guys are winning! :-)
