As said in the FAQ :
The maximum number of points that can be banked is 300. This is to prevent users from stocking up on points while being away for long periods of time.
The reason the limit is here is obvious, but what can we considerate a "long period of time"? A day? A week? A month?

The system works fine, except when bundles come out. Why ? Because of loads of bundle giveaways making the limit reached in a few hours. I don't think being away for a few hours is "a long period of time", but sadly the limit is here and you can't enter more than a "few" GA (eg : entering mostly mirror's edge GA, i may have entered like only 10% of them)

Personally, i think it would be great to let the points go over the limit, and set them to 300 if they're still above 1 day later (and of course, they won't go over 300 as long as they're unused). Thus inactive user would still be limited to 300p, but active users would have 1 day to use them without having to stay full-time on SG (right now i got 31p while writing this post).

That's only my point of view, what's yours ?

Everything is fine as is, leave it be.

I think that any change that cg makes will be accompanied by bitching and whining, so leaving it is the best option. It works fine anyways.

300 is too many, we don't need to build more. I can enter every valid giveaway available to me with that many points. Not like you need to enter everything.

At the moment the reason why points build so fast is that the site was gone for 2-3 days AND a bundle came out. Generally things work better than this even when bundles release.

Just bank your points in long-term GAs. It's a bit of work but it neatly bypasses the limit without breaking the spirit of the system.

Yep. I was doing this then after about a week I removed myself from all of them and had about 2,000 points to spend on soon-to-end giveaways. Didn't help me in anyway as I didn't win anything but it's a cool little way to stock up on more points.

I'm doing it for a while, but only when there are no games that I would like to get

EDIT: oh and thus the limit of 300 is just fine

I think 300 is even too high.

Right now, during high activity when big bundles comes out, the 300 pt limit rewards active members. When it's slower, it serves the original purpose to prevent stockpiling then entering all giveaways when you come back. Either way, it's to stop idle members from have 1000's to spend, but the definition of "stockpiling" varies by week. The intention does not vary. We can argue about what the limit should be, but it's been 300 for a while and that works, so there's not much point changing it.

If you can't be on a PC multiple times per day, though, consider installing https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=org.nessuno.steamgifts&hl=en on your mobile.

Logged in this morning to find 300 points. I didn't have enough points to enter all the giveaways I wanted to. I had to leave a few that had over a week to go unentered.

A few hours later I had 300 points again. Now I could enter everything.

300 points seems fine to me.

So do you see that as a general problem or just as a complaint for you not getting enough points ?

I think 300 is fine. I've been at the 300 mark for the past week or two.

Nope.

Current system is simple, and works. If you keep running out, be more selective about what you enter...

He did say he was mostly entering Mirror's Edge giveaways. The only way he could be more selective is by only entering some of them (which he also says he's done).

Even so, It's hard to imagine anyone running out of points at the rate they are currently regenerating :)

I'm... actually out of points. And all but two of the giveaways I've entered have closed. And I had like 300 points stockpiled in future giveaways before the bundle started.

There have been over 200 Mirror's Edge giveaways in the last day or so, and I've entered about half of them. I should probably just buy the bundle and give the other games away... XP

Ha ha. :) I know, I could have stockpiled those 2000 points for the next time there was a huge influx of Humble Bundle games.

Thanks again. :)

It is of course impossible to enter everything you see, you can only enter approximately five percent at maximum. The OP's entire point was that during very popular bundles, you can enter approximately one to three percent of giveaways unless you check back every two hours or so. You can say that that's good, bad, or neither, but it's not like the OP was whining about not being able to enter everything.

Not entirely true. You can only enter 5% of the giveaways on the site, but with the titles I already own, there are plenty I can't see to enter. What I can see, well, easy to enter all of that. Only three pages.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

Well, yes, but I would guess that most people have more than three pages of giveaways to enter. For instance, I've currently got 22 (which is much higher than normal since it so happens that I don't have any of the games from the Origin bundle).

If you buy a very popular bundle you'll have an insane glut of points, but if you don't buy it and you want to enter giveaways for a game or two from it, then you'll have to check back every hour or so to enter more than half of them (if you're willing to spend that kind of time). Which is why there's no one system that feels right to everyone.

Heh, I just remembered when the weekly bundle with Darksiders came out. That was nuts; I got 300 points every 45 minutes or something. Good times. Good times.

I haven't even used up any points for the past few days. Being I was getting a free game every month, I think the system works the way it should. Increasing the point limit does not honestly change anything other than giving the giveaway enter'ers (lol that should be a word) a chance to win more than those whom spend their points only in giveaways they want. If anything, we might encourage the site to decrease it ;)

Wouldn't it just be better to make bundle games generale less points? Because if we have a higher point limit people will just enter every GA they can see when they come back after a day or so, instead of entering the Gas for games they like.
