Mass Effect series is, despite what others may think, my most favourite series of games I've played. Ever. No, this isn't a joke.
Other than that... New Vegas Ultimate Edition would be VERY well worth the sale it's on, right now ( I think it's either $15-20 ), most because of the wide variety of mods you can get.

As for any game, depends on your taste. Some people really hate(d) it. Personally I loved it and it had some original features. You yourself were the adventurer. You had some really nice and original places to explore (plus graphics, sounds and music were very good for the time). The story was intriguing. On top of this the puzzles were logical and the whole general feeling was toward immersion and relaxed exploration.
If you had to play it today it would probably feel only like a good indie game, but mainly because most adventure games that followed have been influenced by it. It would be impossible to feel how new and different it was at the time.
If you like adventures, try it out. You could find a "peg-leg trial version" of "Myst: Masterpiece Edition" (remastered faithfully to the original) or "realMyst" (remade in real-time 3D so you can walk freely around + 1 extra area) and decide for yourself.
If you prefere 2D adventures and/or RPGs, try Quest for Glory 3. Officially it's an adventure, but it really plays like a good D&D session. :)

It depends on what genres you like, maybe check for demos or revies/ yt gameplays before you decide
atm most games are on sale so for a few bucks you can have entertainment for the next few months ;)

Why should it even have anything to do with the previous games? Gameplay-wise, it's completely different, obviously, since it was made 9 years after MP1. Story-wise, he had nothing left to do in New York, and got an opportunity to leave it all, so yeah, it's an entirely new story. Story was great. There was a little too many cutscenes, definitely, but I didn't mind much (Though it becomes too much when I replay the game). And the AI wasn't poor at all.
Also, the game was made by Rockstar games instead of Remedy, so it was obvious it wouldn't have the Max Payne "feel" to it.
That's just my opinion.

Then why name it Max Payne 3 when it has nothing to do with the previous two games? Gameplay different, no "feel" as in MP1+2, shitty story, shitty AI; no, AI wasn't even remotely good, and filled with cutscenes. Naming it MP3 for the sake of promotion and destroying once great franchise.

Because it IS Max Payne. Just because he doesn't hang around with all his dead friends and foes anymore, doesn't mean it's not a Max Payne game. From your definition of "having anything to do with previous games" Max Payne 3 would basically have to be a remake of Max Payne 1, just with better graphics...
Just because you can't accept change, doesn't mean it's a bad game.

You're still just repeating the same words. Max was completely done with New York. He avenged his family, killed Vlad, and watched Mona die. What did you want it to be like? Max digging the hole of his own grave (which he actually does in MP3), and just lie down and die next to his family? Yeah, that would've been amazing!

Fallout 3 is my all-time favourite. Closely followed up by Civ 4 BTS. I'm a couple of hours into The Last Of Us and that could be up there somewhere too.
