It is confirmed that The Cat Lady directly purchased from Desura at full price will NOT give Steam key.

Bundle buyers, however, will soon receive the Steam key.

A very hard lesson learned. Fellow gamers, from now on, just don't buy any games that are not in a bundle.

Supporting a developer? That's too romantic. When it comes to business, customers are just a number.

Can someone permaban this guy already? :)

The only time he comes to the forums, he makes these stupid threads and whining about how bundle games ruin the game industry/developers.
And now ? :D
He's mocking other drm services and the developers and encouraging us to buy more bundles (like we totally need it).

Can you see now how pathetic, ignorant and stupid you are? :)

This is just not true. Send proof of purchase to dev and he will provide steam key. If you just WON a Desura key on the other hand, no, you don't deserve a key.

It's seems it was announced months ago. Still, people on Desura usually paid a larger amount compared to bundle buyers. Such a weird situation to be in as a Desura buyer.

https://twitter.com/screen7uk As the developer has just posted a comment on twitter, please ask him nicely to reconsider. It could be you get a response in 5 minutes, from the developer directly.

I do not want a Steam key. And actually I am asking Desura to revoke the game from my account. Why should I beg them for something I don't legally deserve? A mistake is a mistake. I didn't read the fine print. The humiliation I get is already enough. I don't want to get more insult by begging and getting rejected. And believe me, they won't give Steam keys to Desura buyers even if they bought at full price.

To the developer in case you happen to read my post: Sorry, it was all my fault. Yours is a great game. But my two cents is that bundle buyers usually are only willing to pay $1 for many games, i.e. you may get a few cents from each sale. It is the full price buyers who give you the fundamental support. If I were you, I would treasure those who pay higher.

So, you bought The Cat Lady, a game that's priced at a hyperbolic 7.99€, you actually got your game and you can play it all you like, but not getting a Steam key makes you scream "HARD LESSON!!!!1!"

Seriously, get over yourself.

Comment has been collapsed.

you see it the wrong way.
If I buy a game for lets say 10$ and some others pay on another distribution site only 1$.

Do you think its the right call to reward only the ones who have paid 1$?
Either reward ALL buyers or just no one.
I think if no one would have gotten steam keys it would have been just fine, since all got what they paid for --> the game they can now play.
But rewarding only 1$ buyers and not 10$ buyers is not logical at all.

And I am totally not against buying games for full price outside of bundles, I think OP just is angry and couldn't find the right words.

Why is getting a Steam key a reward? You've still got the game?

And it's the same with anything: I bought shoes for full price, but a friend when to a factory shop having a sale and got them 75% off...should I now refuse to buy shoes anywhere except factory shop sales?

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

@Ult3r1or
getting a steam key is definately a reward since you now have another copy of the game and also steam enables you some more comfort in handling your library.

and for the example with shoes it would go like this:
you pay shoes full price.
friend pay in outlet -75%.
after that company says to all people who bought shoes for -75% they will get another free pair of same shoes but people who paid full price don't.

I didn't read the fine print. My fault.

Mine was $4.99 only and for Desura only.
$1 Indiegamestand purchase gives Desura, GOG and Steam keys, altogether 3 keys. If it has cards, then it may eventually be free.
So I don't know. Many people here think that it is my fault. Then it's my fault. I can't care less now.

Not all developers act like that, some of them send Steam keys directly to your e-mail as a last resource after sending them a proof of purchase, in case there's an issue with the distribution of keys, or the place where you bought the game don't do that. It happened to me, twice, and now I'm waiting for the third.

Achievements, for one thing. More to earn in the game; while some non-Steam games have achievements, there's not near as many as those on Steam that do.

So you're saying we shouldn't support developers? Sure, and then complain games don't come out on PC or are poorly optimized. Games development takes money. Not to mention Cat Lady is an indie game, I'm sure devs could use money for their work. Especially if the game's good.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

The dev of Cat Lady is in fact encouraging gamers to buy bundles or $1 discounted games instead of buying games at full price.

Again, money is money. If paying more for an indie game would eventually get less in return, why should people pay more?

Poor optimization can never be the fault of anyone other than the devs, programmers, or publishers.

Gamers are never to blame for a shoddy game.

Why even purchase them for a few dollars when you can steal them all for free?!??!!

Personally I don't care spending a large sum on a game if it's really high quality and fun. I've done it a number of times, but don't regret it at all. Support the developers. I only really purchase the bundles to support the charities, the games that come with those are just a bonus generouslly donated by those developers who care. Now where's your heart?

Do NOT buy games (hard lesson learned)

I recently learned that, regardless of how many games we buy and regardless of how long science allows us to extend our lives, all of us must one day die; and after that, your games will be worth nothing to you.

It is confirmed that The Cat Lady directly purchased from Desura at full price will NOT be available to you to play after your death.

A very hard lesson learned. Fellow gamers, from now on, just don't buy any games.
