Hello everyone!

I've just recently finished playing both seasons of The Walking Dead for the first time, and I adored both games so much! But now I feel like my life is lacking a good story-rich game to play!!

So, I'm just looking for some recommendations of good games with a good/interesting story within it! There's just so many games out there, it's impossible to just scroll through Steam to find one!

I've loved games like TWD, Half Life series, Portal series, Fran Bow, Mirror's Edge, Remember Me, Deadlight, The Evil Within, etc.

Also, as a small thanks in advance, here's a giveaway of The Fall!

I love a strong story in games too, so here goes:

The Witcher games have great story, but be advised that 1 and 2 have clunky gameplay in some respects (1 in particular is very difficult to get into as a modern gamer). Witcher 3, however, is just one of the best games I've played all-around. Feel free to start there.

Both Supergiant games are amazing (Bastion and Transistor).

I don't think I've seen Mass Effect in this thread yet either, which is insane to me. If you like games where your choices have consequences long-term as well as near-term, Mass Effect is basically the pinnacle. Stuff you did in the first game is still having an impact in the third game.

Fallout: New Vegas is great. Easily the best of the modern Fallout games. Of the DLC Old World Blues is the best.

Fallout 4 base story is so-so, but the Far Harbor DLC is really good.

Bioshock Infinite is a fun game with an amazing ending story-wise. AVOID SPOILERS. Can't emphasize that enough. Never made it all the way through original flavor Bioshock, but I hear the same about it.

If your idea of a good story is a bugfuck crazy story, Saints Row IV is the way to go. You become the President then fight aliens in the Matrix with superpowers.

I liked both story and gameplay in Deus Ex: Human Revolution. Haven't played Mankind Divided yet but I have heard good things about it as well.

If you can get into old RPGS with old RPG levels of difficulty (read: high difficulty) Baldur's Gate II is amazing.

I quite enjoyed the story in Shadowrun: Dragonfall and Shadowrun: Hong Kong. The setting is great too.

...Okay, that's probably plenty. Hope you find something to enjoy in there!

On the point-and-click side, check out Broken Sword and Lost Horizon if you're into stories with a historical background.

Review for Tormentum
It's environmental, and there's a deep underlying message. I really enjoyed it, but I don't quite rate it story-rich.

If you want story games or games with good stories, then play everysingle Telltale games beginning with the Sam & Max series, they are a real adventure. Play Arcanum, Warcraft 3, Starcraft, Final Fantasy Crisis Core, Age of Empires 3, the Command and Conquer Tiberium universe series, Fallout Tactics and Fallout 3 because someone missed those, Deus Ex series, Sonny and Sonny 2, Breach, E.C.H.O.E.S: Operation Stranglehold, Metro 2033, Silent Hill Homecoming and Origins, Dead Space and Dead Rising series, GTA series, Saints Row series , Shadowrun Returns, Darkest Dungeon, XCOM series, Twisted Metal Black, Warhammer 40K Dawn of War games, Max Payne games, The Typing of the Dead Overkill, Fable Legends, these are games with stories I enjoyed and totally recommend them on stories alone but the gameplay are a plus's, there's ofcourse more to suggest but this is all I can remember and yes, before anyone says, my choice in story games can be jank.

Telltale games are good. I would for sure say to play the first episode of The Wolf Among Us and then leave it at that as I felt the rest was a let down. (Skip to the next recommendations if you want to) [I feel maybe there was difficulty or something when it came to finishing the story of TWAU because after the first episode, everything isn't as good and I noticed the names and pics for the chapters that were to come (2 and 3 I believe) had changed.]

Life is Strange is really good.

VA-11 HALL-A is also a good game if you don't mind a game that is more of an interactive story sort of like the Phoenix Wright games.

Batman Arkham City is actually pretty darn good and you do not need to play the prior game.

The Beginners Guide(story) and The Stanley Parable(story/interactions) are good too.

If you don't mind shooters, there are the Borderlands games and The Darkness 2. Both have surprisingly good stories for the FPS genre.

I definitely want to play TWAU! but really? aw, that's disappointing! I'll still give it a try though, and enjoy the first episode at least!

thanks for the other recommendations, I'll definitely play some of them soon! :D

Yeah, like the first episode took me by storm. I loved it. The rest sorta let me down, so it depends what you want. If you want to fully experience it, totally not a bad choice as it is still good overall. I personally just wish I had only the simple treat of ep1 ;p

You're welcome! I hope you have fun and enjoy more video game stories soon!

Good! I am glad you have played them! I extra push the Stanley Parable then. It is a humorous walking simulator and it falls on sale to $2 pretty often :3

Dr. Langeskov, The Tiger... - great narrator voice. And it's free game!
Long Live the Queen - graphic novel with RPG elements - multiple endings.
The Bard's Tale.
Fallout series, especially first isometric ones.
Portal 1 and 2 - for GlaDOS.
Vampire: the Masquereade: Bloodlines - great story if you like World of Darkness.
Wastelands 2 - because Fallout.

Most of Daedalic Entertainment games, like Deponia, The Whispered World, The Night of the Rabbit, Anna's Quest, etc. Also, games like Valiant Hearts, Broken Age, 1979 Revolution: Black Friday, and Bully: Scholarship Edition would be a good idea. They all have a really massive amount of storyline. Just look at my library and you'll find out a lot of good games with storyline. xD

Evil WIthin had a terrible story imo. It was so incoherent that it makes me wonder if they didn't assign an intern high on acid to be in charge of the plot.

I thought the metro series had a pretty decent story (metro 2033, metro last light), same with sleeping dogs and valkyria chronicles
I would recommend sickness, that vn had a superb story but I'm not sure if you like vns

browse through a bit of answers already given and pretty much every thing i could recommend you, so ill say those i didn't saw :

  • the obvious The witchers trilogy (someone surely already told it i suppose)
  • the obvious final fantasy saga, storywise, i prefer FFX FFVII FFVI FFIX FFXIII
  • Muv Luv trilogy (the last i heard only the 2 first were on steam : muv luv extra, and muv luv unlimited. Muv luv alternative
about this, the first muv luv is a basic VN (it made me laugh a lot though, especially the beginning) with a student where your choices wil in the end decide which romance or not youll live. But it is mostly a presentation of all character youll see in muv luv unlimited and alternative wich will reinforce the feeling and deepen your interest in the story. In my personnal opinion the 3rd : alternative really is the best with the most interesting story, would take too long to describe so you may want to read steams reviews :p or even better, make your opinion yourself by playing it :D
