We build this survey to collect information to know what brand of hardware people use to build their PC and why they think that the brand they using is better than others.

Anyone who fixates on "brand", instead of bang for your buck, frankly shouldn't be building PCs at all. The PC I'm on now, for example, is the very first PC I've ever had with an Nvidia card, simply because it was the only thing that met my needs at a particular price point. All the machines before it had AMD cards, but that had nothing to do with being an AMD fanboy. Also, it has a Broadwell-C CPU even though the arch was already previous gen, just because I could get a really good deal on it and I expect it to last until my next machine.

You can prefer one brand to another all you like, and that may even be justified based on history, but at the end of the day, if you're not buying what gives you the best performance at the price you're willing to pay, you're robbing yourself.

i am not fan boy but AMD CPU and GPU are cheaper and I use gigabyte because I found cheap motherboard form them and i use it for long time and update it so far i have this GA-78LMT-USB3 motherboard for 5 year and i just change the CPU and GPU on it and I can play AAA game on this PC.

Which GPU is cheaper right now (I know AMD was traditionally better bang for the buck) depends on the region you live in. For me AMD was cheaper, even with the whole mining craze, but... For some, Nvidia is the only way to go right now. Either way, they're both great sets of cards.

Nonsense. The only people who shouldn't be building PC's are those who don't enjoy it. It's your money to spend any way you want, and if you want to spend more money on PC looks, a company you want to support, or anything else, then go ahead and do it. Saving money, although it's useful, shouldn't be considered the goal of everything.

Whoops, apparently I forgot to add "in my opinion". Consider that rectified. I'm not going to physically stop people who buy the red expensive case because it'll make the CPU run faster. (The red ones are faster -- ask any ork.) I just think they're fools.

I understood it's your opinion, I just don't agree with it. You take the utilitarian view, and while I understand it, I don't think it's the only valid view (in fact, it's the more boring one). People who buy a red case don't do that because it makes the PC faster, but because it makes it look better (in their opinion), and I see no problem with people paying more for something that looks better.

I have built an intel system in 2015. But today I'd use AMD. Tricky.

Still cheaper then Intel, or at least it was for me, but that could just be Canadian pricing. Skipped on upgrading my old PC to an i5 because LGA 1150 was ending up insanely overpriced everywhere I looked, would have run me like $400 for a cpu. Then looking at newer models, I was able to get an R5 1500X about $80 cheaper then a non K Intel comparison, so it was a win. got a cheap MSI B350M Gaming Pro mobo, so I'll be able to overclock the Ryzen if needed, though odds are I will upgrade to the 1600 or 1700 before that time comes. Simply got the 1500X because it was cheaper then the 1400 at the time, and I wanted to invest some extra cash in a good case and fans.

the thing that Intel fan boy don't understand that with AMD we pay less and get ultra on game and it cheap to update the system too but with Intel you pay a lot to get ultra with "good benchmark " and they pay a lot to update that lol . the only dif between AMD and Intel is benchmark and price .

and the new DX 12 is bad news for Intel users and a win for AMD users .

I don't have anything against Intel it is good CPU but too much money we need to spend on it and I don't like that part . when I can build a pc with 1500 and play game on ultra or very high why I pay 3000 to the same thing ?

DX12 has proven better for AMD lately yah, but I still don't look at DX12 as an improvement in gaming. What we really need is for Vulkan to become the norm right now, it would help both Nvidia and AMD users a lot, while giving us the freedom to finally escape Windows exclusive gaming.

As for Intel, I despise them, but... I'm not going to get into that rant.

DX12 make CPU and GPU works easier so that they don't work on one core only that kinda we need for gaming this days . we cant get everything cheap that to bad.. even games are exclusive this days and we need to understand that they need to pay their workers that why the price is high .

I would just like to point out that ATI was bought by AMD many many moons ago so you should have went with AMD not ATI in the GPU section. That said I will take Intel and Nvidia over AMD any day of the week, no matter how much shit they pull of because unlike with AMD their stuff actually works like it is supposed to.

AMD works perfect for me. Has for awhile. I've only ever had one issue with AMD, and it was back when it was still ATI. The 9250 (think that was it, could be wrong) wouldn't play Titan Quest, tons of graphical bugs. Only issue I've ever had.

I had issues with 5 out of 5 AMD cards I had the pleasure of using. The one that still pisses me off the most is my laptops GPU where the only working drivers for it are third party Linux drivers. Neither first party Windows(bluescreen loops are fun) nor Linux(doesn't even install) ones work.

That has to be the worst luck ever, lol. Sorry to hear that man. As for laptops, I don't use them, but that is one case I think I'd skip on AMD.

Yep T.T Thankfully no such issues on the green side of things. And yea when this laptop finally decides to die (nearing it 6th year of life) I am just buying something without a dedicated graphic card at all and call it a day. I do all my gaming on my desktop anyways.

you know that msi and xfx and others are making the AMD cards right ?? and they might F up some part not the AMD it self ?

Well if we want to be specific AMD makes GPUs and the other companies make the graphic cards themselves which of course use AMD GPUs (and as far as I know AMD makes/used to make graphic cards too). Considering 3 out of those 5 were in laptops I think it is pretty safe to say it is AMDs fault, especially when it comes to driver problems. For the other 2 it might as well be Asus/Gigabytes fault but I got enough bad experience with AMD already that I really don't care at this point anymore.

laptop are not for gaming even when they say it is gaming laptop because people who build them don't know what to use I bought 3 gaming lap top 2 AMD and one Intel all of them were bad so. as of been bad NVidia had bad graphic card too that they had to patch in order for gamers to be able to play games . some part are the Dev's problem they make a game that support NVidia and they put NVidia drive there that it cant read by AMD card . it is not AMD fault that NVidia don't want to cooperate and build something that it can work with AMD.

I don't understand how basically any of this is relevant and some of it doesn't even make any sense.

basically I am saying that what you said it not true because all the problem is coming from NVidia and the game that support NVidia not AMD.

I used a lot of brands you didn't have in your survey.
ASRock Mobo
GeIL RAM
Deepcool Cooler
Not the most common choices but I think they came together looking pretty good.

There was the option to type in brands. I put in Deepcool, I've got the White TF120 case fans. They look great with my cases RGB LED's, the white changes colour with it.

Building a computer is simple. Decide on a budget, then check what parts have the best performance for the price you can pay for them. Put the money where it matters: extra ram, good cpu, SSD drive, PSU. Save money if you need to where it doesn't matter: motherboard, case, optical drive, accessories.

At no point does brand itself factor into those equations. Your needs will most often determine the brand, since it will determine which models end up in the top of the performance chart for the price you're willing to pay.

Unless you're an elite level gamer or edit video or such things you don't need to put more thought into it than that.

it is easy for me and you but for people who doing it for first time is hard to get In to this . it take time to learn what parts are work good with each other .

Personally I try to time my builds to support AMD, but it's not always possible. My last upgrade was a Pentium G4560 plus Radeon RX 460. Next one (another PC) will likely be Raven Ridge. My laptop (Dell XPS 13) has an Intel CPU, but I might upgrade to a Raven Ridge one if it turns out good and will be available in the form factor I want.
