look up exercises called the plank and back arch, there are many exercises for the back but those 2 are wonders for the lower back when it "goes out". its seems fucked up but when you hurt yourself stretching, keep it moving. bed rest is your enemy, as muscles and tenants heal they produce scare tissue that further inhibits movement and you got to keep them moving in order to speed up healing time and reduce pain by inducing pain. dont push too hard, but dont let them become hard.
but then again this is medical advice being given after a few seconds of inquiry from said sufferer. my advice is no more valid then "dr" oz or "dr" phill.
