Because people care about... stuff in general. If you don't like it move along and take your pointless comments with you. This forum is here to discuss things so I don't see what is the problem.

I'm fine with cards and badges but if they wanted to promote trading we shouldn't be able to sell them, just trade. But I guess it would create a side market. Or they could drop without limits as long as you play the game but they would be non-tradable (killing the "trading card" thing, just cards)

The thing I hate about cards are those 1:2 traders. Literally every trading subforum is filled with these people, and it's very hard to do 1:1, even if we talk about the same f*cking set. I know everyone's trying to make profit, but this is just annoying as hell.

Lots of decent traders here who normally allow 1:1 trades on same sets (myself included). Much better than the community discussions under the games itself - because like you said, tons only want 1:2 trades.
The bot will also help you out a TON.

First: old article. And second: I don't know the big deal about feeling lesser for a collectible costing more than the game. It's natural that in time the rarity/sales of collectibles will decrease and so will the prices.
Also a percentage of the sale of a trading card, emoticon or background goes to the developer as well. So, it's a win-win situation.

The article is pretty old and nowadays cards aren't worth nearly as much as they used to be during the beta. No idea why it's so bad if people buy your game for the cards only anyway. There won't be more or less people buying it not for the cards, so it doesn't matter. If it hurts your ego that you get cash for the 'wrong' reasons you should maybe release your games as freeware.
I agree about the addiction though, I think it's pretty mad what some people pay. That's true for all the digital goods though, whether it's WoW items, Dota 2 items, CS:GO skins, trading cards or anything else that doesn't have any real value. Pretty sure there are quite a lot of people who buy a silly CS:GO knife for $100+ even though they hardly have enough money to pay the rent.
Personally I like trading cards. I always at least try the games I get cards from. If I don't like a game I may end up 'farming' the cards (idling to get the card drops), but I never install a game only for the card drops. I sell the more expensive cards on the market and use the less expensive ones on Steamtrades - you can get a bundle game there for 5-10 cards.

When I first heard about Trading Cards, I was thinking about something like Pokemon cards, and we could fight with each other. At first I was disappointed due high expectation(really really high). But free money so who cares.
Just collected enough to get Beat Hazard badge.
Now I only use then to trade for bundle games.
If it's more compelling to buy a game that has cards? For me I think not. I rather have Steam achievements than cards.

I keep a notebook and write down the current prices of all the cards for games that I have and the booster pack price. I've noticed that prices go up and down on some games. When they are new or when an older game first gets trading cards the prices are very high but then go down. But sometimes go back up again. It's kind of like a mini stock market.

Here's an interesting article
Just a little poll, I'm curious :)
What's your opinion on trading cards?
Do you collect them? Or you're just farming cards from games without playing them and selling them for profit?
Is a game with trading cards more compelling for you?
Do you think the whole trading card thing should be scrapped and cards/badges are silly?
