Should the $100 register value be increased?
I had quite some trouble getting to the $100,- limit myself. Since many of the games I bought full price on steam were bundled before.
So raising it will be quit unfair imho.

Regarding this I reckon we can raise it but you need to submit a receipt that came from steam regarding when it was bought and when it was bundled... but this may be a problem cause making a log and all that would be a hassle, although I think their already basically doing it to the games that are already in the not included list.

Not gonna happen, for the same reasons you can't submit a ticket to prove you have a steam gift rather than a bundle key. Too much work.

It's an interesting question, and I wish I knew the answer, but, I don't think there is a right answer. Too low means too many leechers and alt accounts, too high, and it's unfair for people who don't have a lot of money. Theoretically, we could start experimenting with different levels, but, from a more practical perspective, it's probably best to leave as is

Better turn off registration during (free) weekends, or raise the amount during this time to a 'save' level.

Oh, did not know that. Thought they could just stay.

What about roommates? I have one. We share the same IP and both have Steam. I imagine families with multiple kids and/or gaming parents would also be flagged as the same IP. What about people in dorms at a university or sororities and frats? People in half-way houses, etc =-/

If two people have an account in a half way house then the two halves added together is still just one account...

Well at least one user came out and told us himself.

So I've heard we are comparing our dick's sizes here?

Well, depends. My account doesn't reach it with sale prices. Heck, that one barely goes above 700: https://steamdb.info/calculator/76561198042831386/?cc=us

Very few people on Steam give a single shit about trading cards, and you cannot really get to level 9 or higher without them. Unless you buy games and have a library of 5000, which, again, not all users are mindless hoarders. Some have a small library they actually play (as alien this concept may sound around here.)

I've had a steam account for several years and haven't reached $1,000 yet according to the calculator. I also don't care much about the steam level so it's still under 20. I have something like 300+ steam games, 300+ GoG games, and a bunch of consoles and games. I was looking for something to do with my duplicate bundle games and stumbled on this site.

Literally half of Steam is excluded from the calculation, so it is relatively difficult to get in here; you can have 3000 games on your account and still return $0.00 when the site calculates their value. Which is just ridiculous. So it's fine or too high even.

I was surprised when I joined as well, but then i realised how many games I bought on sales when a) Steam had good sales (good, ancient times) and b) bundles were mostly limited to some obscure sites. But I have seen people complaining on my wall about not having enough value, and they had decent enough libraries, but to their bad luck, most of them were added to the bundle list eventually. And many of those are AAA games.

I'd like to think that the current threshold is enough to prevent people abusing the system as the cost of getting a permanent suspension is pretty high. Low level accounts can't really farm giveaways abusively since the win rate is so low anyway, and if they don't activate them they will get detected and suspended through regular measures very quickly. To actively abuse the system you'd need an army of low level accounts entering and winning games of value to trade/resell - something that the $100 limit should efficiently prevent already, since whichever account abuses the system will get found and suspended on a regular basis. Most likely you'll be unable to profit because of this.

Not really. The 100 dollars limit is enough. Some people manage to cheat their way through and register, probably by buying games and then asking for a refund. Still, the 100 dollars limit is already too much. Not everyone has plenty of money to afford buying games, so I'm totally against this suggestion. :/

I think the real question is why does it need to be raised? If you can't answer that question there is no need to pose the first one.

i would raise it to have less people in giveaways and increase my chance of winning :3
anyway, i don't think increasing the account value goes well with what sg is supposed to be. the requirement is to prevent an easy way to register alt accounts, not to have only "rich" people here.
besides, which would be the new requirement, $150, $200, $1000?
set it too low and it will be the same, too high will prevent people without much money to spend on their account from registering here.

Have more than one account it's actually easy and cheap.
I wouldn't be surprised if someone has 5 accounts and abuse the cv system with them.
Anyway, increasing the "100$" isn't that good for legit people.

Mmh, not sure about rising the $100 minimum, it may turn this site into an elitist community.
I would just aply the same rules that are in place for CV: unbundled = 100% of value, bundled = 15% of value and free = 0%.
Then you can increase the minumum without too much of an impact.

Well, back when I joined SG I had a pretty modest account mostly comprised of bundled games and somehow I made it through the registration.
Haven't really been up to how difficult or not joining became since then, so from my perspective everything has been the same always. I also noticed those suspiciously secondary account looking user, so I assumed the registration wasn't that hard of a hurdle to jump.

Yes. I'm kind of shocked that's it not this way already.

Too easy to get $100, i had a friend just grabbing random games here and there for free and managed to make an account xD

It was much easier to register a few years ago, when I first joined the site, as bundles were pretty rare, we didn't have RU+CIS bundling -75% discounted games, and so on.
Now with all of that crap I say that $100 is more than enough. It shouldn't really be changed.

As we all know, to register a new Steam Gifts account, a minimum value of $100 of unbundled, non-free games is needed.
But we can see that there're still a lot of them, so I made a comment on the forum about raising it a bit, and it sparkled quite some attention, so I thought about making a poll out of it.
What do Steam Gifters think? Should the limit be raised? And if so, by how much?
Feel free to leave a comment, if you have any suggestion, or constructive criticism.
