As we all know, to register a new Steam Gifts account, a minimum value of $100 of unbundled, non-free games is needed.

We have this requirement in place to prevent users from registering multiple accounts.

But we can see that there're still a lot of them, so I made a comment on the forum about raising it a bit, and it sparkled quite some attention, so I thought about making a poll out of it.

What do Steam Gifters think? Should the limit be raised? And if so, by how much?

Should the $100 register value be increased?

Yes, it's a needed evil
No, leave it as it's now

so what? make 1000 alt accounts, wtf are they going to do when you set your GAs to lvl 4? personally i think its not wise to do lvl 0-1 GAs. unfortunately many GAs for some top games are being made at lvl 0, so fail

so every giveaway should be lvl 4+? good idea. new members will have a lot of fun here and stay on the site - not.

well you can cherry pick what you like to make your argument valid, but i did say "personally i think its not wise to do lvl 0-1 GAs." i prefer a give and take system, not take take take, if "new members" expect to win a bunch of games and not give any i dont think the site will miss them. or hell, lets just continue to make lvl 0 giveaways and feed the fakes, perrrrrrrrrrfect plan ^^

This feels very much like a "Since I'm already in, lets raise the bar so that I have better odds at winning."

It seems to me that there are already measures in place to achieve that very thing, thats why the levels and leveled giveaways exist no?
You want to get better odds? You invest in a few giveaways so you can enter the level 1/2/3 or higher requirements.
Or alternately you engage with some of the groups etc so you can get into the group or whitelisted ones.

Raising the $100 requirement isn't really going to achieve much for anyone.

Seems selfish to raise it imo, the point is to give away. They should just up security on alts.

so the only problem are people who use free weekends to get access, right? bundle or free games don't count anyway. so the only boost they can achieve is with the free weekends, and that's only temporary. so the logical solution would be to check user account values on a regular basis. for instance every time they login. or every time their account gets synchronized.

i remember i already said this once, and there was a good argument against it. just can't recall what that was. probably that people who registered without cheating might get problems when the games on their account lose value over time.

And... I gained two three more blacklists since making this thread...
After two whole days without them I started to worry...
Now I'm relieved...

I'm curious why this page - https://www.steamgifts.com/stats/personal/steam shows only full account value. I am interested in what SG were to calculate my account value if I were to try join today.

I think the limit is fine.
I just wonder if people are able to cheat their way in on the back of price glitches such as the recurring "every Daedalic game is $100" one, or "hey, there's free weekends for titles that add up to $100+ combined".

No, the entire Daedalic pack that is affected by the 100-dollar glitch is on the bundle list, therefore counts as zero when registering.

Maybe a combination of non-bundled games on the account in combination steam level or something?

When i registered i was a leech, (still) all games i had were given away in other sources. So i belive they count but not full price.

Hmm, I have mixed feelings about upping the $100 requirement. It would be nice if it was raised to help avoid leeches, but even then, people will find ways. For example, people may use a pre-existing account to make trades, rip people off, and use the traded items they received on their alt account until they can sign up. So it might help, but it also might worsen it.

I've actually always thought they should do an IP limitation. Maybe two accounts per IP, then block the IP from creating another account? Two is a fair number, and it allows one to have family members use the site, such as a sibling, or in my case, my wife. And at most, leeches could have one extra account, rather than dozens.

Only Donald Trump could enter while everyone without an Steam Account that is less then $1,000,000,000,000 Worth shall be barred off.
Sarcasm
I just say leave it as is since there is a hefty amount of gifters on this website. Makes giveaways more exciting when your just 1 out of 10,000 entries for one game.

Raising the bar would probably cut back on the lesser levels and only those with money to throw about would do as they please with their giveaways with restrictions only letting a select few he deems worthy to apply for.
