As you can see, I have made a non-CV giveaway for RPG Maker VX Ace that will end in late November-- it is available only to members of this group which is currently empty.

How will we fill this group?

As the title alludes, any wishing to join should propose a videogame of their own! Specifically, a design that can be created with the prize at hand, RPG Maker VX Ace. Your proposal may take any shape you wish and can be any length, but it must be posted here in this thread. Any idea deemed worthy will receive a group invite.

Acceptance is completely at my discretion and current state of intoxication. I'll be looking for legibility, well-defined goals, and some sense of how you will implement your grand ideas. I reserve the right to be picky-as-a-mofo, because I intend to keep the overall number of entries relatively low. This is a free opportunity to bounce some creative ideas off of your digital peers, and we will all get to observe the progress and product of our winner.

I'll be dropping some small, private GA links along the way for giggles. I hope you find the event intriguing and entertaining, good luck! ^__^

I was thinking about a possible journey through the subconscious of a gamer. Specifically, you'd journey through different parts of their mind which represent different stages of gaming for them, and fight characters which "resemble" famous mascots in gaming. You'd encounter a lot of gaming-centric things like glitches and "DLC", which acts as kind of obstacles aside from the enemies you'd have to fight.

All the while you could be finding out more about the main character and the type of gamer he is today, and how gaming affected his life positively/negatively in different places.

And then in the ending, you'd find out that it was all just a game...bombshock.

I'll respond here since i deleted one of the two posts that i mistakenly sent: as far as i know, the UDK works best when used in conjunction with other programs that require extra skills i don't own, plus i don't know absolutely nothing about programming.

Also, i've read lots of reviews about RPG Maker VX praising the easy to use interface and support by the community, who provided tons of tutorials and extra stuff.

I was considering buying RPG Maker VX so i could start my way into game developing by practicing with a simple tool before eventually getting on something more complex. Initially i was thinking about creating an RPG version of the first Deus Ex so i could focus more with technical aspects of the developing stage than writing a story and a script.

An original idea that came up on my mind months ago was about a guy that gets in a coma and starts dreaming, with levels being set in his memories, his psyche and fake memories created by a part of his own mind that wants to screw up the situation even more.

I lkie the idea, but you don't actually dream in a comatose state...

Huh... That would be... depressing...

My "idea" is somewhat similar, that's why I'm also concerned is it possible to dream in comastate. I spent like 5 minutes in google (it was exhausting if you ask me) and I found that, there is no simple answer to this question.

Some people claims that it is not possible and other say that they were indeed dreaming. I even found this article "Altered States Or In A Coma- You Still Dream, Says Study" on some scientific blog… as the title says dreams in coma are possible. "It also appeared that these patients produced NREM (non rapid eye movement) slow wave sleep and REM (rapid eye movement) sleep, which is the support for dream activity."

I think that it is safe to use this idea….

Rainbowblitz would you be so kind to tell us on what basis your statement was made? Are you like student of medicine? Or did you read it somewhere on the internet? I would be very grateful for answear.

Still… it would be depressing if it was true… I mean we would have to change a lil'bit our ideas.

I support this idea 100%! I will always back things that increase the number of game makers out there. You never know who is going to make the next big thing.

I still want to make an RPG that slowly transitions to a foreign language as you play, so that all those hours spent in the game aren't just wasted. Although, something like that might not be suited to RPG Maker, especially if I want logogram drawing incorporated (eg, for teaching CJK).

Basically, my idea is you wake up on a deserted island. You are forced to try to gather food. You go to a part of a beach, and you find a small ship. It is a broken ship, and you are forced to fix it. You gather parts, and go to a nearby island because your ship is sinking. There, you try to find parts. You find natives, and you can gather them as crew. You eventually build a ship. The ship you build can be crafted using different parts. You then become a pirate.

Obviously a rogue-like, with pixel art graphics, and punishing Dark-Souls like mechanics. Somehow anime will tie into it. Music will alternate between retro chiptunes and dubstep. Player will pick their own gender, as well as the genders of any and all love interests, and there will be an overarching anti-war theme. Rogue... Souls. Dark like. The game. The movie. The artbook the game. Based on a true story.

Because of a previous giveaway for RPG Maker, me and another user were chatting about an idea.

A Day In The Life Of Bobofatt
With dealing with such trials as Support Tickets everywhere (the random encounters), for beggars, scammers, regifters, rerolls, flames from the banhammered users, etc. I also wanted to include certain well known members for being in Forum Village or being boss fights, but some of that could come under calling out, so...

Jade would be a cranky old hermit far away from other people though. I'm sure he would love that.

I'd hopefully be able to find custom sprites for a Megaman character for the game, and I imagine the Banhammer could either be his most powerful special attack or a heavily limit item. As a limit item, it could instantly beat whoever it was used on. As a move, it would be used as a finisher. Provided I could do it that way.

Leveling up could be "You won a giveaway". :P

Well of course I'd make rpgs of movies/tv shows too, but that is not original. So here are two of my ideas:

1.Your character is a medicine made to cure different mental illnesses and phobias. Each stage represents an illness or phobia and has something characteristic of that illness or phobia. Once you solved the stage, you've cured that illness. However later in the game, cross-over levels will appear where two (or maybe more) illnesses are mixed together.

2.A mostly historically accurate about the time when the Americas were being explored and settled. You would either play as an explorer and face challenges of survival and hostile Natives or play as a settler of one of the original colonies and experience events such as Bacon's rebellion and other historic events.

I have more, but don't want to make this boring/too long.
Thanks for doing this!

Excellent.

I'm currently studying GD, doing a course on programming and considering a ton of options. Have a project that I'll probably develop on AGS, but I was very close to buy RPG Maker and a bit closer, to GameMaker. There is one project in particular that I liked for RPG Maker, and I'll describe it here, though I have to post only the introduction, since posting the whole plot is too risky.

Story

I wanted to develop a small experimental game about a mailman (or mailwoman?), that works on a very special mailing company, and find himself/herself with the lives of other peoples. The twist is that this plot is set in the current times, where no one mails to each other. So somehow, this mailing company manages to mostly get very personal mails. The how is why is hidden yet, and the lives affected and how it develops, it's part of the rest of the plot.

I think it might be a very nice experiment, and it will be very "bright" game with very "dark" stories, such as is life. RPG Maker could be an ideal complement to make a game like this :D

Think of it a To The Moon, but with not-that-linear gameplay.

Man I like your idea. I've never made music for a game but have the start of a home studio set up. If you want a sample track give me a mood/soundscape to base it off of and I'll whip something up. I've got guitars, keyboards, synths, you name it. I'm eventually going to make my own game but am currently studying game engine architecture and would love to assist in/compose a soundtrack in the mean time. [probably my second career choice] I'm working two jobs right now to bank some money but I'm sure we could work something out. If you win let me know.

An apocalyptic sim: No main story, no crazy plot twist, no ridiculousness(Outside of the cause for the apocalypse).
Open, randomly generated(ish) world, in which you can:

  1. Build your own base and protect it.
  2. Find and interact with other survivors (NPC's and Players)
  3. Loot anything available, and create nearly any item you can imagine.

This is just a very general overview, that I may change if I am required to. If you want any additional information (anyone, not just the OP) just let me know here or on steam.

RPG Maker wouldn't be very well suited for your idea, unfortunately. It forces you to make maps and events. No random generator for those items.

A Time Travel RPG...

You are a happy normal person in 2120... and that's when things go wrong. Scientist have been trying to find a way to time travel, but it hasn't been easy, that's when you propose something new. When you test your method, things go wrong and you are sucked into the void, and you meet the God of Time. He isn't particularly happy for seeing you, and tells you that you should not mess with time and as a punishment he sends your closest friends and family back and forward in time and it's your job to get them all back.

You would have to solve mini puzzles, and use the things you know from your time to solve the riddles in the future/past. As you level up, you get the ability to travel further in time. Each time you time travel, you would have to fight mini bosses related to that period of time, creating time paradoxes or not. (Let's say you kill... Hitler... what would then happen?) The God of Time would be the final boss and after the fight the gateway to time travel would be forever closed.

It would be cool that whatever you do in the past, affects the future... it's doable with RPG Maker, just requires a bit extra work.

My idea would be for a Steamgifts based game, loosely based on the Wizard of Oz. Intrepid users would be embroiled in an epic quest to reach cg at the Emerald City, in order to discover the secrets of the universe, and perhaps become endowed with some desirable trait, or hitherto absent organ. A fountain of endless Fortices may also be involved.

Without wishing to call anyone out personally, I envisage that this quest might be aided or hindered by a selection of NPCs, drawn from the good, the bad and the ugly of the Steamgifts community. Chaos, controversy, and the occasional "Thanks for Skyrim" would undoubtedly ensue.

Not sure how readily RPG Maker VX Ace supports additional DLC, but I have high hopes for an "me too, me too" zombie mod, along with a plethora of overpriced skins and weaponry.

I truly hope we can make this happen :)
