Count your life by smiles, not tears. Count your age by friends, not years. Happy birthday chiris!

Happy birthday!
Sounds like you had quite the experience, they'll definitely make for some great stories to tell. It's awesome that you got to experience so many different people and places. Neat photos as well, especially love the way the sun's reflecting. As much as I get sick of winter because we experience snow for half the year, it really is beautiful and would miss it. :) Thanks for sharing both the train and your stories with us, was interesting!

Okay, had I chance to read it now. That's really cool that you were working on a rally team. Were you just working on the cars as support for the team, or did you do any racing or riding along with the racers yourself? And how did you end up working for a rally team in the first place? In either case, it sounds like a really special, if really stressful, experience.
Good luck with the thesis!

I worked on cars. Back at our HQ I also helped with actual building of the cars, but at a rally I mostly assisted lead mechanic as its fast paced work and I just didnt have the experience yet to keep leveled head while the clock is ticking down. Its usually 30 to 40 minutes time for service. Car comes in and in that time it has to be checked thoroughly and whats broken has to be changed.
I got to drive the car around as well. But on roads mostly or in our parking lot. No stage racing of course - thats expensive. Our boss wanted to take part in one of stages in our country and let every member of the team take part in the stage with the rally car but sadly that didnt happen due to plan changes :(
I loved rally since I was kid and dreamed of racing myself. Figured that working as a mechanic would be a good first step towards my dream, but that felt impossible as well. When the internship was coming I just started writing every rally team in my country asking for a place with them. Mostly everyone refused or didnt answer, but this team called me a day or two before I had to confirm my place of internship. Enormous stroke of luck if you ask me, but Im glad I wrote everyone instead of thinking its impossible and settle on working in a simple car service.
Thanks :)

Not really. I got me first degree in IT but didnt stick with that neither.
Worked summers as helper. Saw some stuff but nothing much. Then I rebuilt engine of my car alone in my garage. Along that i rebuilt brakes and some stuff in suspension. So I had some basic knowledge around my own car. But still lacking for independant working.

Its relatively old car so it was simpler and it helped a lot that my uncle had rebuilt several cars in his youth and he has machining shop so he could fabricate some special instruments or if Im missing something. So got some help from him as well though did most of it myself by reading service manual :D

.... and yesterday I handed in my Bachelors thesis. Had a rough half a year writing it, but on to that in a bit.
Results are in - I got a 9 in my thesis work. super psyched about it. On 21st I have graduation and officially am an engineer :D
Thank you all for the wishes who I didnt answer directly as well :) Appreciated
Turning 24 today. Sadly I wont be celebrating today as I had to move away from my hometown so everyone is back there, but Im happy to create a train as well, as I havent made a post or GA for some time.
Regarding the bachelors theses - I started to write it and when a month had passed it turned out to be not that thorough as I wanted and didnt really meet the criteria. So I had to change what I wrote about. Had less time and it was bit more stressful to come up with something else. In the end I wrote about horizontal road markings. Basically research on road safety regarding the markings. Handed it in yesterday and now its waiting game. I have to present it in front of jury now on June 10.
And the train ends on 10 of June as well.
The train goes on here, but further I write about my awesome experience in my internship/workplace. . Hope you find something for you on the train and find my little story interesting as well. Looking forward to discuss stuff if anyones interested. You can ask about rally as well if your interested and Id be glad to answer
Year started interesting - started an internship in rally racing team. We built Ford Fiesta rally cars and rented them for people. Met some interesting clients from all around the world - Japanese, Indians, Taiwanese, British, French.. Had a chance to go to Germany, Poland several times, Lithuania. Most exciting was a trip to Finland. We went to Lapland rally. Its beyond the polar circle (my first time going that far to north). Had constant -30 degrees celsius. Spent half an hour in the middle of night, in the middle of forest road with broken down car in -30 degrees. But I loved it and would love to go back again.
We went through Estonia there. We had a ferry to board in an early morning so we went in the evening and the plan was to spend the night in a hotel. It was 1 o`clock in the night. Google Maps lead us into some forest road and it ended going onto field. We got stuck with van that had the rally car on trailer. we fucked around for an hour and a half until we got everything unstuck. Had some 4 hours to sleep with 2 hour ferry ride, breakfast and full days drive through snowy Finland.
It was not just extreme for us but it was extreme for the car as well. It was our teams first experience with rally in such conditions. Car didnt work for most part, kept broking down and our lead mechanic kept working on it to try to fix it fully. In the end it worked great and we learned a lot and will know what to expect in the future when dealing with such conditions.
Sadly didnt stay with them due to lack of work as Rally after all is a pass time for rich people mostly. I still have contacts and I hope my ways will cross with them as rally is my passion but Im still excited about the time with them so wanted to share it here :)
Added some pictures. from top to bottom :
first is taken at service park that is in the middle of stages. The team has to go to designated place to fix the car. It was some 100 km from the actual service park where is all our stuff and its in open air. Embracing all the nature.
second picture is the place where we fueled the car (again in the middle of forest in the middle of stages)
third is the actual service park. Everyone is working on their cars shoulder to shoulder. With warm and colds drinks, some warm air being pumped in the tent and food.
forth is on the road to Lapland. Beautiful country and beautiful roads.
Reuploaded pics, hope they work now ;)
PS. Those who play Dirt Rally or Dirt 4 (any Dirt for that matter) or even Grid games feel free to add me on steam if you want to. I like comparing my times in racing games :)
