And so it begins again. I have had my interest, AKA nosiness, piqued.

What are your top FIVE favorite video games you have ever played? On any platform. Any console. Any service.

I'd have to say mine are -
1- Faxanadu - NES
2- Giga Wing 2 - Dreamcast
3- Skies of Arcadia - Dreamcast/Gamecube
4- Wizardry 8 - PC (played before I heard about steam)
5- Elder Scrolls 3 Morrowind - PC(played before I heard about steam)

A couple of honorable mentions-
Gaiaopilis - arcade (remember arcades?)
Sky Shark - NES
Golden Axe Warrior - Sega Master System
Guild Wars (original through Eye of the North). I guess my almost 8K hours means that I liked the game :P That and I was a closed beta tester for the original. God I hated the change of tabards to capes.

So, what are your top five games?

Small GA for y'all as well.

Also, a quick jigidi that ends on Halloween night.

  • FTL - PC
  • Minecraft - PC

These are in no particular order. A lot of newer games have overtaken old favorites.

I like it that honorable mentions are allowed so that we don't really have to limit ourselves to 5 games :) So, in no particular order:

  • The Cat Lady
  • Grim Fandango
  • Gabriel Knight: The Beast Within
  • Disco Elysium
  • Planescape: Torment

And some others (I'll try to keep it short):

  • The Longest Journey (not to be confused with sequels)
  • Kentucky Route Zero
  • Hellblade: Senua's Sacrifice
  • Oxenfree
  • Fran Bow
  • Unavowed
  • The Witcher 3 (yep)
  • Brothers: A Tale of Two Sons
  • Night in the Woods
  • Blade Runner
  • Shannara
  • Sanitarium
  • Downfall
  • Neverhood
  • Spec Ops: The Line

(guilty, I'm never actually able to keep it short)

For me they would be Doom, Super Mario World, Command & Conquer: Red Alert, Baldur's Gate 2 and Mega Man X. Those are not in order, as the order changes depending on my mood.

This was way harder than I thought.

  1. Fable FFXIV
  2. Diablo II FFXIV
  3. LoZ: Ocarina of Time (I'll keep it at 1 LoZ because they would take the rest of the list) FFXIV
  4. Bioshock FFXIV
  5. Final Fantasy VI FFXIV

  1. Deer Avenger 4 (A Deer with a shotgun that hunts hunters? He farts and that is like nitrous boost? Avenging his deAr wife? Amazing!)

  2. Bad Day L.A. (Great fun, while I began playing it i played it non-stop and finished it for 2 days. The drawing style and animations, humour and fun, relaxing gameplay, kept me going and made this one of my top games.)

  3. The Crew 2 - I have played tens, maybe a hundred racing games, and this game delivers the ultimate best car feel. You have pro settings and can tune a car's handling how you like (as GRID made a small revolution in that regard). You have tuning and community made liveries to respect real-life cars or do some crazy designer stuff. I just love it and it is my most favourite racing game.

  4. Rainbow Six Siege - played it on 3 free weekends over the years when finally decided to buy it. They keep updating it and keeps getting better. For 4 years, matchmaking and many things are still in Beta. There are countless bugs, which rarely repeat, which makes so goofy that you curse with a smile... Love the graphics, tactics, and how weapons shoot, without too many crazy physics, but just basic recoil.

  5. Rollcage - this game hooked me on racing after Need For Speed: Underground. It was mega fun that you could continue racing without losing speed even after flipping your car over! At the time it was crazy and new and engaging! Let's add Burnout 2: Point of Impact to that list - I mean the crashes in the game were so fun!

I can continue to write hours on end but since it's about 5 games, those are some of my top 30, regardless of order. I wrote about these as they were inovative and broadened my horizons, at least in the video-game world.

Nice topic OP!

Oh wow I never thought of what games could be my favourite before. I won't do it in order and I'm sure I'll probably miss stuff because all thats coming up right now is back to my childhood

  • Final fantasy 10
  • Fable 3
  • Heavy rain.
  • Spyro

That was kinda hard since I wanted actual games and not just going for my stories. Games that were stuck in my head just don't seem worthy anymore like viva pinata. I love it, I got the xbox classic disc because of just that but actually playing it now it stressed me out. I'm not care free anymore everything has to be perfect.

Final fantasy 10 has always been my favourite, with the remaster combining them and adding in the faster speed and what not is great. Only problem is the actual art, ps2 version was much better
Fable 3 was just a classic for me as a child. I absolutely loved it and wish I had it now, sadly its not on steam anymore
Spyro just became loved by me after seeing the 3rd game played. It took me many years but I finally played it and now own them on playstation and steam
Heavy rain was a hard choice for me. Like above viva pinata was gonna be there until I remembered yeah it cant be played anymore by me. Heavy rain though is just an instant win in my book, I got a ps3 just for that game for a reason

For now I'm leaving it at 4. I might come back and update who knows. I had trouble and while I can think of some amazing games like catherine I also don't believe they are top 5 worthy

Street Fighter 2 Arcade - First proper multiplayer competitive game i got into. Blew a whole load of coins into those machines.
Baldur's Gate 2 - RPG classic. Killing Kangaxx with as low level characters as possible was fun :)
World of Warcraft - This game probably took up more game time than all my other video games put together.
Tetris - Gameboy A game you could play all day and even more fun when playing against someone else.
Borderlands 2 - Great co-op shooter with a real emphasis on fun.

Deus Ex series, Fallout 2 in particular from the fallout series + Elder Scrolls series (Morrowind and Skyrim) are also very close to the top 5 and are worth a mention.

Mario Kart for me would be right up there but single player was not great imo. Co-op was where the action was and i remember pulling all nighters in University days.

I am sure there are many more classics that i could come up with and apologies for any true classics i forgot to mention.

In no particular order:

  • Mirror's Edge

(wasn't expecting that none of the games I played growing up made it into the current list)

  • Faerie Solitaire Remastered (the original is good too but I like the remaster better)
  • Sunset Overdrive
  • Rise of the Tomb Raider

  1. Final Fantasy 6 (SNES version. The only pixel art RPG to ever truly engross me in its story.)
  2. Final Fantasy 7 (PS1 version.)
  3. Jak and Daxter 2/3 (PS2 version. The bar by which I judge all other 3D platformers)
  4. Soul Blazer (SNES. Simple combat, but I love the world and music to bits.)
  5. Diddy Kong Racing (N64 version. So much variety, and AI that actually plays fair unlike most racing games)

And here are some misc obscure games I really enjoyed:
Ooga Booga (Dreamcast)
Polarium (Nintendo DS)
JetPack (PC/DOS)
The DIG (PC/DOS)
Mr. Bones (Sega Saturn)
CarnEvil (arcade)
Tail Concerto (PS1)

Maniac Mansion: It was my first game that I play on PC, I have a NES at that time, I play to many times without knowing how to open the door with the code, I didnt have internet or anything in those days, I remeber to buy magazines about games with cheats and walkthrough

Zelda, A Link to the Past (Snes version) that one and Super Metroid take a lot of hours of my life for sure, and Ocarina of Time (N64), for my that two are the best of the saga (Game Cube and GBA games were the last ones I play)

Resident Evil 2 (the original, when I play it was in 640x480 resolution), pay full price an pre.order for the remake, wonderful experience

Assassin Creed 2, I love the saga when I was finishing the first one and say to me "wooow that ending", but I like most the second one (play it all of them)

Batman Arkham Asylum, play it when I upload my first Gaming Pc with a 9500GT graphic card, so amazing batman game (all Arkham serie is great in general)

*sorry for my basic english

Hellblade: Senua's Sacrifice (PC)

I keep holding out hope that Square will dust off Einhander for a PC re-release some day. Longshot, I know. But I can dream, can't I?

I haven't had the opportunity to play any of the Ray games, unfortunately.

Unreal Tournament / Quake(World) (1&2) / Bioshock

  • TES III: Morrowind
  • Star Ocean: The Second Story
  • Freelancer
  • Final Fantasy Tactics

My list could be a lot bigger, and who knows, might replace one or two of those on any given day, but RPG's tend to top my list... Those are games I loved over the years.
