This is really just out of pure curiosity:
Do you have many friends on Steam? Do you interact with them regularly? Are they personal friends in real life or acquired from all over the internet?
Just want to get a broad picture here :)
(Also felt like creating a poll, to be honest. Just because. Random as random can be^^)

EDIT:
Curiosity strikes again. Just want to know how many people actually still read this here, so... have a giveaway! :D

I don't have many friends on Steam. My RL friends mostly either don't play at all or at least not on Steam, so just some of them actually use Steam (where they are my friends for sure). Other Steam friends are from an online forum. Lastly, some are from SG, added them after giveaways.

If I know someone from anywhere (RL, forum, websites where I am active), I accept their friend requests, but I don't see anything in adding people I don't even have contact at all. :)

I have 20. About 10 are friends and family so we chat, though not necessarily on steam as we use other chat apps. The others are moderators in groups or traders that I trade fairly regularly with or regular winners of my GAs. =)

So you know 50% of your Steam friends in real life - that is, thus far, the most impressive ratio, I think :D

I'd say barely one and it is my sister's account that she hardly uses.

About half of my friends list I know from other forum communities. But I've never met them in person.

Pretty much all of my real life friends are console gamers. My Xbox Live friends list used to contain a majority of people I knew in person.

However, I no longer have an Xbox and my friend's aren't switching to PCs anytime soon.

Just a few.

Three of them I know in real life: two are co-workers, one is my sister - who incidentally is also a co-worker :>
A few more are from SteamGifts.

I am 99% of the time offline from the chat, which I use mostly just to deliver gifts, or occasionally talk to my sister via voice chat if we are playing some co-op.

I have 135 atm. Some are friends in real life, some I've met on Steam and actually talk to, some I just trade with regularly, some are just there because I've made a trade with them in the past and the rest are there for random other reasons. The interesting thing though is that I usually play single player games so I've never played a game with any of them. Thinking about getting broforce and changing that though.

Playing Left 4 Dead 2 multiplayer opened up the door to meeting a lot of good people. Very few I interact as most have moved on and rarely log on to Steam. Now some through here on SG and various places. Only few I converse on a regular basis.

I (currently) have 599 Friends on Steam. My giveaways are Steam Gifts, so I send friend requests to anyone that ends up winning a giveaway. I don't remove anyone from my friend-list (I would if they were super-scummy, of course) as they may win a future giveaway of mine and it makes it easier to gift them if they are already a friend. Of course, I've gained quite a few friends that I have contact with (via Steam Chat) this way, so that is always nice.

Out of that total number, I tend to have contact with about 50+ of them on a regular basis. I don't initiate conversations in Chat too often, but I will (try, if I remember) respond to someone that sends a chat my way.

Two of my friends are actually co-workers of mine (a third is a former co-worker from the same place), another is someone I know from the local comic shop (which my friend ((but not Steam friend as he doesn't have a Steam account) owns!), and yet another is someone I know from the local EB Games.

I have a few that I have exchanged Christmas cards with (never got a chance this year, however), and one that I am quite close with (she is quite ill, so there are periods that she is offline, and that always worries me).

I like having friends on Steam, especially since the majority of them I would never have the chance to interact with offline since they live in various parts of the world! People have (correctly, in many cases) slammed Steam/Valve for various things they have done wrong, but if it wasn't for Steam we wouldn't have friends from across the world (we also wouldn't have Steamgifts, so I wouldn't be posting this missive down right now!).

I currently have a friend request pending from Konrad...should I make him friend #600? ;) ;)

Thank you for posting this thread, Felicitality.:)

104 friends. Most of them came from trading. A guy from other nationality has become a real friend after we played ibb&obb together and I was fortunate to meet him in person. That's why I never play co-op games alone because it's a good way to get to know new people. I like my friends :)

457 Steam friends in nearly 13 years on Steam and 3 years on SG.

Some close friends that I interact regularly with, a few trader friends of my passed trading times and a lot of my Steam gift SG winners.

Steam is a good platform when one wants to talk or warn about some of the worst SG things without breaking any SG rules. ^^

I have 20 or so friends on Steam. Most of them are from here and a couple of real life friends and my brothers. I don't really interact with friends on Steam. Although I don't really interact a lot with people in general, so I guess that's about normal for me.

I have about 80 friends there now, had 150, but they were usually some random adds and we barely spoke with each others. about 20 of them are people I know IRL.
I still get random adds, but with my new policy they are getting blocked automatically. I add only those who comment. -> Why adding someone who can't even read?
I speak regularly to about 5 people, not always on Steam though (Whatsapp, Skype etc.).

72, A handful are friends from reality, 40% are from a Steam group I joined(so mostly interact through group chat, though I'm often too busy :s), and the rest are from all the trades and gibs from SG.(In which case It's usually a one time thing.

Four. Including my girlfriend and two RL friends. Another one is a creator of a giveaway I won here. He's from my country and he sometimes posts some interesting stuff (and likes my screenshots :D ) so it doesn't hurt to have him as a friend, but generally I don't add people I don't know irl. Too busy to actually get to know them, and there's no point adding them just for the sake of having more friends.

I keep my friends list low - I'm not interested in just collecting friends - did that on Facebook and ended up with over 5,000 "friends".
I've only got 14 friends - I talk to 5 of them and the other 9 are from games I used to play or from here. :)

352 "friends".
Many I know from SG, but never speak to (maybe 100-200)
A small handful I actively chat to (less than a dozen)
Very few I actually play/speak with and know in real life (3 siblings and sister's boyfriend = 4)

I used to know lots of good, funny people on Steamgifts and actively chatted with, we exchanged jokes and trolled each other, but eventually they left and I never really stayed in touch after that. These days I feel like Steamgifts is way less community-orientated and it's rare I chat or play with anyone, even though my friends list is so full (some people would assume I'm "popular" or some shit - these people would be wrong).
