The first metroidvania game I played was Symphony of the Night and I've loved them since. Great sense of progression and you get to appreciate the level design by revisiting areas. Guacamelee was great too (and the sequel just came out!).

I'm sure I was part of the group, but it seems that I was just following the curator...why doesn't steam just amalgamate these things? Anyway, remedied now, so thank you. Metroidvania's are the pinnacle of gaming!

I'm not really into groups but since I'm really into metroidvanias I followed your curator at least. You might want to check Out There Somewhere, it's probably the cheapest metroid-like on Steam, although it's pretty short.

Quite a big fan of Metroidvanias as well. Also, great first GA. I played through Dex a couple of years ago and loved every minute of it. Not only was the combat and platforming pretty solid, but I also found the story quite engaging and I loved the branching paths several of the quests offered. I even enjoyed the twin-stick shooter hacking segments. All in all, a fun cyberpunk action-RPG.

I took a look on the lists and I didn't find it in the "Not a Metroidvania" list, so I should tell you, Trials of Azra is tagged as metroidvania, but it isn't.

The group's owner, Professor Q, focuses on reviewing Metroidvanias on Steam, but all members of the group are free to discuss or recommend their favourite MV games. I recently became a Moderator in this group and now I am basically compiling a list of every Metroidvania on Steam. My goal is to have a more or less complete list of the games including remarks about their key features, like "XP based/RPG like", "In-game map", or "co-op".
