So I'm not throwing any blame here, but I thought about this a while ago and never thought about it UNTIL my last few giveaways just ended.

One of the winners said the key is duplicated, I'm giving him the benefit of the doubt and emailed Otakumaker about it (Still waiting a reply) .

But what can you do if someone claimed your key is duped, even though you are certain it is not? And how can you if possible catch the perp in the act? And there should be a mean punishment too right?

Edit: All good advice, thanks all for your comments, I'll just leave this up so other people become aware of this matter.
O.GA will come along a little later, I don't feel like it right now.

Report it to support. If it's the first time they can't do anything but if it happens repeatedly they will take actions.

But if it's from one of the Star Sky games from the recent Otakumaker Bundle there were reports of the dev handing out used keys so your winner is probably innocent.

Hmm, I guess not. But that is a shitty thing to do.

And yea it was a Star Sky game, I've send Otakumaker an email, let's see what happens.
Is it the same case with Star Sky 2?

I think so but I'm not completly sure anymore. I read about it in Rachel's thread about the Bundle so best check there.

Can't they just delete the old key and give you a new one? That way, no crime will have happened and, that way, no punishment will need to happen. ;P

I don't understand what you mean

Let's say that I won your giveaway, activated the key in another account of mine, and then told you it was duplicated. If I keep the key, you can say that's a crime, because I practically stole your key. But if you send an e-mail to the site that you bought the key from and tell them to cancel the previous key and give you another, then you'll give me a new key that works for sure and the key I stole stops working. So, that's like no crime happened so no punishment is needed. Do you understand now? ;P

Oh yes lol, when you said they I assumed the you meant the "winner" that stole my key. Which got me confused.
But yea I guess that's the best option

You might end up with no game but having it revoked doesn't change the fact that you stole it in the first place.

But if the winner didn't gain any loot, then he's not a thief. That's what I mean. ;P He's still a bad person, but no crime has happened.

Yes it has.

I break into your house. I steal a game disc (claim the key). I destroy the disc (use the key). You claim for the disc on your insurance (get support to issue a new key). I have no game and you have a new one to do as you please with. Even ignoring the breaking and entering which doesn't apply to the original situation I still stole the game in the first place. Whether you get issued a new one and/or I get punished it still happened, you can't just handwave it away and change history.

EDIT: It's taking an item in the first place, not keeping that makes someone a thief.

If a key is deleted (even if used by someone else before), the game will be removed from their library.

if it was a star sky key that he said was duped it most likely was as 2 out of 5 of the ones people got from Otakumaker were duped keys its how the publisher sent them not Otakumakers fault or anything:)

Thanks for the clarification, I've sent them an email I'll see when they will reply.
But this was more of a general hypothetical.

yea im pretty sure it has happened to me several times its why i no longer make Ga's lower then level 5,i figure by the time someone makes it to level 5 they are not going to risk there accounts for something as silly as one extra key:)~

Yea I don't usually go for anything less than lvl5 but this was one of my few times doing a group/whitelist GA so I didn't want to risk low entries

tough to prove, but if someone consistently marked GAs as not received, it would certainly attract attention

"...Otakumaker..."

First consider the source. Otakumaker is somewhat unprofessional, so I wouldn't be surprised about getting a dupe key via them.

On the other hand, if this was from Bundle Stars or Humble, I'd be more suspicious.

Didn't know Otakumaker was considered unprofessional. Thanks for the heads up!

Well, they are to me. The way they send out keys when you're buying multiple bundles -- by the game title instead of as a bundle set -- makes it much more work when doing a group buy, for example. They have no account management, and with their greenlight bundles, you don't always get an itch.io key for the game, just a promise of a game when greenlit, which to me is a no no (Reddit Game Deals has banned sites that don't provide a DRM-free copy of greenlight games). They just don't seem to seem to be as polished as other sites I deal with.

They have managed to mix up keys and sent out the same 5-packs to more than one person.
By the way, all bundle sites have sent out duplicate keys in the past, even Humble Bundle. Sometimes it is the publisher messing up, sometimes them.

Otakumaker has already stated the Dev was at fault in this case (Star Sky). Never got a dupe from them yet, though I still have SS keys.

I have got one from Bundle stars and 2 from HB overtime. Luck of the draw I guess.

If you suspect any "funny business," report it to us so that something may be done about it. Do NOT make the same mistake others have by talking about it in the forum or Comments section.

Thanks for letting me know. I wasn't blaming or suspecting my winner, but I just thought of the possibility that people would do that for extra keys.

Contact the site you got it from, and ask for a new key while saying they can request to delete the previous one. If the winner was trying to be smart, then he'll be in for a surprise.

If you ever go this route make sure you don't mention steamgifts. As soon as you do you basically become exempt from support, not just at bundle sites but at a number of stores as well. For example if you buy a bunch of games from GMG in one order and then tell the one key didn't work after you tried giving it away here they'll pull support for the entire order,

Unless you send a gift link there's no way you can really prove it as devs aren't typically going to take the time to check whether an individual key was activated - even if they did there'd be all sorts of shit brewing if they then went around telling any old person who redeemed a certain key (they can check if a key was redeemed, I don't know whether they can see to which account).

IG links note the email address they were redeemed to, HB ones don't but if you sent one to a given address Humble support should at least be able to confirm the link was redeemed by the same address, Neither of those will guarantee the same user then redeemed the key after receiving the link but you can at least show the support staff here that they received the link . It being a link also means that even if the key ultimately is bad shows that you can't have tampered with it as you never saw it.

Yeah, i've won a GA a couple days ago and the key was duplicated. Asked the support how to proceed what they never answered. I spoked with the person who created the GA and told me he was sure it shouldn't be no problem, but still, couldn't activated it :.
I won't risk my reputation (though i'm new) for a key of a game.
