So...will you start using EGS now?

Yeah
Nope

My shopping choice is GoG/Steam. Sometimes origin as needed for cross activation games. I just don't have a need for the Epic store front.

So you have missed 100+ free games, lol

And?

Free games (things in general) aren't the most important things in the universe. I will gladly pay for games I want to play.

If a person doesn't ever plan on using the game client then the free games don't matter.

Every game is free (eventually). I'd rather get my free games from other storefronts rather than support this bullshit company and install their trash client. The game was already given away anyway, so there's really no difference. I don't do it, though, because I have better things to do. But if I wanted the FREE games so bad, I'd do that.

epic has to pay for every game they give away, so by picking up those free games, you are actively hurting the company. their plan is to give free games in order to hook people in and get them to start using their service, but if you only get the free games then that's technically bad for epic. you can claim them straight from the website, no launcher needed.

I deleted my comment because you technically never claimed Epic pays for every copy of their freebies.

Epic pays developers the same regardless if a Freebie has been claimed by 1 person or 1 gazillion copies.

huh yeah, it seems that's correct.
my philosophy either way is to still pick up those free games. even though i haven't played any of them and have even bought steam copies for some after getting the free copies on epic, it's good to know that they're there in case i ever did want to play them.

Same here. I recently missed a month or two (hope they'll repeat some of those during their daily pre-christmas freebies) but I also try to grab them all when I can 😄

I haven't played any of them yet neither but there's a few very nice games like Subnautica or Celeste I only have on Epic.

I mean fingers crossed but who knows if Steam is gonna stay with us forever.

I have no need for those game I have plenty. Also remember if something is free you are the product.

Yes, I was a product when they gave Control (the game) freely on Epic Games Store and allowed me to play it without actually having to pay for it, and learnt the design behind its gameplay, combat and narrative.
Yeah, I became the product when I thought myself to use Unreal Engine and got myself into 2 triple A companies everyone hates.
Of course, I became a product the second I fell in love with Control and even applied for a position at Remedy Entertainment.
Yeah... I'm a product, but isn't everyone living in capitalism?

Btw Control has really primitive gameplay except graphics, but isn't it a thing having just a good graphics like Cyberpunk 2077 which is much more beautiful?

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

Define primitive.
The mechanics revolve around using specific guns that make use of diverse modifications to expand the whole simple "shooting" mechanic, and physics-based mechanics. If we were to break-down most of the games nowadays they'd go down to pretty much the same thing.

When I hear primitive I think of Counter-Strike: 1.6, quake, doom games (the old ones), Uncharted series (the series aren't good for their gameplay mechanics, but for the adventure & narrative side), etc.

Congrats, EGS finally made enough money to upgrade to "late 90s" level of comfort ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

"made"? They constantly losing A LOT of money with EGS because of all the exclusives and giveaways, as those costs more money for them than the amount of income they generate. If i remember correctly for the article and the financial numbers there were only 1 or 2 games brought back the exclusive deal money.

EGS will be profitable in a couple of years. In the meantime, Fortnite is the hard carry of Epic.

Sure, sometime they will stop throwing money out with exclusives and giveaways, after that they will do some profit. But with the progress speed they doing humanity might go extinct before that:-D

3 years to add a cart, I'm sure they'll soon start with that competition thing.

Plus they already hard a cart for ages in the shop part for Unreal Engine stuff... How hard could this be to offer the same for the game shop? So cutting-edge...

It's a Christmas Miracle!

Also, wow, Epic Games Store's been around for 3 years?! When Epic isn't being obnoxiously hypocritical it exist so far away from my consciousness that I didn't even realize it's been that long...

Yeah doesn't feel that long but yeah going off borderlands 3 it has been that long which is insane! It was such a big deal at the start and less so as time went on that it just left peoples mind so it does feel like just last year all this happened. Well I've avoided it all this time, missed 3 years worth of free games I think I can survive another 3 more

Nope. The priest refused to carry the costumes, the penguin couldn't, the priest didn't let the prostitute carry the costumes, and they walked out empty handed because shopping carts wouldn't be introduced in the store until 3 years into the future.

Whoa, i didnt know that they support payment method from my local wallet.
EDIT: just tested it. It uses a third party, but at least it supports better payment option than steam. Steam only support credit/debit cards in addition to paypal, and voucher code has additional fees. I dont think epic got additional fees except if you want to transfer fee to the wallet, and there is also a bank transfer option if you dont want that. The process is a bit weird with so many extra steps, but at least it is hassle free.

That's not entirely correct. I use paysafe codes for Steam it basically works like a prepaid anonymous cc which you can buy at many supermarkets and filling stations in my country although it might not be available globally.

Also accepted by Epic, GOG and many key retailers like Fanatical, GMG, gamesplanet etc.

Doesn't that count as credit card since it behaves like that?

Yes and no you can use the codes online only and there are only fixed denominations available (10, 20, 30 and 50 Euro in my case).

That´s something, but still, EPIC = NO. I´ve read some people asking for this to start buying games so let´s see how much they compete now. Not much I guess.

You know, it only clicked to me right now that while EGS didn't have a shopping cart, the Unreal Engine Marketplace (which is accessed from the same launcher) has had it for ~years (and it works just fine). Wonder what's different on the backend.
