Never been there, and not anywhere close to any of my planned destinations. I'm not even sure if I'd go to the US, to be honest - If I travel anywhere, I'll go somewhere culturally and visually different from Canada.

I've lived in Florida my entire life so I can only really think about the negatives of it. It's good for vacation during the winter though.

Hrm, can't say as I'd call Florida one of my "favorite" places to visit, nor was it worst. Way too many bugs, way too humid, and every restaurant seemed to serve primarily fish in Florida, though. When you're allergic to fish, it sucks. Idk how many times I asked "do you serve beef?" when I was there (which was mostly for business trips).

On the plus side, there's some absolutely killer fishing and most of the people seemed cool and friendly. (and yes, I can fish, I just can't eat it).

I did a lot of my domestic travel years ago, hitching around one summer - it was a while back, and we were a smarter country with far fewer guns. Still and all, there were three constant states that hitchhikers avoided: Florida, Louisiana (except New Orleans and the interstates leading there), and Texas. Too many nuts, and way too easy to dispose of bodies.

I lived in Dallas for a year. Wasn't my kind of place. Later I went to Austin for visits for a few years, mostly for SXSW but also other times to check things out without the absurd crowds. If you go? Fly. Texas is really really big.

I've been there many times in my life, mainly to Tampa/St. Pete area or to Orlando with my parents when I was a kid. Though my last vacation to Florida was to Ft. Lauderdale a few years ago which was nice. I have an uncle who moved to Destin about 15 years ago and he loves it, says he'll never leave. And I have a friend who moved to Jacksonville who says it's the biggest hell-hole he's ever lived in and can't wait to get out. So, 50/50 there. :P

I visited some family in Navarre Beach. It was beautiful, great weather, delicious food. Best trip of my life.

Heh I've been to florida so many times I can't count. My aunt lived in winters park and my grandparents had a vacation house in seabrook. I still have family somewhere down there but since the last time I had contact with any of them was when I was a kid I have no clue where any of them are now. Sadly my mom didn't keep up with them after my grandmother died.
I think my favorite time was when My girlfriend(now wife) and I went down to disney around christmas and drove back up on Christmas eve. My wife suggested we drive through St. Augustine and I decided to drive on the beach in my moms mini cooper. We got stuck and had to wait about 20 mins before a local helped dig us out. My wife was crying the entire time because she thought I wouldn't find someone to help. We have a good laugh about it now though.

Considering that "Florida man" is an actual tag on many news networks, because it was shorter than "the weirdest shit you can ever hear coming from the United States", I think if I had to visit the 'States, I'd try to stick to the parts that are far, far, faaaaar away from it.
Plus I hate summers anyway.
