Was on my wishlist for a quite a while. Tried it today and was quite disappointed. Combat is simply awful (I do not even see the point of it) and the core gameplay seems to be quite tedious with too much emphasis on traveling slowly. I could forgive the latter one if the comber would be fun but alas it is not. Dropped this one from the list.

I agree the combat itself is fairly pointless. I'm guessing it was included either as a concession to those players who insist on having combat in any game and or to force players to think more about their routes to avoid it.
Definitely a slower paced game and heavily reliant on the stories and exploration. It has rung my bell as I like those sort of games but I can fully understand why many people wouldn't like it. What we'd call a "marmite" game over here in the UK

In the very early early access days, it had turn based combat that began when you were within range of a threat. It wasn't very popular, but I wish they would have refined it instead of going with real time combat.

i didnt enjoy it much the first night... I got a couple really long island and it was a bit tiring to read it all.
But I enjoyed it more tonight, explored out a bit further, realized that i can(and should) turn off my lamp.

Really liked Ship Murder Party and already have that in my library :)
I know what you mean about wanting to get to a certain stage over the weekend. I abandoned Space Engineers for a similar reason but it remains on my wishlist

I've wanted The Ship for a while, but after a certain point I decided to just wait for Remastered...which is coming in about two weeks.

Looking forward to seeing how the remastered game turns out although I'd only probably get it for overwhelmingly positive reviews as my backlog is huge ..

Had a chance to give it a very short spin, but I think getting into the game deep enough to start really enjoying it would require more free time than I currently have to spare, and there are other games which I think would better complement my present gaming mood and time constraints. I can see the potential there though and the writing style was quite interesting.
The free weekend promotions are an interesting development -- I think I could see more and more devs/pubs using them to get people to actually play their games instead of just having them get bundled and sitting in a collection somewhere untouched.

It remains in your library as an entry marked "Sunless Sea - License Expired" but is not playable

Yeeeaaah...I don't want to get preachy, but Failbetter is a really small dev and this is their first Steam release. I think it'd be nice not to spread that around and pay for the game if you plan on keeping it.

One of my top ten wish listed games so I've already downloaded and started to have a look at this one :)
The game is also 40% off until Monday 1st Feb ..
One positive is that it is a very small download - it took me less than 5 minutes to download
To activate it just go to the Store Page and click the Play Game button. This will install it in your library and allow you to play it whilst the offer lasts
EDIT: Be aware that you may want to avoid synchronising your Steam account with Steam Gifts for the duration of the free play weekend if you do install Sunless Sea otherwise you may miss out on any GAs!
What are your thoughts?
EDIT: Fractured Space is also free to play this weekend too
