I think Bungie will win out of taht. Maybe because of less microtransaction.

Does Activision have anything left besides CoD? Blizzard is separate, none of those.

They will always have Skylanders :D

They're done with that too from what that article says.

They also have remastered ps2-era classics, and licensed games that invariably disappear after 2-3 years when the license expires.

Well they did Crash and Spyro, that's pretty much the big ones. I can't see them making much profit off of others.

They can still try and resurrect Pitfall again ;)

Does that mean Activision will jack prices even higher?

If you think Blizz will do the same, stop dreaming seriously.

Yes of course this could happend, but only if Mike Morhime might be still on board. Activision make sure this will not happend, by throwing Mike Morhime now "officialy" out from Blizz by 9 april.

Sigh... I guess that's one more exclusive for epic store. Let's hope not, though. Let's see what Bungie is all about. And unrelated to epic, Steam feels like home to a game like Destiny.

Seems like its not the 1st time Bungie had a jump. What exactly did both sides lose apart from Destiny? Not a fan of Destiny so I do not see the impact. Though it is mentioned Activision is suffering from other internal job and cost cuts. Cheers~

an industry-shaking divorce

drama lv over 9000 🤷

that will see the shared world shooter series Destiny enter fully into Bungie’s control

yeah, we will see what happens if destiny 3 is trash and they have no one else but bungie to blame. 🤦‍♀️

I actually think there is chance that they will go back to Microsoft and Destiny 3 will be Xbox exclusive, Destiny 1 was already console exclusive, so why not?

edit: exclusive to consoles (PS, Xbox)

Destiny 1 was not console exclusive. You might be thinking of Titanfall.

Edit: I misread the comment, sorry.

Actually, Titanfall is not a console exclusive - I bought it on Origin for $5.

Destiny 1 is a console exclusive. You can play it on the PS4, or on the XB1, but you can't play it on PC. It is exclusive to consoles.

Ah, I read that wrong. I took it to mean that it was exclusive "on consoles" instead of "to consoles", since they mentioned it together with it going Xbox exclusive.

Oh, yeah, that makes sense. It wasn't exclusive to a particular console, but it was exclusive to consoles, which isn't normally what we think of when we say "console exclusive". :)

If they do go back to Microsoft - which would be weird, seeing as they worked to separate themselves from Microsoft - it would probably be an Xbox / Microsoft Store exclusive. Not ideal, but better than just an Xbox exclusive like Sunset Overdrive was or Halo whatever is. I'm thinking Microsoft has gotten the "Xbox console only exclusive" out of their system by now.

You are right! Indeed it was exclusive to consoles*

That would be hilarious - breaking free of Microsoft in 2007 only to go back to them a decade later.

Big difference is that Bungie and Activision never were the same company, where Activision Blizzard had always been a full merger into a single one.

Bungie is now free from Activision! Hurray!

Now they are free to partner with whichever publisher they want, like Microsoft! Ooh, now that sounds like a good combination. ;)

Now to see if they stay independent this time or partner with another company like EA / Ubisoft.

I'm not sure if many caught this from the article... "Bungie also has a brand new game in development thanks to a $100 million investment from NetEase." Hopefully, this won't be a mobile game (this is the same company that signed with Blizzard to make "Diablo Immortal"). With other Activision studios stepping in to finish Destiny 2 DLC, it seems like Bungie will be able to put all of their efforts into this new title. It'll probably be some time before we get real info, but I hope they can stay independent this time ala Insomniac Games.

Other Activision studios stepping in on Destiny 2? That contradicts every official statement that Bungie gets/takes full ownership of the franchise. Besides every other Activision studio is busy milking CoD already.

Thanks for the reply, I misread a bit of the article. High Moon and Vicarious Visions were (are?) working on the already announced future Destiny 2 DLC. Since rights haven't been transferred yet and Bungie has already started on a new project, I thought that they might leave that arrangement in place. However, with the transfer of publication (and with that, administrative) rights, I guess Bungie almost has to bring everything in-house.

I still remember how many people were pumped for the first game pre-release. Given everything promised, it seemed like a game tailored almost specifically to my likings. For whatever reasons though, I thought the publishing deal would foul things up... and I'm sorry to see that I was right (but now I honestly have zero clues as to what to expect for Destiny 3... heh they should just release it as "Destiny", assuming it gets made... hopefully they will feel compelled to finish out the trilogy, especially on their own terms).

Much as Activision sucks for the many horrid choices they make, guess they are actually a bit better than EA. Since EA doesn't let any developer escape, and instead kills and cannibalizes them all when unwanted.
