Playing Matters Recruitment Topic v3

Playing Matters is a group that values playing wins from SteamGifts. We hope to create a respectable and dependable platform to unite friendly and passionate gamers.
Our group is not so much about making giveaways, but about enjoying what we already have and sharing fun with like-minded people. We aim to create a friendly and enjoyable atmosphere in our group.

We fully encourage fun little chats to take place in our group giveaways. Additionally we have our own Discord server for our members to make new friends and enjoy each other’s company while also enjoying our wins.

Before applying to join our group, please make sure that:

How to apply:

If you meet the requirements mentioned above and want to join, reply to this topic stating that you are applying to the group and tell us a bit about your favourite SG win. It doesn’t have to be much - maybe a sentence or two.

Creating a BLAEO account is not required but we’d still like you to post the link to your profile if you have it, whether you use it actively or not.

We will have a look at your profile(s) and contact you in due time.

We hope to see you among us. Have fun winning games and playing them!

Please don’t send friend requests to mods or admins.

If you don't receive a direct reply within 7 days, your application is likely under consideration. Also, if your application is rejected please don’t allow this to break your spirit. Instead use it as a motivation to discover and enjoy new games among your SG wins. Who knows, maybe your next favourite game is right around the corner.

Hi, I'd like to join. The game I've won here is HUE, which was a cool little game. It's a game about colours, so the game has vibrant colours which you have to manipulate to solve puzzles throughout the game. I really enjoyed it, beat the game yesterday, only missing 1 achievement for 100% which I definitely plan to go for sometime later.

Hi, i would like to join the group, i have read the Rules and Guidelines and agree to it.
Here is my BLAEO (It is uptaded for the Win on steamgift part and i try to keep it for most part up to date for whats outside too.)

About my wins on Steamgift, when i joined the site some years ago, i mostly entered in mostly all i see.. without really thinking more about if i will play it or not, things have change a lot since then and it's been now good amount of time that i only join giveaway for game i really want to give a real try.
Anyway i push myself with the time to at least try to play all of the game i won on Steamgift (with some expetion remains, like VR titles, i finally haven't get any vr helmet to try it out, for now at least). I have a good numbers of games noted has "won't play" in BLAEO, somes are bugged (Game crash, Can't launch, ..) other are online game with dead servers, some with inifite gameplay or very broken gameplay, some's that i have try but not liked at all or that feel too hard for me to beat. I can enter in more details if you needed.

For whats about my favorite win, it was a decent number of nice game that i got. But if i have to choose one, my heart would say Monument Valley. I knew about the game for long time when it come out on mobile but since i hate play on those device it was really nice to win it when it get out on steam, i loved the minimalist design and atmospheric of the game even if the puzzle part was a bit easy and the game quite short.

Thanks for your consideration and your time for reading me.

Hi,

I'd like to join, but I'm not sure regarding "Maintain our requirements of having at least 50% of played wins with 25% of completed achievements at all times." - If it's the case only for group wins, I think I'm good. If it's regarding all. I'm not.

If it's about in-group wins, I'd like to join. Thank you :)

Hello! I would like to be in your group.
I try to make sure that I win, for this I participate in many events on SG, because sometimes there is not enough motivation. Your group, I think, will give me enough motivation to go through the games even harder.
I have a BLAEO account: BLAEO
One of my favorite wins is Mass Effect™ Legendary Edition - I spent almost a month in this game without getting out. I first got acquainted with this universe from this remaster and did not regret it a bit.
Little Nightmares II - I really love this series of games. I really like dark atmospheric platformers.
Regarding DEATH STRANDING - I marked it as "passed", although in fact it is clear that the game did not start. The fact is that I bought an upgrade to DIRECTOR'S CUT and passed it.
In general, I enjoy most of the games I win and miss, as I usually only enter giveaways that I actually plan on playing. Unfortunately, when I first registered for the SG, I joined almost everything in a row. There are not many such wins, so I have already passed some of them, and I plan to pass the second part, albeit not in the near future.
And I apologize if there are mistakes in my message - I don't know English very well

I got very unlucky with the first Mass Effect game, idk maybe due to some hardware problems even - on a certain spot of a story mission game was shutting down completely, so I couldn't progress. This was ages ago, when game first published. Maybe I should try the game again. Everything says this could be also one of my favourites, I love RPGs, Sci-fi, space etc.

Yep, most people start SG in the same way. I wasn't an exception. Back then games seemed like infinite ocean with no way to really structurize them and learn a lot about them beforehand, with no playing. And SG seemed too random and unknown to start trying to optimize the approach to entering GAs and make it more meaningful. Got to win some random things too while learning the ropes.

I think it's worth giving Mass Effect another chance. A friend of mine recently went through the entire remastered trilogy and didn't encounter any of the critical issues I had (◕‿◕)

Hello there, Lilith812! I would love to join Playing Matters. I have read and agree to the group rules, and I believe I’ve met the requirements.

I’m certain my favorite SG win will be Disco Elysium - The Final Cut by the time I finish it. Among the wins I already have finished, The Inner World is easily my fave. It’s a point & click puzzle and I absolutely adore its style of humor, the voice acting, and the goofy solutions to the puzzles.

Here is my BLAEO profile and I keep it up to date. I only enter giveaways I plan to play, and backlog and achievement rate is something I care a lot about even without PM rules. Hopefully that can be shown through my profile, and I’m looking forward to joining PM. :)

Hmm, haven't yet played/finished these games myself. I keep hearing great things of Disco Elysium :3
And the Inner World is a kind of a postponed project with my sis, who never wants to play it when we choose what's next.

PM would require more wins (half) to be beaten at a time of joining the group (and then upkeeping and improving from there). You have done well with your wins and we are looking forward to taking you in in the future!

I still haven't finished Disco Elysium yet, but I've been absolutely loving its gritty writing, the atmosphere (music, art style, voice acting, etc), and the unique (at least to me) skill tree system.

postponed project with my sis

I hope the both of you will have a good time playing it too, if/when you get to it someday :3

we are looking forward to taking you in in the future

Does this mean I should keep working for a higher played (>25% achievements) ratio and then send another application here? I know that my current status is I'm always barely over the 50% threshold (in fact, I won multiple games in the last couple of days and that alone is enough to lower my ratio to less than 50% and I was just planning to raise it above 50% again today) (Edit: done!), so it's perfectly understandable if you would like to see my ratio much higher than 50% before sending an invite.

Cheers, and I hope you're having a pleasant day :D

Thanks!

Yes, as you described, just keep beating the wins so that beaten part is evidently above half and can't drop below that just from winning a few new games, especially if you enter many GAs and don't tend to beat these very soon after winning. You can reapply here later. Getting to half of games beaten in BLAEO SG wins list would be a straightforward step.
More importantly, this all is not about maintaining the percentage and checking the script, but possibly improving the whole approach and as result always having much more wins beaten than required minimum, even if winning regularly.

I'd also like to join, having read the rules and guidelines and FAQ, and having beaten all but my latest win (which I'm playing right now EDIT: Nevermind, that game sucks; I'll have to stop). Here's my BLAEO profile: https://www.backlog-assassins.net/users/devonrv

Picking a favorite win is a bit tough, but I think I'll go with Vanguard Knights. It has solid controls with challenging-yet-mostly-fair level design, though it could be repetitive and cheap at times. It's also only $5, so I can recommend just straight-up buying it instead of winning it like I did. If you need more details, I made a post on BLAEO about it: https://www.backlog-assassins.net/posts/m7o4egb

I'm interested in joining, after a few years passed :P
I won some wonderful games: Child of Light, Tales from the Borderlands, SOMA, and the list could go on and on.
For the best win hour-wise Deep Rock Galactic wins, while on a story- and gameplay front it was Metal Gear Revengeance that won me over :)

Argh.. You! Mind-tricker. -_- I keep forgetting that you are not a member of PM. Maybe this will put the end to these confusions.

Won some good titles, lucky you.. :з I haven't played any of these listed myself. With borderlands, tried ages ago a co-op with the very first game and had a pretty bad experience. This, and genre generally not being my cup, sealed the series for me. Guess you had a better luck. Deep Rock Galactic suggests having a good company too.

Tales from the Borderlands is one of the best received Telltale games, and it doesn't require to play the shooters, maybe the adventure is more to your liking? (I loved BL2, one is indeed rough in retrospect)

Hi. For the last couple of months I've been actively trying to win back all the gifts I've accumulated. The reason for this has been to join communities like yours.
One of my favourite wins is
Book of Demons - it was very exciting to go lower and lower in the dungeon in order to save citizens from spoilage and learn a little truth about the causes of events. Oh, and the ending couldn't help but make me smile.
Red Ronin - The story is usually the main reason I go through a game. And being the main character in an old action film like Kill Bill was doubly enjoyable.
The Warlock of Firetop Mountain - I literally created my own adventure.
Unfortunately the games have accumulated too many that I still have a lot of work to do with them.

I absolutely loved The Warlock of Firetop Mountain, the feel of it was so much reminding the old PC games and tabletops too!

Yep, a lot of wins to go through. You are doing great though, and thanks for sharing! Wish you good luck and a lot of fun and pleasurable moments enjoying the games.

Hmm, drops are really not secure. I tried my best to save this one, but I believe I have failed miserably. If I even understood this right. And the situation is really not socially convenient T_T I hope that the part about trying to send anything earlier is just for puzzle, since I have no idea.
Thanks for the sentiment though!

Query: What's the minimum numbers of "games won" needed to apply for joining the group?

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

We were taking people with 0 wins a few times before, and too many of them weren't beating their SG wins later and were removed (broken rule of always having more than half of wins beaten). We stopped doing that.

There is no exact minimum, will depend on how evidently the existing wins would be beaten.
I understand that for a new person with 0 to few wins this means learning to filter well the GAs they are entering so that wins would be definitely worth of beating, rare GA is entered and nothing may be won for a long while, postponing the application to the group in turn, which is not a great conclusion. I can only suggest entering a group Unlucky7, for people with less than 7 wins.
Also if nothing would be won in a long while, then apply / reapply here in thread and mods will see what we could do.

Hello!
I'd like to join Playing Matters, please.
I've carefully read the rules and believe I meet the requirements, hopefully!

A little about me:

  • Won 13 games on SG. Played and beat 10 of them.
  • The 11th win -Who pressed mute on Uncle Marcus?- is already installed and will be played this October.
  • Active and proud member of PaGYWoSG since April. It really motivated me.
  • It's a bit tricky to pick a favorite SG win since each game brings something new to the table. My first two wins -Blackwell Deception & Primordia- introduced me to the PointnClick genre, something entirely new to me.
  • One of my latest wins -Tabletop Simulator- reminded me of my childhood when I used to play chess in the afternoon with the next door kid between our doorsteps. He was older but I managed to beat him in chess and monopoly a few times xD Two games I thoroughly enjoyed playing in TTS!
  • I enjoy writing about the games I've played. When I play a game and don't review it, it feels like I haven't finished playing it if that makes sense. I'm afraid I played about a dozen games so far that still have draft reviews only.

Hi, I would like to apply to the group,
I have more than 50% of my wins beaten, but I have less than 10 games won and I haven't beaten them all has the group info recommends, but I would like to make my case has I have legitimate reasons to not beat the 3 2 remaining games out of 8.
My BLAEO

First BloodRayne 2 I got this game a long time ago and by the time I decided to play it the game couldn't be played. First I tried in a Windows, and the game started but probably due to incompatible hardware optimizations the game was unplayable, and today I tried to play it on my linux with steam proton, and the game doesn't even run. Starts, shows the settings window, then after I accept them the game shows a company logo and then nothing. I just can't play it.
Edit 5: Thanks to the comment by RePlayBe I found out I could play it. And I played it till the end but even so I'm not done with it. Let me explain. The game has a build in cheat system similar to gta san andreas, and because the game ran really janky. In many instances I allowed my self to use god mode, but I used it so much that at some point I given up on trying normally. I took some screenshots of the last 2 bosses and you can see I'm full health because of god mode. But that isn't the only reason I'm not done with the game, the second reason is that I found out that for some reason I have the remastered version in my library BloodRayne 2: Terminal Cut, and that one has achievements. So my plan is to play that version has legit as I can manage (I'll do it probably 100% legit but I don't want to overly commit to that.), and then I'll make here the final edit. (At least regarding to this game).
Final Edit 6: In BloodRayne 2 Terminal Cut I got the achievement Patricide: Kill Kagan which is the final boss. I beat the game whiteout god mode. I would like to clarify that I don't have nothing against other people using god mode in their runs, I just like to avoid using it myself whenever possible.

Second Boundless This game runs on my linux, but I have some issues that prevent-me form reaching the %25 achievement milestone(The game has no end, so the achievement milestone would be the way to beat it.) First the game is really complicated, there are so much info that I felt I was missing when I play it. And the solution is actually the second problem, the game is extremely community oriented, so I should find someone to talk with and socialize. But the game is mostly dead. Some people seems to remain but I don't know how to find them. This is a game that I would only try to beat with some one else. And in this moment I have no one to ask. (Part of the reason I want to join this group is to find people witch with to play, mostly other games, but this one too if the opportunity arises )

Third Nickelodeon All-Star Brawl My linux is a laptop, and I currently have no tower, an my laptop has a really small hard drive, and because is my only computer I have it filled with different stuff, today i tried to make space for the game that is 30 GB, but the most of free space I could manage was 17 GB. I can surely free more. And if it would make a difference to getting accepted in the group I'll do it. But right now it would be very inconvenient for me, and I would appreciate if this game could wait till I'm in a better position (This Christmas I'll probably buy a new PC and then I could play it without excuse.)
Edit: I managed to free enough space, I'm playing it soon.
Edit 2: I have 6 of 24 achievements, witch is exactly 25%. I'll farm a couple more the following days, but because is a fighting game there isn't really an end achievement,
Edit 3: I got the achievement "Ultimate Tool of Destruction Complete an Arcade run on the highest difficulty" That should count has the end achievement.
Final Edit 4: I have 19 of 24 achievements The final 5 are online related and the servers are dead.

Now I would like to tell about the games I beat, and what I did archive to consider them beaten.

Prime World: Defenders I played this for an event ("Play a game you won on Steamgifts") and I din't get an achievement after the last level, but I took screenshots of unlocking survival missions, and heroic mode.

Meeple Station The game is not marked as beaten in BLAEO because the game has no real end, and I feel like I don't want to mark it as beaten till I have played it more. But the threshold of 25% achievements is clearly beaten has I have 14 of 22.

Remnants of Naezith I have the achievement All Chapters Completion Complete all the chapters

Shotgun King: The Final Checkmate I have the achievement Rank 15 Finish throne at rank 15 Witch is the hardest difficulty.

SUPERHOT: MIND CONTROL DELETE I have all the achievements
Edit 6: Superhot has been my favorite win for now, the mechanics are only challenging when you have one of the elites present, and that is great, because that way most of the time you feel like a pro killing machine. I plan to play it more next month, but this one I'll let it rest because I used it to participate in this month event of "Play a game you won on Steamgifts", and I don't want to mess with the time played rankings of that event.

Thanks, I hope the patch can work on linux too. Still even if it doesn't work on linux I can ask my mother for her laptop and try that there. Thanks. :)
Edit: I didn't even need the patch, with deleting the starting videos I kinda can play it. I may be facing some issues already but isn't unplayable. Also because has the tag "Nudity" I can use it to participate in this month "Play a game you won on Steamgifts". Thank you again! :)

I recently also won and beat Ring of Pain got the achievement Illuminate, Eliminate: Complete the Light Ending. It's a nice game, but it has a really confusing story, too much for my smooth brain. I plan to get the second ending at some point, but I'm not sure yet how to defeat the boss from that path, I'll probably follow a guide at some point.

Also I've been thinking more about witch is my favorite win, and I think I'll change my answer, because even if I had a thought time with "Remnants of Naezith" it still is the one I'm more proud to have beaten. At first I remember that I was going to abandon it, but the gameplay was really addictive and I couldn't stop myself from keep trying. Even if it was really frustrating at times.
