Playing Matters Recruitment Topic v3

Playing Matters is a group that values playing wins from SteamGifts. We hope to create a respectable and dependable platform to unite friendly and passionate gamers.
Our group is not so much about making giveaways, but about enjoying what we already have and sharing fun with like-minded people. We aim to create a friendly and enjoyable atmosphere in our group.

We fully encourage fun little chats to take place in our group giveaways. Additionally we have our own Discord server for our members to make new friends and enjoy each other’s company while also enjoying our wins.

Before applying to join our group, please make sure that:

How to apply:

If you meet the requirements mentioned above and want to join, reply to this topic stating that you are applying to the group and tell us a bit about your favourite SG win. It doesn’t have to be much - maybe a sentence or two.

Creating a BLAEO account is not required but we’d still like you to post the link to your profile if you have it, whether you use it actively or not.

We will have a look at your profile(s) and contact you in due time.

We hope to see you among us. Have fun winning games and playing them!

Please don’t send friend requests to mods or admins.

If you don't receive a direct reply within 7 days, your application is likely under consideration. Also, if your application is rejected please don’t allow this to break your spirit. Instead use it as a motivation to discover and enjoy new games among your SG wins. Who knows, maybe your next favourite game is right around the corner.

Hello, I would like to join the group. I like to play my wins. If I have to choose a favorite I would say GRIME. It's a souls-like metroidvania set in a weird world full of rock people. Also I'm pretty sure it's the first game I ever played with a parry function, lol. Anyway I enjoyed it a lot, it's pretty underrated. Here's my blaeo.

Hi, I'd like to apply. I've only won 2 games (so far) but my favorite was definitely Batman: Arkham Asylum. I only enter give aways for games I'm actually interested in playing and I had heard a lot about it so was excited when I won it. It was a pretty good game, kind of short as I beat it in ~20 hours and maybe another 10 just playing the DLC repeatedly.

Good afternoon Id like to apply.
From my SG wins, my favorite is Double Cross. Its a cartoon-looking platformer, with a sort of Men in Black organization dealing with multidimensional travels. Its a bit silly but gameplay specially if you want completion is quite complex and fun.

Hey id like to join as well.
I started my BLAEO journey with more than 80 percent unplayed games, now it is close to 50 percent! Thanks to BLAEO monthly themed events and PAGYWOSG. I do intend to play all of my SG wins.

My favourite win would be an early one called Chained Echoes. I had initially underestimated this game, after realising it was entirely pixelated. I wasnt as mindful about the GAs I entered for back then, I used to check for the 'Very Positive' and the plot summary.
I took like 5 days to finish the first scene of the game...why? Because I didn't want to continue cz of the pixels. However upon actually starting, I was hooked. The writing was intelligent, engaging. Characters had personality. The story overall felt very well thought out and rich in lore. The turn based combat was extremely addicting as well.

interested in joining(finally assassinated a chunk of those old wins last month!). Still slowly working on improving the stats even further, PAGYWOSG definitely helping me focus what to target. Just an update in January 2025, sitting around 75% of wins beaten/completed(+- a % or 2 )

BLAEO or spreadsheet format if desired(I probably won't be updating the shared version further) - spreadsheet one has notes on some things.

As for my favorite wins, it really is a hard pick, there is Disgaea in one of my favorite genres(turn based tactics), just a little jank from being ported to PC from handhelds, then there is Lies of P my first true souls-like to actually complete not just dabble and get back to another game, could also look at Enter the Gungeon which I suck so much at I had to do some modding to give myself a handicap, still great fun even when I know I can't lose(do plan to slowly 100% it)... Then I see the timeless classic of Half-Life 2 which I am mad at myself for ignoring for so long(played the episodes and lost coast to because I enjoyed it so much)... such a great game.... and of course the other classic... Skyrim, my steam stats don't tell the whole story because I ended up needing to crack it for modding purposes(I forget the exact reason... this was a decade+ ago, but I am pretty sure it was some mod). I could go with even more, Fortix, Deaths Door, Minute of Islands, Class of '09, hellblade senuas sacrifice and more are among my favorites... all of those are contenders(or even on) my top 20 overall list.

Hello, I looked at your rules and I think that I fit your criteria. A little about my favorite game I won, I think this is V rising, my best victory, a very difficult game about survival in the body of a vampire with a bunch of bosses and a difficult resource grind with a 3D top view, I completed 100% of the achievements. There is also a second game, this is Stikir, it’s short but I really liked it, it really breaks my head. Here is my profile blaeo https://www.backlog-assassins.net/users/FruitCober I really hope to join the group

hey, I would like to apply. I've won one game which I really enjoyed, because it's very similar to StS.
Would be nice if you could let me know either way :)

Hi there,

I would also love to join the group if possible :)
My favourite win would definitely be Rogue Legacy. I love rougelike games, but Rogue Legacy adding meta-progression, thus turning it into a roguelite, made me realize that I might love roguelites even more. It's been one of my favourite games ever since, and I got the sequel, which is even better, the moment they released in in early access. The music, the atmosphere, the classes, the layouts, the environments, the gameplay, it all just really hits the nail for an overall great experience.

Here is my BLAEO profle (which I unfortunately haven't used in a long while, but I'm working on reorganizing all my new and old games): https://www.backlog-assassins.net/users/ferszabi

EDIT: Updated my BLAEO profile and categorized all games.

Howdy! I haven't won a lot of giveaways as I only enter those that I am truly interested in, but I hope I can still join! My favorite win has to be my first one, Hue. I honestly wasn't sure to what expect and haven't really played any other platform games, but I thoroughly enjoyed the experience. I hope that you will accept me into the group as Playing DOES Matter :)

I know we don't have a minimum number of wins requirement, but it's hard for us to make a proper decision with someone with just a handful of wins, or less. If I'm not wrong, I see you didn't complete the main campaign of one of the two games you've won so far, is there a reason for that?
I think it's better if you reapply once you have a few more wins under your belt. I hope you understand.

Understood. I have completed both of the main campaigns as For The King mainly stands as a replayable adventure with each playthrough being unique. Regardless, I respect the decision and assume that I can reach back out once I win/play more

It's been a while since I played it myself, my memory is what it is, but I assumed you didn't complete it since you don't have any of the achievements you get for reaching and beating Vexor, the final boss of the game in story mode.

Gotcha. I was playing with my brother and doing different campaigns within story mode but played a good amount of the game overall I thought. Definitely not done with it though and will replay it from time to time :)

Hey, I would like to join the group. Here's my blaeo profile: https://www.backlog-assassins.net/users/RiseV7.
My favorite win is Marvels Guardians of the Galaxy, loved the rendition of the characters more than the movie, the voice acting is amazing as well as the visuals. And super fun story with lots of surprises.

You don't meet the requirements for the group yet. (50% played wins, 25% achievements).
I see you have won some "big" titles (Bioshock Infinite, Shadow of War, Mass Effect 2), but you've played them just halfway through?
It doesn't quite look good considering the spirit of our group.
Give some of those games a real chance and we'll actually consider your application👍

Recruitment is open. We are quite thorough with the application revisions, plus some of us has limited free time lately (it's never just one person alone that decides), so It may take a while before you get a reply. Who's accepted usually gets contacted privately. Don't lose hope, have patience ;)👍

Hi!

I'd love to apply to be part of this group. I have read through the Rules & Guidelines, as well as FAQ.
I also believe that I fit the requirements?

I have a BLAEO profile here: https://www.backlog-assassins.net/users/Alpha2749

I will note I have a number of games marked as 'Will not play' however most (if not all) of these are asset flips which I won years ago when I didn't have as much consideration for what I was entering. I now only enter giveaways I am genuinely interested in playing, and as such all of my wins in the last ~5 years or so have been played, with a good chunk beaten or completed.

Likewise, when I give away games, especially ones that I have personally enjoyed. I very much love checking back on winners of my giveaways after a couple of months and seeing that they have made some progress with their wins!

Picking my favourite win here is a difficult question...
I very much loved playing through Ghostwire: Tokyo. The story, atmosphere, and aesthetic were really well done, so that one stands out to me as my favourite story-driven game won here. However, I have also logged a good number of hours on Cyberpunk 2077, which I thoroughly enjoyed on release despite all of its bugs and issues at launch. So I can safely say I have been fortunate enough to explore many fantastic experiences through my wins here.

Thank you for your consideration!

Hello, I would like to join.
Thanks to numerous groups here on SteamGifts, I got into this whole "playing wins from SteamGifts" mindset, and it's really satisfying :)

Best SG win so far is probably Aliens: Dark Descent, that thing had my cheeks clenching during some of the scary/hard moments. One of the best Alien games there is.

just updated the numbers and link:

≥25% complete: 96.6% (28/29), completed: 86.2% (25/29)
https://www.backlog-assassins.net/users/HardWorkingLoner (I have 374 games, everything else is just free stuff)

I have, ugh, a backlog, especially if we count non-Steam games. But I'm getting better! I no longer even claim free Epic games I'm uninterested in and in my last purchase in March, Cities: Skylines, I spent 115 hours and I'm not stopping. I'm hoping I can get here some games I'd like to play, but wouldn't purchase any time soon for various reasons.

Hi can I join don't know if I meet requirements?

How do I check if I'm eligible to join or how much more of my backlog of SG wins I need to play? I like the idea that I am required to play my wins but I'm finding the 1 month requirement of PA a little bit to short of a time to play them. I'm confident in 3 months I could commit to playing through every game I win from this group. So thanks for your consideration and please help me figure out how much more I need to play.

I'm not an admin, but I'll answer your question since response times here can be very slow.

As mentioned in the group rules page, you need to have 50% of your wins played with at least 25% of their achievements unlocked.

They use Kelnage's Do you even play, bro? script to measure that. You can actually install and run the script for yourself through Tampermonkey or Greasemonkey.

According to the script, you're at 12.2% right now (6 out of 49), so you need to play 19 more of your SG wins to qualify, assuming you don't win more games.

Thank you for the response, I couldn’t figure out how to run the script

You run the script from any user's gifts won page

Before running it for the first time, you'll need to provide it with a Steam API key which you can obtain here: https://steamcommunity.com/dev/apikey

I'll quote the instructions directly from the script's discussion page

To use it, once you've installed the userscript in GM/TM, just go to any user's gifts won page and click on the button labelled "Provide API key", paste your API key into the prompt (this is cached hereafter), and then click on the new button labelled "Fetch Playing Info".
