This should give 7 months if you enable recurring when activating code.
Also I think in US you may get Discord Nitro code from xbox dashboard (console not PC), and redeem 3 month xbox game pass (pc or xbox). You can ask support to send them via email, but it takes 10 days and offer expires before that. (end of this month)
So this for 9 months for $3:
1) activation key one month of Xbox Game Pass for Xbox, enable recurring (2 months)
2) one month of Xbox Live Gold
3) one month of Xbox Game Pass for PC
4) three months of Xbox Game Pass Ultimate
5) redeem either discord nitro code, convert to 2 months of ultimate [you don't have time to wait for expiry]
Alternative tip: Some crap food in US (iirc, I don't live in US so I don't know specifics) comes with 7+7 days codes of gold+game pass, if you have access redeem tons of those befe ultimate conversions too if you have access. (converts to 5 days of ultimate, so better to do before if possible).

How does converting discord nitro to 2 months work? Can it be done in other regions than the US? Or will they not send me a code if I'm not in the US?

I've seen people saying they got support to send them the codes through email. But I didn't get so lucky, and they told me to wait up to three days for a follow up through email. It's been one day. If I don't get anything, I'll have to contact them again.

I'm not sure how this works. Every purchase I made was already set as a recurring billing, even the first one. All I could do was deactivate it. Or are you supposed to deactivate it and then activate it again before getting ultimate?

There was a promo running; when you redeem a code, it would offer you a free extra 30 days if you had a payment method and checked automatic billing option.
It worked with any code, including stuff like 7 day codes. It also worked with all the codes from Alienware.
Once you upgrade to Ultimate, this offer does not come up anymore. (except possibly with Ultimate codes, as I think madjoki is saying)

Here is what I did myself a couple of days ago to get 36 months of Game Pass Ultimate:
- Buy the 1-month Game Pass (Beta) for 1€
- Buy 16 1-month codes (I purchased mine on gamivo, check root777's post below for some advice on that)
- Disable automatic renewal
- Add code for 1 month and say yes to "automatic renewal", it will give you an extra month
- Disable automatic renewal
- Repeat steps 4-5 until you redeem all codes
- Buy the 3 months of ultimate pass for 1€
When you get the Ultimate Pass (which you should get last) you can convert 36 months of regular Game Pass at most. Int the end I got: 1 + (16 x 2) + 3 = 36 months, I'm good until November, 14th 2022...

Bought mine from Gamivo, but as root777 pointed out, you should be able to trade or buy them somewhere else.
I'm not very familiar with the Microsoft subscriptions so I don't really know if all "one month" coupons are the same, I just know where I got mine, that they worked, and how I did it (the steps I explained in my message). I'm just saying that you might want to check that you're buying/getting the correct "one month" coupons.

Does anyone know what happens if you get a few months of Ultimate and afterwards use a code for the Standard pass? (like those promotional codes that go with GPUs etc.)

Any way to use this without a US credit card or bank account? I have wallet on my Microsoft account, but it won't let me buy any of the subscriptions without a valid US card...
EDIT: I contacted xbox support, and they bought the 3 month ultimate pass for me using the wallet funds. I probably could've gotten them to go through a few more of the steps, but didn't want to push it. Got 5 months of Ultimate for about $6, which is nice. :)

If you do the 3 month Ultimate step today via Microsoft Rewards, you will also get 4500 points, which is almost enough for a $5 Amazon gift card.

No, it's because it's a trial for a recurring payment. You need to add a credit card, it will probably use your credit but you still need to input a credit card so you can forget about unsubscribing and Microsoft getting money

Go here and buy one month of Xbox Live Gold for $1.
Then, go here and buy one month of Xbox Game Pass for $1.
Finally, go here and buy three months of Xbox Game Pass Ultimate for $1.
In the end, everything will be converted to Ultimate and you'll end up with 5 months total. This is the best deal I found for Ultimate (not counting region-exclusive offers such as the junk food stuff).
