In the summer of 2019, I graduated from (Swedish) high school. The plan was to take a year off and work for a while before pursuing higher education starting fall of 2020. So, how did that work out? Not well at all. It seems that there are no jobs for a recently graduated natural science student with no clear job experience to get. Even goddamn McDonald's didn't respond to my application, there was always someone with more qualifications applying.

So, from June to now, I have been at home doing nothing. I have 100%-ed so many games in this time because there was nothing else to do. I like to go to the gym, but in October I got hit with some kind of back injury which destroyed my ability to exercise, and, for a month or so, I couldn't even sit in a chair! So, I basically got forced into lying in my bed for a few months and now that I should (and need) exercise, I have no energy to get out of bed and do so. (Please, someone just force me to go to the gym!)

Now for the happier part.
A week or so ago I got accepted for an internship at my local library/event hall. I worked there before one summer, and I also basically grew up in that building so going back there to organize some books and concerts will be really nice. It'll give me something to do for a few months instead of lying in bed at home. But getting an internship isn't that hard. If I work from now to May/June, what the hell am I supposed to the summer before I'm off to university?

So I started looking for summer jobs. Hoped for more luck, even though before I had only failed. And two days ago, I got a call from a company. He said that they were basically finished with the interviews but they wanted to meet me this last second. Yesterday, I met up with him for a job interview. And today, he called me to say that I got the job!!!!!! The very first job interview that I passed!!!!
And it's a damn fun job. I will be a guide for the local Cold War fort/museum! I'm so excited! And this means that from now to August when university begins, I will finally have something to do! I just wanted to share because I'm so happy.

Very nice news. I tried and failed to get a first job during my first 3 years of college. I really relate to not having work experience. It's tough out there. But you did it before college even startedπŸ˜‚
Next hard part is getting experience in your career field. One advice from me is let everyone know you're looking for a job in that field πŸ˜‰
Build your network and join the IT club in college. Be an officer. Be a president. I did that and I was able to hear about a lot more job opportunities.

Sure will! I've heard that the companies start recruiting you before you've graduated for this degree though, but I'm not taking any chances.

The interviews I had before this one, I dressed nicely and kept things professional. By nicely, I mean more "normal" clothes that I basically don't use instead of my usual alternative style with lots of skulls and studs. The impression that they got was that I was that I was a bit introverted and afraid to express myself, which is why I failed. So this time I said screw that. My goal was to go there in my usual clothes and 1. to not appear nervous and 2. to make them laugh. I think I succeeded, considering I got a job where you need to be the opposite of introverted!

Exactly in my Accounting field is was exactly like that where they started looking at candidates in the first year of college! You seem to know what you're doing 😁. Of course I also did the IT club on the side to differentiate myself from the rest of the the Accounting majors. Standing out and being memorable is key. Great idea with the skulls and studs πŸ˜‚. Making them laugh is also absolutely perfect πŸ‘Œ.

Grats and good luck. I need to start looking again as I don't know if I'm going to like my new manager.

That's awesome, and congratulations! Sounds like a great thing to do with hopefully relatively low stress and allow you to physically rehab your back before you start up with university classes in August. And it's pretty good to spend time in a library too, I worked as a librarian before I finished high school, and I have always loved books. Even to this day, I still read until I fall asleep every single night. I practically am eating books in my sleep!

Any back or neck issues are very serious. Did you visit a doctor? It's really important to have a medical checkup by a specialist.

Anyway, hope you'll get better and thanks for the giveaway

Yes, I've gone to a physiotherapist the whole time. It's not incredibly serious, he thinks it's temporary and that everything will go back to normal given enough time (and exercise).

Thank you!

Good luck!! You can come to Sweden if things don't work out, I think mechanical engineers are in demand here. If you can take living in complete darkness 6 months a year, that is.

I would like to add and talk about that with you if i don't get the job. May i?

Hmm I'm not actually too knowledgeable about how the situation is actually like, I just know that there are people who study mechanical engineering who get job opportunities easily. Not that I don't want to help you, but I'd think it would be better to talk to someone who knows better. There's a subreddit about moving to Sweden, TillSverige, maybe it's worth checking out?

Good work. I wouldn't mind getting a new job since my current one sucks. My last attempt, I lost out to two guys who were half an hour late to the interview and felt like I just wasted my time seeing best friends pat each other on the back the whole time.

That's awesome, congratulations!

I always tell people that getting a job right now is a bit like winning a game on SG, you just have to keep trying and trying until you get lucky. I'm glad you stuck with it and it worked out!

Also, do you know what caused your back injury? That sounds really bad. Hope it was an isolated thing, and you can get back to feeling healthy.

No clue what happened. I started feeling a small pain in my leg when tying my shoelaces, to begin with. Then a week or so later, it started to hurt when I was sitting normally and I had to stand up and walk a bit sometimes when sitting, and pretty much the day after that all hell broke loose and I couldn't do anything except lie down because it hurt. The theory is that something happened at the gym, and personally I'm blaming kettlebell swings for that. :/

I'm having similar symptoms to sciatica, but my physiotherapist doesn't believe that's the case (symptoms are too mild).
