Take this bump!
I'm also among the "over-a-decade" fraction, but I had some great help along the way and I guess that's why I'm here.
Cheers, Luv, there's always some cavalry out there. :)

[- Arcane Raise - 3 copies](https://www.steamgifts.com/giveaway/hwbng/arcane-raise) Lv6+ | Superfabs | Ends Jan 29th
Thanks goes to this comment from CoOKkii above for my whimsical giveaway. I haven't been back in quite a while!
I did not know if I should add a secondary - - for three copies, since - Arcane Raise - is kinda shaped with the dashes. Anyway, 3 copies, and as usual, random blarble:
I will advocate strongly for mental health resources. I am very passionate on this issue after so many misdiagnosed my own brain stuff, and then I ended up taking things my body did not necessarily need. Probably messed me up as a youngster, and caused more harm than good over time.
A better educated system would identify my problems in a more concise manner. Without a brain, everything is all wrong. Think of it like a dirty lens of a camera. Everything in the world through that lens will come out dirty. We need to clean these lenses....
Random crud, hope it makes sense to somebody.

I still think the best way to combat depression is to do your best not to think negative and instead occupy yourself and your mind with positive things. Do productive things, work, hang out with friends, play games or indulge yourself in other hobbies you love. Doing something productive and accomplishing things in life can really lift persons mood, albeit I am well aware how difficult it can be to force yourself into doing things like that when you feel down and don't have much willpower to do anything. But once you get rolling it gets easier and easier and you keep feeling better and better.

I like your plan for defeating depression in its tracks! It's good to have something in mind before, since it is tough to do a lot of anything in the midst of the nasty stuff once it's had a chance to build up... The productivity... when I was healthy enough, exercise was huge for me. Also making yourself do something small, and just taking that first little step on something you enjoy can get it going, like an appetizer to a meal sometimes when I am not hungry works for instance.
Endorphines(sp?) as a result of the exercise kept a lot of my bad symptoms at bay for a while, and would most of the time lift my mood. If I had bad depression and let it go to long, ain't happening. No action plans are going to happen easily. Like a lot of things, early attack is the best attack strategy before it gets out of control and causes further issues. Thanks from me for these tips. I can always use a refresher.

π Active giveaways π
If you want to share giveaways, please use this template:
copy everything inside the ` (even the opening/closing `grave accents`), edit and and paste it in your reply
Please use the format provided above! It's easier for me to copy-paste multiple giveaways in this thread. Remember, yours aren't the only links I have to put here.
It will take me a few days to update the list. To avoid having your giveaway not "showcased" set its duration to more than 5 days (unless you don't care, it's up to you).

I've dealt with depression for over a decade, plus PTSD and some health complications which also make things even worse than what they are. But at least I had people that helped me. Friends, family, and even strangers from support groups that made things easier.
You should NEVER think you are alone, because there's always someone willing to help if you look around you. This might sound clichΓ© but it's real, there are terrible people but there are also extremely kind ones. π
Also, if you can and you feel strong enough, please lend a hand to others in need. I've done this for years when I am confident enough that I can take on other people's problems without affecting my health to the point of getting me down.
Remember it's important to help others, but also take care of yourself.
Diagnosed depression isn't a joke (as in diagnosed by a professional and not by the patient, don't confuse it with other symptoms!). It's a serious condition and it shouldn't be taken lightly because it's not a physical illness. Just like cancer ends up with death, depression will escalate to suicide or cripple you in many ways.
Everyone feels "down" once in a while, but for some people it's a daily pattern of depression. The good news is that it is treatable.
Usually through therapy, medication, or a combination of the two. Antidepressant medication, despite some side effects, can help lift a person from the depths of depression within weeks of starting medication therapy.
If one medication doesn't work for you or the side effects are too much for you to live with, keep in mind that there are many others your doctor could give you to try.
Make sure your doctor knows about any other meds you are taking and always ask questions about your medication therapy, if needed.
Btw, DON'T get self-diagnosed, it's a terrible idea. You might be sad or during a grieving period, so always check with a doctor.
Besides, I don't know about other countries but over here antidepressants are only available if you have a medical prescription, so you will only be left with a possibly wrong diagnostic and no way to deal with it.
