However my first game was Half life 2 retail copy free with my AMD new computer.

I have never bought a Steam game. I only ever buy Retail games, cuz they come for half the price where I live. The rest of the Steam games I have acquired by selling my TF2 items.
But if you count a non-Steam bought Steam game, then I'll say my Counter Strike Anthology (which I got for around 10$ from my local shop at the time) in 2005. It was friggin amazing.
