The cutoff date was 22nd april(and they disclosed this on 23rd -_-). So if you create a new account or had an empty one it might not work for you

Its like the same as google's storage space, you can get an app where you can use it like a cloud drive. Can also set it up so it allows access to your computer through your email account. This could be useful for getting files from your home computer to say your school/work computer. 25GB is a bit overkill for my personal needs, but im sure plenty of people will beable to use it with little trouble. I think I will use mine to backup important files.

They just upgraded SkyDrive, and made an application similar to Dropbox. It can synchronize your files throught your pc's and phones. That is the reason for reducing their limit to 7 gb. If you compare it to the free version of Dropbox (which is 2 gb), it is quite good.

In Dropbox, I haven't seen a size increasing offer except inviting people, which gives 250 mb for each invitation. Also, I think that way you can go up to 10 gb at most. But, checking that now, Dropbox apparently updated this, they now give 500 mb per invitation up to a 16 GB max.
I've been using Dropbox for a year without any problems and like it. Trying them both now. I think that for personal use, they're basically the same.

Better late than never. And the press release was 23rd April which is after they decided the 22nd April cutoff to prevent abuse.

Same here, tried to use it to back-up some files I don't need direct access to but the 100mb file limit didn't allow me to do much with it in the end.

I know you know this already but Microsoft has altered their skydrive usage terms. They only give 7GB free now. So if you have a Windows Live ID I suggest you login and apply for the free upgrade to 25GB.
Also with windows 8 having the app built in one would naturally be using this free service so why not grab your 25 GB without the need of paying for it in the future.
More Details Here
And Here
Note: You need to have an existing account with files before April 22 to be eligible for the upgrade.
Edit2: It seems you can upgrade without existing files too.
