also everyone who launched the game before it goes f2p receives a Legacy Pack with cosmetics and a free Season Pass for Season 1 (source)

Btw the Steam version will be delisted like Rocket League, existing players can play through Steam, new players only through Epic.

With over 20 million players across all platforms, I think it's safe to say this game isn't going anywhere anytime soon.

The "dead game" comments are even funnier now.

Thats interesting because the other day ,there was an error that showed 70% of the lobby in squad show was insertName_bot.

There was a big server error the other day where it kicked people offline and many couldn't get into the game. The bots could have been generated for the number of players that were already locked into match when they got DC'd. Worse case scenario is it could have been someone using a bot program that flew under the anticheat for a short time. Sending in a support ticket when that happened would have been a good idea. Did you send one in?

no, im pretty sure there are bots as they are necessary to help fill the lobby in all game modes

At the very beginning of the Free for all season, I believe I encounter a bot game for 5 games straight with only 5 player and only me and 3-5 bot hit the final while I won those 5 game straight.

They use same color skin and random name, also the bot have a pc icons on it (WHile steam user doesnt have an icon on their name while the console player has joystick as their icon)

Going back to last year, bots were added to the game, but they were only used if the player was new. Bots would be used in a new players first 10 games and the bots never reached the final round. How long have you been playing? If you are new this very well could have been what happened.

If a player on the EGS didn't register an email it would generate random things like a game name. It wouldn't surprise me if those players you saw with pc icons and same skins were EGS players who didn't register their email yet.

I'm day one player on steam and mostly play on daily bases for daily mission as well.

My assumption is, during the first 5 hours of free for all season, they add some bot to fill up some space on each game. I remember 6 hours after the seasons, there's an update and the appearance of bot is near 0 and the PC icon on name is removed.

Damn, I'm hooked on the game, already got 30hrs in it. I'll have to tone it down significantly, my backlog is calling. :)

That's funny. I just got done reading a post from someone worried that they run out of reasons to play a game after 1000 hours. If a games gives you 50-100 hours of a fun and entertainment. Then it did it's job. Stop looking for reasons to keep going if you get board at 1000 hours. Start a new game or get outside for some air. Go touch grass my dude. ;P

Its psychological. Before Steam and others you had no idea how long you had played a game. People judge everything with numbers now...and so they're never happy.

Glad to see I'm not the only one. Never played the game and decided to give it a go once. Expecting to be done with it after 4 of 5 rounds. Well I'm hooked!!! Every time I think "ok 1 more round". And than another hour went by :)

heard that the player count is already collapsing. Not sure if Epic even publishes those stats

judging from the progression, this game will always get a gain whenever a new season drops. the numbers would not be dropping in any platform for the next couple of months. Simply because now is the time to play do challenges and unlock the season rewards.
on steam charts alone it had a +130.06% gain, with 59554 players, no doubt most people who bought it before being removed from the store were playing it.

the game is still on the top on steam count players with no change whatsoever in one week.
and... the funniest part is that count is only steam's statistics.

I think people should keep in mind that this game was extemely briefly very popular once before (for about 10 days; maybe 3 weeks).

Just like Rocket League it was given away for free to all PS+ subscribers on release day. Actually it was pretty obvious they were trying to create the next Rocket League and for a while all was good. But after a very short time player numbers started plummeting due to lack of variety and extremely simplistic gameplay. (that was before cheaters became a problem) Apparently it also took the devs way too long to add more new levels / minigames.

Now I'm not saying that's necessarily gonna happen again. Maybe this time the battlepass will be enough to keep people engaged but I wouldn't be surprised if it did.

Most games like this never see population numbers anywhere near this level, I can't think of any other games besides Fall Guys. A big credit to how well Fall Guys did was due to influencers playing the game on Twitch. The population took a rather big hit because of the mass amount of different cheat programs and cheaters that flooded the game and unfortunately there was no answer to stop it for a bit. While a lack of variety and simplistic gameplay did contribute to some of the numbers I'd say cheating was the main reason.

I think it's safe to say that the population number will decrease, like most online games. It's just not realistic to think that the game will keep these kind of numbers for long.

Success with steam but want to leave steam. That why i like exclusive than time exclusive

This situation is different than most other games that go on the EGS as a timed exclusive. Epic bought the development studio so it was just sort of natural that Epic would make the choice to remove it from sale on Steam. Why would Epic want to give Valve 33% of their sales when they've grown the EGS to where it now has over 500 million accounts? They simply wouldn't, there's no need to, especially since they don't agree with how much Valve's cut is. Like most publishers and developers if they had a choice to where their game would be sucessful without the use of Steam or another client/storefront they would take it.

Epic didn't take the game away from existing owners on Steam, they've just removed it from sale. People who own the game on Steam can still play it on Steam.

there might be 500 million accounts but how many spend money? and even then how many spend money in f2p games?

I don't know how many of those accounts spent money. The EGS made 840 million dollars last year through the store with 300 million of it through 3rd party titles. As far as f2p games with microtransactions go, they generate a ton of money.

well i'd like to see Steam's profits - i know the new thing with these are to do what the call a season pass and that is a way to get some extra income - i mean i am not against the store it's self and it is again maybe down to Steam not acting sooner to keep it as first come first serve forever - although many timed exclusives would maybe be forever exclusive so it would hurt either way

To make it impossible to remove a game (to be sold) from the store? What purpose would it serve, other than cutting back developer/publisher rights?

funny enough is that not what Epic is doing cutting back on their rights to sell it on Steam still?

Cutting back on who's rights? Epic purchased the studio, it's Epic's game. The developers work for them.

That announcement was from March of last year, at the time they posted that was the plan. They kept the game for sale on Steam for over a year and three months after that initial announcement was made. Like a lot of businesses things change. Relationships between parties change. It's not one person making these descisions it's normally a collective of people at the top which can sometimes include investors. A year and three months ago they didn't know the game was going to change business models from a buy to play to free to play either.
