I do have to say, one time my cd-rom literally exploded and I still have a scar on my leg but no one can believe that and I'm pretty sure if I took a pic of flying cd 'shrapnel' people would still call it fake :D

I was quite shocked when I got 90C temperature on my brand new i5 3570K. Apparently my Artic Freezer 7 was defect. Switching to the box cooler fixed the temp to 75C, now I am just saving money for something lil quieter.

Lol, my media PC (old core2 E6300) started having some issues recently and then started boot looping after being on for a few minutes. I went into BIOS and saw temps of 115°C. My first thought was "Oh, the thermal monitors have broke and the CPU is shutting down". Back in windows core temp was showing minus values so I thought I was right.

But I thought I would just check and the fan had about 1cm dust on it..... Didn't think it had been that log since built the machine so wasn't ready for cleaning, but obviously had lost track of time.

Don't see anything wrong with that temp, i get from 70 to 80 C while gaming, Idle = 38 C. normal usage 40 to 50 C

PS: Is a laptop

The highest my computer gets is 98C and at that point I find something else to do to let it cool back off to 60C or so.

Mine is currently 28C, been running most the day gaming - use Arctic Silver 5 between CPU and Liquid Cooling -> Back Heat Sink Plate. I don't even bother with overclocking, no need these days at the speed it already can run (maxed graphics on all latest games without lag), just like to keep it cool and a lot more quieter. It will alarm and set maximum fans if over 60C (safe shutdown at 75C), but never been above the 50C warning, even under extreme gaming usage! I consider above 60-80C to be damaging to your PC health.

My GPU is always 91°C ingame, not really an issue (for my card :p), most GTX470's have this 'problem". Once played an hour at 107°C with that card, still working fine ;p

CPU at 90°C is another story... that's pwetty bad... Apply new thermal paste and clean out your fan.

Guess i'm the only one not knowing how to check the temperature of a cpu.

1 decade ago
Permalink

The motherboard comes with temperature monitors which are controlled via the BIOS. You can also check under their upon booting, but during gaming / windows will need to install some application software to check. Some computer cases even have a hardware LED display on the front for temperature readings, plus fan controls - which is best.

Put some ice on your cpu

Laptops will do that because they're not designed for anything intensive (gaming, video encoding, etc.). Those tests with the components are done in isolation using equipment to test their limits safely and effectively, not with specific cheap laptop builds that have them in stores. If your desktop gets that hot, then you need to invest in an aftermarket cooler.
