How do you people find new avatar pictures?

Mine is a picture of my cat. Do you have a cat? Cat pictures are good. I'd go with a cat picture. Cats.

I took my pictures, if they have a background story, I like them more

There is no need to search. You just feel when you find it. It's such a lovelike stuff.

I used to, but people complained they couldn't find me on their friend list, so I had to change it back. -_-

Think of something/someone I like, then I google cool pics of it/them. Simple as that.
Also helps to have saved a ton of pictures over the years that you can sift through once in a while and see if you can find something really good.

I don't. I've had an explosion when I was a little shit who thought explosions were cool, then I began being obsessed with dragons (and I still am). Had the pic of a dragon sculpture made out of ice (with blue lighting) that people always confused with a horse. Then I switched to an artwork of a blue ice dragon, and then another artwork of another blue (ice) dragon. Haven't changed it since - I love it, plus it's sort of... my identity on the web. It wouldn't feel right to change it.

I actually made a new avatar myself a couple of months ago to replace my current one that I stole from somewhere, and then I forgot to use the new one.
I guess I could still swap it if I feel like it at some point.
Edit: screw it, I changed it now, if I don't like it I can go back to the old one.

I change my avatar at the same time as my steam profile.
December 1st will be on Christmas.

At one point I really like velociraptors, so I changed my pic to one. Then Christmas came around and I saw a post by someone who was "Christmasifying" pics, so yeah, velociraptor with a beard and Christmas hat. Also too lazy to change it.

I just pick things I like.

I have a little selection of squirrel-pics (think of it kind of like: what jbondguy got with dragons - I got with squirrels) and change them according to season/occasions (aka easter, Halloween, Christmas)

Oh yeah, I definitely changed my picture alright.
