You can not "really" delete games. You can always undelete them later on.

How?

You type deleted game's name in support form and there will be option to restore it on your account

Didn't know there was an option like that. Thank you!

Does that also work for games you deleted years ago?
Asked the support to delete some DLCs a few years ago and they said they'd permanently delete them... too lazy to check for myself <3 ;D

Probably depends on how long ago, not sure if it's been like that for a decade or longer.

I think so, I resumed a game deleted 2 years ago some weeks ago and it went greatly xD probably it can depend on the game or on how long ago anyways =)

By official statement at the time (as I recall it, anyway), you couldn't get reversals on support-deleted games, and that seems to have remained true since.

Specifically, the deletion reversal function should have been an addition that came along with user-controlled deletions. This difference appears to be due to the new deletion interface retaining activation associations with the account after a removal, while the impression of the old removal method was that it actually removed the association from the account entirely [which is presumably both why older deletions don't appear as options for re-addition within the new interface, and why the deletion process at the time stated that deletions couldn't be reversed].
As such, it should be that anyone who deleted a game earlier has actually permanently deleted the games they got removed.

Likewise, that appears to be official Support policy even now; Some time back (but after the switch to manual deletions and addition of the refund system) they accidentally removed the wrong game on my account after a refund request, and they said they couldn't do anything because policy prohibits them from replacing any game removed through the actions of the support team.
..Of course, being that it's Steam support and they've mis-stated official policies [at least, in conflict to how they're written in the FAQ] before, there's no telling if that's actually accurate or not. Nevermind the fact that it's Steam Support, so as always it's hard to tell if they were actually speaking coherently or just lucked out when putting random words together. :S

But yeah, probably should assume such games were in fact permanently deleted, if for no other reason than that you'd have to go through core support for a readd, and the liklihood of getting a sensical response out of that effort should be close to or equal to zero. :P

As far as anything removed through the new system, I haven't heard of any sort of limitation in regards to deletion reversals, at least as far as time span goes. Not sure whether or not all license types can be reversed after removal, though, as I seem to recall hearing that some free licenses would get removed permanently.

It used to be that you'd have to remove overlapping content in the order it was added, but I think recently I removed some overlapping subs and was able to pull both up through the interface; So if you've got regional versions of a game, it's theoretically easy to switch between their licenses, now.

So did you ever get the game they deleted by mistake back?

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

No. Though, since they confused it as part of a refund request, I did end up getting a refund, so technically I didn't lose anything.

That said, if it's the game that I recall it was [That being one of the Transformers games], it actually got removed from Steam before I could get it at comparable discount again [in fact, checking against ITAD, it seems that it didn't ever go on sale again at all, for that year in-between when I first got it and its removal]. So, not an ideal situation, regardless of the fact that I didn't lose any money on it. :P

Oh wow, that's a pretty bad situation and pretty bad customer service too, you think they could have just given you the game as a gift but I guess that would have been to much to expect from their support... Hopefully it was an isolated incident!

but I guess that would have been to much to expect from their support

First rule of Steam Support: Whatever your expectations may be, you should lower them. 🙄

you think they could have just given you the game as a gift

Well, in fairness, they did say they couldn't do anything in regards to the refund due to their policy of not being able to assign games to accounts, so that'd apply just as much to them being able to gift anything to me.

Presumably, they need publisher permission prior to any game assignment and, for whatever reason, the way they have it set up includes refund reversals and the like within that paradigm*. One'd also assume that they don't bother asking for publisher permission outside of events, as well.

* This despite the fact that you're not actually assigning a new copy of the game in that circumstance, just returning an already purchased one. Of course, if they have it set up to permanently deassign content from the account, the underlying mechanics may not reflect that fact, thus explaining why it'd be treated as a new copy. Which of course would clarify that the reason they can't properly resolve such matters is completely due just to their own unwillingness to put in the effort needed to change the underlying mechanics..

Of course, it's not like other storefronts don't have similar considerations towards activations, but they'll usually still provide some sort of recompense, up to providing the game out-of-pocket, as you suggested. So regardless of how their policies can provide reasons for it, Valve's approach does seem to be less appreciable than that of other storefronts.

Comparatively, GOG, Humble, and Amazon have all been excellent in that regard [as far as either smoothly resolving a matter and/or offering additional recompense goes], across quite a few experiences with each one of them.

He was refunded, so no foul there. The fact he didn't bother to get it resolved to his liking may or may not be his own fault.
As someone who works in a shop that also does retail, we don't have an obligation to refund MORE than the purchased price (whether on sale, or not), and I know sale items that we might get from suppliers are often limited time or end of line. It's a similar sort of thing in this situation. His bullshit about "returning" only applies for deleted games (and to be fair, Steam have a clause that you ARE removing said game permanently, so they don't have to facilitate re-adding, this has nothing to do with refunds), not for repurchased games. I don't see how he can compare that to the likes of GOG (who are DRM-free anyway), Humble (where you're purchasing a key off them, not buying a sub directly from Steam), and Amazon (umm, what?!)
At the end of the day, we can speculate all we want about sooth's situation, but don't take his comments too seriously - I mean, the guy doesn't know how to structure a joke, so how do we know when he's actually being serious?

Yes to be fair you're right I don't really know the situation I just thought it was kind of crazy they could delete a game by mistake and have no way of giving it back, if it's not their mistake then it's a whole different situation.

Toxic experiences?

More like me becoming a toxic experience,i started to get really angry for the smallest mistakes i made and played to get ''better'',I only had fun when the match was going my way so pretty rarely.I tried to play siege, but then I decided that in my already bad state of mind competitive games will just make everything worse,so i stopped playing them which so far has been good. Now if i play cs is just a few minutes of DM.

I see. Well i play mostly one match in comp per time i play. I think some people are very toxic so i disable mic and rarely read the team chat. Works excellent to play without these things in my opinion.

Tropico 4 and insurgency, yes. (I have aviary attorney, but haven't played it. ) I also don't normally get on with city building games, where you need to micromanage to succeed, but tropico was quite kind in that regard and I could just focus on building a functional society.
And insurgency is one of my favourite shooters, the competitive modes are one of the more mature online experiences I've had and the co-op mode with a bunch of other people is lots of fun. I found it such a refreshing break from being shouted at by kids in other popular shooters.

Yeah if you're doing badly they will rag on you for losing, and if you are doing too well they are angry for you for cheating. I think insurgency is different because it is more strategic in how you need to play. You can start off playing the excellent co-op modes and get used to the rather lethal guns and then move to pvp, but even just playing the co-op is fun and rewarding itself. I don't play multiplayer games generally, and still prefer a good single player game, but not all online shooters are filled with aggressive try-hards.

Yes more than 20-30 games. Most of them were shitty asset-flip games that were given out for free. I added them when I was new to steam and not much of the game to play.

No... hiding games from library is good enough for me. Permanently removing only leads to issues, like here on Steamgifts.

It only leads to issues if it's a game you won from here, otherwise Steamgifts doesn't care/won't even notice

Yeah, aside from "unactivated wins" I also thought about them re-appearing (since no longer 'in library) for re-entering and all that. Better just to hide them.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

Ah yes, that's also true I guess, though it would be very weird of someone to hide/remove a game and then join a giveaway for the same game but you never know.
I also hide all games here that I own so I would never see them again anyway, just to make it easier for myself ^^

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

Same... but sadly hiding doesn't really work on things like trains. And with "Steam is learning"/"Profile features disabled" being a thing enough reason to be on guard for games owned without removing any myself.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

I hardly own any of those games but yes that feature doesn't make it any easier here indeed, I mean I am not complaining about the feature but that the API doesn't see it does make it harder sometimes, like on this website.
I use ESGST and have it on that if I hid a game I can;t join it so in trains I see it but I won't be able to join so I never join a game by mistake, it's very nice to have to avoid mistakes like that ^^

Almost an year ago I've deleted 300+ "games" from my accout, but those were asset-flip and little-to-no-effort trash. I also want to delete quite a few more, but I can't since I won them on SG back when it was my first year on this site
