Dark Souls: Prepare to Die Edition.
Get that and get DSFix mod to fix some graphics issues and stuff. Coupled up with a XBox360 controller or similar and you have a PC game similar to Monster Hunter. Only bad thing I personally don't like is the way Dark Souls handles multiplayer. It's not like Monster Hunter where you can party up with a few friends.
Edit: Oh, and it doesn't have a crafting system. :(

Actually you can party up if you want to, all you need to do is have your friends lay down their soul signs in places that other players probably wouldn't be looking, then just wait for them to appear in your game.
It's a lot of fun to co-op it with a friend or two.

Well, there was a BRAZEN prototype from the humble fortnight bundle that has a similar feel from Monster Hunter. There's also a ripoff version called Hunter Blade. Sadly the Monster Hunter style in the US is very limited to the consoles.
Edit: oh, Exzo is right, Hunte Blade is gone. well like everyone else has stated. Dark Souls is a great alternative.

there is a game called hunter blade, It's a chinese ripoff of MH. I didn't like it very much. google it for some screenshot

I've heard about Hunter Blade before. It was a cheesy ripoff of the Monster Hunter series but, as ExzoSSG said, got shutdown a while ago. Brazen seems cool and all but when will it be out? Couldn't get anything but a short developper's commentary. Dark Souls looks very cool. Maybe not be as much like MH as I wanted it to be but definetly looks worth checking out. Any other recommendations? Thank you very much.

Hi, I have always been a big fan of the Monster Hunter franchise. I have played the first and the second one for the PS2 (offline and online). What feels strange about this is that there isn't any game like it for the PC. I mean, there's only one version of the franchise for the PC (online) but it's Japanese only. I tried to search for something similar but only got other titles that were nothing as close to Monster Hunter. Maybe you guys can help me. I strongly recommend everyone to try Monster Hunter. It's an amazing RPG like game in which you gather all sorts of items (carving monsters, mining, fishing, digging, ...) to build your armor, weapons, potions, etc, and makes you feel awesome when you finally get that set of armor you were looking for.
