Just got this message from a ALLYOUPLAY site newsletter.

Does anyone knows / read anything about this? (and the reason why)

Probably because EA is retiring Origin

Well they better fix that broken EA app then because it does not show you own DLC you own. If I want to install or play any of my Battlefield DLC then I must use Origin, not that thing. It says I'd have to pay again.

Hopefully it's a bethesda situation, and everything transfers over to Steam. That'd be doooope

RIP Origin's store price glitches.

Well, it's not like new one is improvement, reason many made the switch to new one was to take advantage of price glitch ($3 Biomutant preorder).

They just worked on their EA Desktop / Play app with xbox live integration. I think its just being depreciated for EA Desktop...

I think that would be terrible for the market as a whole. Since when has concentrating too much power in the hands of a single company over any given market benefited customers in the long run? Valve have already been abusing their position as market leader, they need competition to be kept in check.

Valve have already been abusing their position as market leader

Can you give some examples?

VAC bans that can't be appealed come to mind.
Game censorship in Germany as well. Wouldn't be nearly as enforceable if games were sold by independent shops, as the Internet used to be barely 10 years ago.

Beyond what DingDong2 said we could take the example of how Valve strongarmed CDPR with Thronebreaker and its Gwent integration, forcing the two to not be linked if the game was to be sold on Steam. And then we can also use simple things like how long it takes for valve to fix even somewhat serious bugs, knowing that leaving bugs unfixed for years won't have a big impact on their bottom line as there's not really anywhere else for people to go (they could easily afford to hire a few more developers who could work on squashing bugs, but they don't).

Are they moving to a subscription only model?
Then again I read that Prime Gaming had a deal with Origin and were going to give away Origin keys until June...

They both can work at the same time - I don't think Prime Gaming counts as an official key store, and they offer only a selected few games there, for a limited time.

I'm pretty sure it doesn't count as a key store yes but while they are distributing them, at least it means the key redeeming system is still working one way or another.
However that's indeed not a long term prospect since the keys offered in June will only be redeemable in June so after that who knows what will happen to the EA keys?

EA KEYS
THEY DISAPPEAR

Their new launcher - EA Desktop / EA Play App - is technically still in Beta, but it seems to be all but finished. Strong guess is that Origin will be retired and they will move forward only with the EA Play App.
If you start Origin, there is a big window to download and install the new App. If you do this, you will find all your Origin games available within the new App.

So, better to start downloading and installing the new EA Play App rather sooner than later, I guess.

Heh EA Play? Wow how original. I'm almost surprised they didn't go with EA+ or EAflix.

OMG~~ The "EAappinstaller.exe" for the new launcher always gets error message when installing it on my PC since last year.

finished? the darn thing doesn't even have achievements, or even all the Origin games. They barely touched it at all sadly.

Maybe they will abandon activation key method of redeeming games ?
to redeem a game we will have to link accounts: like linking Steam to Origin account to activate EA game purchased from Steam .. or how we link amazon prime gaming to EA account to redeem all those in-game loot they give on prime gaming

Just guessing here

This is my guess also link your account to the website you are buying from and it will redeem that way.

So I own EA games on steam and their starting looks like:
1) starting game on steam to let it crash
2) crashed game starts origin on background
3) game starts on steam again
Does that mean origin will also crash and will start some another launcher? 🤔

I secretly wish, they could give an choice if i want move to EA new app, or simply transfer my games no steam.

EA App Launcher is 10 times worse than Origin, it doesnt even have Offline Mode, not to mention how much content it is missing from Games to DLCs. I cant believe that I am saying this, I would rather have Origin.

Unless I'm seeing something wrong here, this is not an issue of migrating from Origin -> EA Play (or whatever it's called).

It's an issue or not being able to buy EA games anywhere else but on EA store (and Steam, since they're recently rekindled their relation? :))
