While the issue is very much real, the cause is still debated.
Gamers Nexus made a video on this same issue, and their findings differ from Igor's somewhat. So it is still not exactly confirmed.
Here is the Gamers Nexus video on the issue. They test some of the theories, take apart the adapters, and measure everything using thermocouples and FLIR cameras.
