Is Mafia II like GTA?

You should just play Saint's Row 3/4... try those games out. Tell me what you think. I thought they were fun.

Don't get Mafia 2. It's a great game but it's very rarely compared to GTA since Mafia is kind of for older persons game or ones that like History.

"Kind of" should have been a poll option. Mafia 2 is more linear. That's the first thing that comes to mind.

Mafia 2 is the emptiest open world game I've ever played. It has a huge map but apart from the main missions there's nothing to do. So, it's nothing like GTA. It also has a bad/predictable story, unlikable characters and bad gameplay. It's just an over-rated piece of sh.t.

In Mafia II you can unlock covers of the old playboy magazine uncensored.
As people say, Mafia II is pretty much linear but the storyline is beautiful and gets you into it. I played over 20 hours without any DLC.

Try Saints Row if you like GTA.

In GTA you're a brat that just takes things.
In Mafia you're an Itallian with class...that then takes things.

No, it's not. It's superficially similar in that you run around in a theoretically-open map and can steal cars, but the focus in entirely on story, with much more shooting and much less freedom -- there is absolutely nothing to do in its open world except follow the plot, and it never gives you any real "freeform" time between missions. It's a good game, but if you go into it expecting GTA you will be disappointed.
