They're going to run a community beta test starting on the 13th: https://twitter.com/SNKPofficial/status/1666626099613421568

I'm super confused about this. Why does a 2 year old game need to run beta tests?

Apparently they're going to do a netcode rollback, so I'm guessing it's meant for that.

That's right! They're also doing some character rebalancing.

How long does this sale last? For some reason I can't find the green countdown thingy in any of the usual places on the storepage.

Til 21st June.

I'm just assuming though, since that's when the individual DLC characters sale ends.

Thanks :)
Didn't think of checking the DLC themselves, just the main game page and the bundle/pack page since there's where I usually find it. Now I know I have time to decide if I'm gonna buy it, no need to rush.

Rules for bundles are different from regular sales, I think it could last forever but will likely expire on 21st june like Garlboh said.

On https://steamdb.info/sales/ we can see some editors are exploiting the bundle specific rules to overcome the -90% barrier.

Here's an example : https://store.steampowered.com/app/673450/Time_Lock_VR_1/?curator_clanid=4777282

Not for me I guess, if I could buy just the base game, maybe, but I could care less for it's 12 dlc's or whatever, however they seem to be mandatory to play the game.

From what I'm observing, you don't really buy a game, what you buy is the map, and then you buy characters to use them on the map. So if you were able to just buy the game standalone, you couldn't even play it because it has no characters, they're all separated from the game.

It's like buying NFS but there's no cars, you have to buy each car individually.

I might be wrong though, correct me if I am, all steam editions seem to include a certain amount of characters.

Also, this doesn't compare to Guilty Gear, which I already own, so I guess another reason to pass.

The base game has 16 characters, which is a pretty amount for a fighting game, and for some reason they disabled the base game-only purchase, but with 90% off the complete version totally worth it. Also, this game is very niche and has nothing to do with Guilty Gear.

Dang, in that case I hope they offer the base game eventually again. 90% to me doesn't mean insta buy for me.

It's still a 2 year old game, priced at $12 at 90% off. They're estimating it's real price to be around $120. That's my turnoff, which makes it not worth it to me.

To say it has nothing to do with Guilty Gear is interesting. I'm not comparing a farming simulator to a 2d fighter, they're both 2D fighters. I just explained how in my scenario, there's no reason to go for this, because I already own a better game that I got for cheaper. I could've said Mortal Kombat.. I bought Mortal Kombat X and 11 together for the price of this 2 weeks ago, but that deal is gone now.

I appreciate you sharing however since it helped the people above and probably many others.

Thanks for the heads up and for the tips, I finally bought the Kiwami Pack, I think it's really worth it for the price (and the small difference from the Steam Edition or Deluxe Pack).

You could get this if you just want the base game, it's a few cents cheaper and includes the base game and a few DLC.

I thought about it, 4 dlc's isn't terrible. I just don't like that business model. A lot of the games I buy, if they have dlc that is worth over the game price, I generally skip on it if I can. I might, undecided about it. Thanks.

They never had the base game on its own for sale on Steam, ever.

When they released the game on Steam, they sold the base game and Season Pack 1 together in a bundle, as "Steam Edition", which is this: https://store.steampowered.com/bundle/21032/SAMURAI_SHODOWN_STEAM_EDITION/ - for $50 USD (normal retail price was $73.50 according to SteamDB.)

The first season pass characters were originally $20 on console, but they made them free for PC. The base game is $60 on PS4, with no characters, and it's priced at $50 on Steam, with four bonus characters. So you're not paying for things "you don't need", they're bundled with the game at no additional cost, and cheaper than consoles. It's just priced and bundled strangely.

They also had four more characters in Season Pass 2, and four more in Season Pass 3. Both were also released as bundles with the main game (as Kiwami and Deluxe Packs.)

I remember having a pretty good time with Samurai Shodown Sen many years ago, and that one had horrible reviews. This one has really good reviews, so it is tempting 🤔

I dont know what to do anymore. If I buy a game, it gets dirty cheap after a few years, if I dont, it gets removed :(

I feel you man! You normally have to decide if you'll get a game in 2-3 years. Whatever lasts longer than that either remains or it gets taken down. Games with license like Marvel will always be risky and possibly be taken down a lot sooner than people expect. e.g. Marvel's Avengers or Midnight Suns might be taken down at some point due to licensing.

They won't be selling the game anymore, even if SP/MP is still available, the game is effectively dead after that date.

They are also working on implementing rollback netcode. A MUST for fighitng games after 2020; I dont own the game and either can afford it, but whoever who is on the fence about picking it up, seems EXTREMELLY worth it. My library is already stacked with MK11, Injustice2 and GrandBlue Fantasy Versus for me to try out to even find time for Samurai Showdown. But as a fighitng game enjoyer, this is a great pick.
