as we all know the won rule is that the won game should be activate on our own steam account. But it doesn't ask to keep it in our library.
Now whether we have active.the game is judged by our current library.
this makes me easy to be banned by the website for i may remove games on my steam.
As the rule really have this bug ,i have thought two way to deal with it.

  1. to revise the rules to activate the won game and keep it in your library
2.change the way to judge whether you have activate it in your own steam
(1). judge it until it appearred in the library, then never judge it again (still not allow to join in the same games)
(2). make a historic library date about the library, which combine new games and removed ones

If you no longer have the game its not activated on your account. Dont remove the game, problem solved.

First one was asking a question what happens if they do it. This one is supposed to be a suggestion to mods so basically we mere users shouldn't really comment on it but from my experience that never works.

Well, I have to give them some props for including the option to "revise the rules to activate the won game and keep it in your library" in their suggestion to make the site more intuitive. I guess that's worth something ;)

Just don't remove the games. If you've already removed them, you can get them back with the "why isn't this in my library?" option (wording not exact)

Its not a bug, a glitch or an inconsistency. Its a rule and probably the most important one on the entire site. You have an obligation to keep something that was given to you. Without that rule being here, the entire spirit and purpose of this site and community would be lost.

Steamgifts wasn't meant to be used to farm cards for steam wallet funds on other people's generosity. That's honestly what it seems you're trying to accomplish between this and your other thread on the topic. And that's only a step above using this place as a cache to farm codes to sell on G2A.

Its not only an important rule, its simply plain courtesy, too. Another user, an actual human being on the other end of your giveaway win is being generous and giving something away. It could be something really costly for them, bundle extras or total trash -- and honestly as far as the principle goes, it doesn't even matter which it is.

Giveaways are not forced on you. Every time you enter a giveaway you're volunteering to participate. You're saying "I want this!". And when the dice of RNG land in your favor and you win and everyone else loses out ...its just plain rude to take that gift from the giveaway creator and the opportunity from everyone else who entered, and then unceremoniously throw it in the trash.

The best suggestion is to only enter games you'll be happy to win and have some desire to play or at least check out and give a fair chance to.

A bug is simply a slang for error and applies to software. It does also make things more clear of what kind of error so I get the use of bug as it defines the nature of the error. As error can simply mean a spelling mistake vs bad code that gives out a bad response. So a bug implies an error within the program itself vs a spelling error or using the wrong font.

In the end, both mean the same thing but used in a different context.I suspect the language barrier of the OP for the out of context use of the word and also not fully understanding the meaning of "activated vs just "activating it"

So you really relish the win so much you will enter any GA to win any game regardless of how much you may like it.This rule should never be changed and maybe try and be more selective of what you want to win.You know like trying to win something you really want or like and not just enter for a W.If you don't want to risk having a game in your account you don't like why enter for games you're not sure you will like?Seems kind of counterproductive.

Won gifts should be activated to the Steam account used during registration, and they should not be regifted, traded, or sold.

The only bug I see is your understanding the term "activated" as if you don't need to keep it on your account there would be no point in requiring it to be activated in the first place. This rule is put in place for a reason and that is to make sure people don't re-sell them or gift them to others as it's meant to go to the actual winner. These are the rule and if you don't like them don't enter anymore GA's moving forward.

Granted people will still break these rules but if they were not in place then people could just re-sell/trade games and ect unlimited times with no recourse and hence the site would die as nobody wants to GA unused keys so others can profit they want them to go to someone who may want the game.

Or maybe. Just maybe. Lets stick to already discussed stuff about how this is not a glitch. bug or whatever.
And I will repeate myself - You are asking for an elaborate loop hole in the system so you could delete a game you deliberately entered for in a giveaway.

This is that. Not "reporting a bug"..

Also known as "I'll join a giveaway, get the game you spent your money on and won't even bother keeping it on my account, because fuck you, that's why".

Because hiding the game in the library is not enough.

Rules are not wrong, SG requires you to redeem the gift/key on your account, by removing it afterwards you didn't activate it in the first place, regardless how much you think otherwise. For the same reason you can't do your homework and throw it to the trash.

But I care what you do with my gift. If I'm making giveaway on SG then I expect from my winners to follow SG rules, and one of SG rules says that you need to activate the gift on your account.

That is fine and still applies to everyone nobody is forcing anyone to keep said wins but the rules are in place for a reason. You can choose to follow them or not but don't ask people to bend them just because you won stuff you did not want. You should have never entered if it bothers you that much to have games on your account you don't like or want.

It's like re-gifting you can do it but don't tell the person when they discover that it's no big deal because you don't care if they do the same thing just because you're okay with it does not imply others should be.

To be honest, it can be late regret as well. I have three wins I wish I could get rid of.
One was a game that gave me physical sickness and nausea.
One turned out to be an unfinished mobile port that is now sitting in forever beta status as the dev just decided to give up.
One had a cute story but literally everything else (including every "game" aspect like level design, controls, balance) was horrible to the point I got permanently stuck in it and did not want to start over (since the save system only worked when it wanted to).

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

I don't consider win regret as something you absolutely must get rid of. Sure, game could not be as perfect as you initially imagined, it's happening all the time and it's a normal thing to do, but that still kinda doesn't give you a privilege to delete the game permanently just like that, since you didn't buy it yourself. I can totally see buying unused copy of that game and providing giveaway creator back with it, so he can reroll or delete it and then it'd be your sole decision what to do with the game that is fully yours now :3.

Comment has been collapsed.

I have thought about that, actually. Eventually I just pushed through the first two, because they were group giveaways for a group that does not even exist any more. (I think. Since I cannot see the giveaways now, i cannot check the exact groups.) The third was a multi-copy dev drop and it has been so long ago that the gifter is rarely seen on SG any more. So, I am stuck with them. Well, never intended to have 100% library completion, so I guess at least that sealed it anyway.

Move the installation folder of the game out of Program Files—out of the C:\ drive, if possible. It is a Visual Basic script file and Windows really likes to require maximum permission level to even touch them, but your games use that for their speech engine it seems. (I guess VNs or point 'n' clicks.)

This is an NTFS issue, so would happen even on XP.
At any rate, uninstall the game then and reinstall it on the new folder. Which is hopefully not in C:\Users. :) In general, installing games in the C:\ drive is counter-productive though, unless it is a relatively sturdy SSD.

Well then, time to start going down on another path. Start a command prompt in administrator mode and use this command:

netsh winsock reset

You will need a PC reboot after this and don't be alarmed if you cannot connect to the internet for a minute or so after that.

I just don't get why games should be removed from the library.

1) Some people actually look up if winners play their wins. For those it would be like a hit in the face. It's like you got a gift from someone for christmas and throw it into the trash bin right in front of the person's eyes.
2) There's no need to do so. You can hide it from your library and dropped booster packs even could be sold
