Source = most overrated engine

Which Source do you mean exactly? The modern version differs greately from the earlier versions

To sum up : this thread is overrated.

Source is pretty good IMHO, runs on such a wide variety of platforms and still looks pretty good when you crank it up.

Other than Valve, I don't usually see people singing Source's praises outside of it's availability and usefulness for mods. So... no.
Also, something's wrong with your computer if you're having to End Process it, unless you're still on Windows 95.

It looks like your PC is shitty. And source has some great mods (Garry's Mod, Black Mesa) and thats why it is so good because it is very mod-friendly and the engine is some Years old (8 years since HL2) thats why it hasn't got Battlefield 3 graphics.

It sounds like your PC is what is buggy. Source had some issues back in the day but since 2006-2007 it's been rock solid. It scales extremely well with hardware (probably better than any other engine I've seen), doesn't crash, and does everything it needs to do. If you want to talk about bad gaming engines, try Gamebryo. It's super buggy, it hardly scales with hardware at all, and it's way too top-heavy. Fallout 3 is still a mess because of Gamebryo and such an awesome game really deserves a better engine than that.

Saying it's overrated would imply that anyone has claimed it's a great engine or something. Perhaps when HL2 came out it was said to be impressive, but that was in 2004 and you'd have to prove that anyone has said anything like that recently for me to believe it.

I see more crappy (paid) games on Unreal Engine than Source.

Source is the only engine I've run without any fps drop, even heavy smoke won't drop my fps.

I'd say Source is my favorite engine because it's beautiful, in my opinion, while still being easily run on older PCs. Sure, newer engines might look better, but hell, I can't run them at top settings so they end up looking like shit anyway, while I can run any Source game on top settings and it looks great.

As for it being buggy, honestly, I very rarely run into bugs, and when I do it's when I'm tooling around in Gmod normally. Now, for a buggy engine, I'd look at Bethesda's engine. I mean, I love their games, but holy crap.

The biggest con is limited size of maps.

Id tech 3 is the most overrated engine.

Sure the Source engine is old and does not have all the new technology of the most recent engines out there (UE4 for example); but I think it's very solid and stable and that's why its still in use today, here is hoping Valve is working on Source 2 to be released along HL3 (which is going to coincide with the Halley's Comet return...)

I love Source.

Its old and outdated but it has very modular and its upgraded regularly.Imo right now Unreal , Havok and whatever UMVC uses are the best engines out there for every genre other than strategy games.I'm looking forward to Source 2 with a lot of new improvment and support for every technology out there.
